The video correctly identifies a dangerous legal vacuum, but it underestimates the difficulty of using slow-moving laws to control a borderless and fast-evolving technology. It is a necessary wake-up call that highlights the growing gap between our static legal systems and the fluid reality of AI.

Deep Dive
Can we regulate deepfakes?Indiziert:
Ai generated content is getting harder & harder to detect. And we’ve done nothing to apply even the most basic regulations to ai generated content. There is no simple solution that will fix all of the problems, but we can pass regulations that would increase the difficulty to create fake media, and reduce the amount of it being created. This is simply the first step.
If I lied about somebody to hurt their reputation, is that illegal?
>> Hoho, yeah, that's defamation. Or libel or slander. I can't keep track of them, but it's illegal.
>> Okay.
If I created a deep fake of someone in blackface or just saying something awful, is that illegal?
>> No, just don't say that it's real.
>> But I don't have to say that it's fake.
Nah.
Technology's pretty cool, huh? Can I lie about a politician to try and influence an election?
>> What? No, are you even listening to me?
That is illegal.
>> Interesting.
How about guns? Super legal, the most legal. Parents of Sandy Hook victims sued Remington and they won a landmark case, which set the precedent that manufacturers can be held liable for harm that their products cause.
>> Right, they found that Remington promoted reckless and dangerous use of their product.
>> And AI companies letting everyone generate fake content is not reckless?
Ballerina Cappuccino never hurt nobody.
>> If a news organization falsely reported that a candidate had conceded defeat while the polls were still open, would that be illegal? Well, if they did it on purpose, they're certainly creating legal exposure. They're potentially swaying an election.
>> But if I had AI create a video of a candidate conceding [music] defeat while the polls were still open, I can just put that out there to to go viral?
>> Mhm, yeah, as long as you don't say it's real. I don't get it. We have given everyone access to disinformation generating machines and we have laws around things like this, but specifically with AI, it's just the wild west. Uh, I mean, they regulate themselves, so I trust them. Well, I don't. And that's why I've partnered with change.org to create a petition to try and regulate AI-generated content [music] as well as how social media platforms are able to handle it. Yeah, that's another one we have not regulated. What is?
>> Social media. And look how well that's turned out.
>> [laughter] >> Shut up, nerd.
