[00:00:20]Northern Michigan, it is a great time to be outside. Uh, it's finally warming up a little bit. You know, the trees are budding, the birds are chirping. It's just absolutely stunning, and I'm excited. So, I'm going to get out there, get back out to that same spot I was in the last couple weeks. It just keeps producing.

[00:00:39]Um, so, let's go. Without further ado, I'll bring you guys in with the first dig.

[00:00:50]I've been just finding a lot of like copper scraps.

[00:00:53]Again, couple broaches I didn't film.

[00:01:54]Um, it just stopped immediately. It's up against this tree. It was farther up from where I had just dug and I see a piece of brass sticking out right there.

[00:02:08]Ah, beautiful side plate from a flintlock musket.

[00:02:17]Man, just broke the end Oh, actually I don't You know, I don't know if that's actually broken or if it was designed like that to kind of put in turn in place.

[00:02:27]I've seen them complete, but you know, that really doesn't even look broken to me.

[00:02:32]It looks like it was intentionally made like that.

[00:02:35]That is gorgeous. Oh my gosh.

[00:02:38]Wow, look at these just old drilled holes.

[00:02:42]I'm guessing, you know, this was taken off maybe to put a serpent side plate on cuz the natives love the serpents and they would just take these off if you know, but look at that. Just beautiful side plate. Unbelievable find.

[00:03:00]And tried to break [snorts] away and couldn't get it live. It was just up against the tree and it was actually kind of like flat in there as you guys saw. See like the original hole it was in. It was just kind of straight up and down, so it was kind of hard to locate, but man, look at the beautiful scrollwork on that.

[00:03:16]That's definitely very you know, early 1700s I'd say. Pre-1750, probably French.

[00:03:22]Sometimes they'll have a mark or like a maker on the back, but I don't see one.

[00:03:28]So, probably uh points even being older. So, great save, amazing find. Wow, that is just stunning. Beautiful.

[00:06:54]Yeah, it's just kind of it's a little bit iffy, but sometimes when you get down deep tones can get iffy.

[00:08:17]I knew it was going to be deep based on the way it sounded.

[00:08:35]It's a massive mouth harp. Oh, man, it is intact.

[00:08:40]That's awesome.

[00:08:43]Well, that was way down there, but um stunning mouth harp. There would be an iron reed that went down the center.

[00:08:52]Put that in your mouth and you prong the reed.

[00:08:55]These were really heavy, you know, great trade items.

[00:08:59]Uh yeah, this one's really heavy. It's old.

[00:09:05]Uh solid brass.

[00:09:08]So, this is just a great piece and probably a little bit older variety based on you know, the style of of heavy brass as these got um as they more produced and they would even create iron ones of these, but this is a great brass one. You can see where the reed attached back here.

[00:09:35]And this one sounds pretty good.

[00:12:40]So, they would shine.

[00:12:43]As you can see, I can almost shine this up. They'd almost have like a silver wash look to them.

[00:12:47]And they always have a hole, but I don't you know Um sometimes the hole would go down through them. This one's got a hole at the top.

[00:12:55]But that's a great find. So, this would be like a fishing hook uh fishing lure of the 1700s.

[00:13:02]And they would jig this down to attract fish, and they'd have a hook uh that accompanied it. So, great save.

[00:13:24]Well, I get this one live. Um kind of a bouncy 54, pretty deep. And um, I just flipped it out of the hole.

[00:13:44]Nice. Just trying to see if it's got any writing on it.

[00:14:52]And it's definitely a maybe some iron. I don't know. There's something else right here.

[00:15:09]Um, just due to the proximity of that button, I'm going to go ahead and give it a whirl.

[00:16:30]1700s. [snorts] And unfortunately, it's seen better days. Maybe we'll get a maker's mark off that when we clean it up.

[00:16:45]And uh 1700s, no doubt about it. It's a good save.

[00:16:53]Iron was just kind of flaking all over, but still a neat neat find. Well, it had a a bone or wooden handle there.

[00:17:03]And um but very you you know uh noticeable and in time period uh shape there, so good save.

[00:17:21]All right, I'm going to need a bulldozer. Uh the knife was there, the button was there.

[00:17:25]And I have yet another sound in that hole.

[00:18:37]Oh, this one's got a little cloth still on this shank. Look at that.

[00:18:43]How does that cloth survive almost 300 years in the soil? It's impressive.

[00:18:52]Uh I don't see anything on the face of this one, either. I'll clean it up later, but amazing that gilt. And look at that cloth, still intact in there.

[00:19:39]It was a coin gold coin spill. Wow, that'd be something. Uh but just look how beautiful that gilt is.

[00:19:44]Unbelievable. So, all right. Well, three buttons, one hole, and one knife.

[00:19:49]>> [snorts] >> So, somebody if I sat here to eat, took his coat off, and ran away.

[00:20:05]Well, kept working that hole, found yet one more button in there so far.

[00:20:10]And again, same thing. Nice gold gilt, so. All right. Well, I'll clean those all up, put a picture in the wrap-up, but so far four gold gilt buttons and one knife all in the same hole.

[00:20:30]>> [snorts] >> I had a junk junky iron down just down from those buttons and the knife.

[00:20:35]And, uh just pulled it out, and it doesn't look like much.

[00:20:39]Um big iron, but I can tell what that is even with all the corrosion in it.

[00:20:46]This little knob right here at the very top, right there, tells me that it's a muskrat spear.

[00:20:52]This would have attached into a wooden pole.

[00:20:55]And then, this spear would have gone down uh inward. So, this would have been the point of the spear.

[00:21:01]And, uh yeah, used for spearing muskrats and, uh collecting furs.

[00:21:07]1700s right there. Hopefully this rust will come off there and I can restore it. Sometimes I have a barb at the bottom here.

[00:21:15]Uh sometimes it won't, but 1700s muskrat spear. Great save.

[00:21:26]I just took up another one here, but sounded just like a shotgun shell.

[00:21:31]And uh it was not.

[00:21:33]Ended being single stone trade ring.

[00:21:38]The stone is missing.

[00:21:40]I will try to uh poke around in the hole see if I can see it just gently, but um otherwise nice save.

[00:21:58]All right. Um I'm going to show you what I've been digging so far. A little little piece of copper. This part is like a patch to a copper patch right here to up up like a kettle that has failed and then they put another piece of copper over it. And then uh piece of an armband, a copper armband, and then another piece of copper kettle. This sound I got a sound right in front of me.

[00:22:21]And it sounds just like those, but um so it might be more of the same.

[00:22:26]But the definitely some old stuff in this area.

[00:22:36]Pretty loud.

[00:22:44]So maybe more kettle.

[00:22:47]I don't know.

[00:22:49]We're going to find out.

[00:24:03]Wow. All right, let's see what's going to be on that.

[00:24:11]Um one second. I'm going to try to get this to zoom in. It's an odd image here.

[00:24:22]Almost looks like maybe a D with a V cut through it.

[00:24:29]Or an M with a D around it. I don't know.

[00:24:36]Uh grapevine though, that's late 1600s, early 1700s Jesuit ring. The Jesuit priests in the area would give these out to the natives to recruit them to Christianity.

[00:24:54]And the Jesuits um were no longer in this area after 1750 when the British took control as they were French uh, Jesuit priests and the French were uh, essentially lost control over this land and forfeited it to the British. So, so that's great save. Definitely, you know, late 1600s all the way up to that 750 1750 time frame.

[00:25:24]All right, I just stood up from that Jesuit. It was right there.

[00:25:29]And I started doing just some perimeter circles here.

[00:25:34]And just a few feet away I had another almost a almost identical sound. But again, this it does sound very similar to the copper scrap.

[00:27:27]But, it's either an M or an H, I think, based on uh just the scratching I can tell.

[00:27:35]Um you know, these were Latin and you know, they stood for different religious phrases.

[00:27:45]And uh so, you know, you'd find them in many different varieties. But, uh excellent save.

[00:28:04]Definitely uh felt uh stumbled onto an older French site this week based on on the finds. You know, that old pewter fishing rig.

[00:28:15]Uh yeah, the the side plate, the rings.

[00:28:18]Just not a lot of silver, a little bit, the silver I was finding was like the you know, thicker variety, that earlier silver. So, that's a good sign. Uh hopefully there's more of that to come in the in the weeks ahead. That's, you know, this big property. It definitely had multiple eras, French out early French occupation and some British British occupation. So, you know, pre-1750s and post-1750s. So, it's exciting. It's a great place to be. Had a awesome time.
