This vlog offers a sharp ethnographic look at how globalized commercial spaces adapt to local social hierarchies and security imperatives. It effectively illustrates the friction between Western expectations of order and the pragmatic realities of high-density urban environments.

Visiting India’s Biggest Mall with weird rules 🇮🇳 | Lulu Mall Kochi本站收录:
Today we spent the day exploring Lulu Mall Kochi 🇮🇳 — one of India’s biggest malls! From the huge crowds and shopping to the different mall rules and culture, it was such an interesting experience for us as a Canadian-Indian family living in Kerala. One thing that really surprised us was the “no bags inside” policy in many stores 👀 We also noticed some big differences between mall culture in India and Canada throughout the day. Come spend the day with us at Lulu Mall Kerala as we shop, explore, eat, and experience one of the busiest malls in India! #LuluMall #KeralaVlog #IndiaVlog #CanadianInIndia #Kochi #FamilyVlog #IndiaTravel #MallVlog #LuluMallKochi #LifeInIndia
All right, so we are lost at Lulu Mall.
We have no idea where we are.
We're looking for a shoe store, but you're really thirsty. So, we're also looking for something to drink. Really, really, really Yeah, it's really I don't know how to explain it. It's like you don't really know where you are because it's this all these roads to take.
And so many different businesses here.
We got Jack and Jones. I wish they start this one in Thrissur.
Apparently, he wanted to start first in Thrissur and from some political to finish this thing put it in.
I wish he did though. But he has one in Palakkad. We didn't go to it, but we saw it uh when we were there last. When we were driving through Palakkad, we saw one.
>> And then you were all jealous. You're like, "Even Palakkad has it."
>> [laughter] >> Uh-oh.
I don't know if there's some kind of issue between Thrissur people Palakkad.
All right, we found the food court. Uh we were actually trying to look for McDonald's, but I think it's downstairs.
So, we're at the Pizza Hut. I was really thirsty. Just wanted to get some either Coke or something. Just water.
Yeah. But when we came to Pizza Hut, right? This is Pizza Hut?
I saw that they have this a lemon mojito and mint and lemon mojito and what was the thing masala mojito. Looks really good, too. So, we ordered that. The thing is that we thinking is very quick.
We comparing it with the Canada where everything is just you order it right away you get it. But here it's not like that. They asked us to wait 7 minutes.
Just for a drink which is like which is something we are not so used to anymore.
>> That's fast for India though. Maybe.
Uh there's no real fast food concept here. They're not fast foods, but it's not fast.
>> Yeah. That's the thing. We have McDonald's, but but McDonald's is not fast like Canada. It takes time to get burger. Might be hard to imagine.
There's this thing uh in North America where you place an order and basically you just wait for like maybe a minute and they'll just hand you the food. It's that fast. So this is the This is the masala dosa.
>> [laughter] >> It's good.
I don't like it. Not a fan. I got the mint lemon and that's really good.
Try it. You were smart. Let's try the mint lemon finish.
>> [music] >> Oh, now that's a drink.
This one's good.
So good.
Every time we come, we usually come with our children.
>> I think the kids want to do is go on like the roller coasters and that sort of thing. They have their the kind of play areas here. Really nice ones.
>> Yeah. So I see lots of We are actually have a membership here too. So he want to play there. This time he's not with us. We can finally relax and shop.
Yeah, everyone gets out.
See if we can get in now. We were here first.
All right, so we survived that experience going down the elevator.
Oh, I I don't I feel like Canadian I think I can't handle too tight of crowds. It gives me anxiety.
And also one thing which was bothering us throughout our stay here is if you press the elevator the when the door opens people from all over the city they don't think that oh these people are already there. They decide to go to the first step. You know there's a line up. There is that you know that civic sense that when you come last you enter last. You know when you come last they first enter and the people who are waiting there has to go inside last.
>> I know. Like when as soon as I enter a line up I try to figure out okay this guy was here before me. Okay, I make sure he goes ahead of me. But for for some reason people try to be like, "Well, if I can squeeze in ahead of somebody, I will." Let's try Adidas.
They've got a lot of shoes.
Still here. This is Puma.
So, lesson learned. Never promise your son something that you can't get. Told them we would get him a shoe with a something spinning on it because he saw something similar to that for girls, and he wanted it.
We were shopping all around to Shornur now, Kochi, to get something like that.
No, they don't carry anything like that for boys. This place reminds me of Home Sense.
Or maybe a little higher end, though.
2,500.
So pretty. I like it.
Lego. Yeah, Lego. I see loves Lego.
Where do we go? Oh, wow.
You're very touchy.
>> there. This is a touch screen? Lulu Fashion. This is where we wanted to go.
>> It's like one big store? Apparently.
I've never been there. Cuz they have their own grocery store, right? Lulu.
Yeah, Lulu Hypermarket.
>> And now, this is just their fashion.
So, this is all like the fashion floor, right? Like style. Kind of good to see what's in style these days. It looks like we're going with the thicker frame.
Okay, so this is This is called Lulu Fashion Store.
Wow. Oh.
Why? So, you have to drop your stroller at the front. This doesn't make sense. I need a stroller for my kid, and it's my kid's a diaper bag, so I'm not doing it.
I don't get like you can go to every other store with a with a stroller, no problem, but for some reason this one you can't.
I think if we put the baby inside, then they can't say no because we're not going to leave the baby at the bag depot. Excuse me.
>> make sense.
>> I cannot leave This bag has to go there.
This thing cannot go in it.
But they don't sell it, do they?
I don't It doesn't make any sense. It's just so stupid. It's every shop is like that here. Okay.
I don't know.
We're not thieves. We don't have a criminal record. So you have to give this here because they think we are here to steal. Thank you.
So they give us this little token. We leave our bag with them just in case if we put something in there and try to steal it.
I don't know.
>> [laughter] >> I don't know. I feel like it's like the Bay. It's like the Bay, yes.
>> Yeah. But with a lot of offers though.
They don't have offers. Bay has offers.
Uh Bay Days, the Bay Days. Remember those days?
>> Days, yeah. Uh but this place is Yes, it's kind of like always on sale. I [music] guess.
Manda. That good? That's too much.
You're having fun.
We got a lot of shoe options here. Nope.
Those are all adults. Oh, [music] it just keeps going.
This is a huge store.
Looks like we found your new favorite store. Expensive though. I like my Tres Shoo.
Tres Shoo is cheaper, boo.
I don't know. I don't buy that expensive clothes. I always buy something cheaper.
[music] I use everything so rough, so I don't want any expensive ones. We both don't spend money on clothes or jewelries or anything. We live pretty cheap.
>> She's surprised how many people are shopping and paying for all these expensive clothing. I It's like compared to the US, it's cheaper, but it's not actually that much cheaper cuz there's places in the US that you can shop that's actually cheaper than here. So uh yeah, it's interesting. Like this would be This is probably more than Burlington's. I think it's um same as Same as Burlington. Burlington.
>> Okay, well that's This is in Burlington, so right? This is More quality. It's not like a gay It's What?
Oh, okay. So, this is big quality big >> Big quality, but Burlington price.
>> Like a sweater could be like $80.
Here, I think sweaters might be $40.
Where does the line start, man? It's actually after them, it's me. But, that doesn't work like that here.
>> So, first these people come out.
And then let's see if we go next. And you know Let's see.
All right, we got out.
>> [laughter] >> So, you have to really You have to be aggressive. You have to be like, "I'm first and I don't care."
>> [laughter] >> If you want to survive here. This is one thing we are afraid of raising our children here, because how do we teach them this civic sense? Because they'll be left behind.
I think maybe it just starts with sticking up like talking, telling people, "Hey, no. Let's Let's build a line here, people."
Um Of course, you can't do that on the road, though.
>> [laughter] >> But, it starts somewhere, maybe.
I guess. I don't want to start that fight or anything, but I think it's like people has to learn this. This is very basic common sense, I think. I don't know.
But, you were probably like that before coming to Canada.
>> That's what I'm thinking. When I went to Canada, I had a senior. The first day when I arrived there, he was like a showing us Canada and telling us how to behave in Canada. So, one thing he was telling us like when you are trying to get inside a building, you always make sure people in front of you go there first. And when you enter, uh you always open the door for the person behind. So, these kind of very small things he was teaching us so that we will not behave the way we behave here there. So, it takes time to learn, but I think once you're doing it, you start to realize, oh, this is way better. It makes total sense, so. Try not to be rude to people already there.
Yeah, it makes the world a whole lot nicer cuz then when everyone's looking after each other, it's just because you know that somebody's going to look after you, you're also going to look after somebody else, so hopefully that changes.
How was [music] it?
It was fun. It's nice to see a lot of things.
It reminded me a lot of like the wax [music] figures, like
