The critique accurately diagnoses how the show’s narrative focus has been diluted by franchise-building, leaving character development in the shadow of corporate expansion. It’s a sharp reminder that even the most subversive stories can lose their edge when they prioritize commercial longevity over narrative closure.

Was The Boys Finale Actually That BAD?Indexé :
Main Channel - https://www.youtube.com/@UCE0PiuKj_QDMwqNeRimoXbQ
The Boys has ended. Their goose is cooked. It is over 7 years after its debut on Amazon Prime in the good old year of 2019 during the great cough of 2020. It is has now ended as of the time that I am recording this. And honestly, bro, I just want to I I feel like a dedicated little yap about it, dude. Like something that isn't this a normal like segment that I would do in like the dedicated channel. I kind of want to just like talk about it over here cuz I have a lot of thoughts. When I'm thinking about The Boys and the absolute peak that The Boys was in that seasons 1, 2, and 3, and I will defend that. Throughout this entire season, I have had to fight off the absolutely brain the brain-dead drones that would come in in these comments and [snorts] say something along the lines of "It's so crazy that people are just now realizing that The Boys is mid. The Boys was never good. The Boys is absolutely awful."
Doc, I'm sorry. I don't agree with you. That is what makes this so frustrating. The Boys seasons 1, 2, and 3 were absolutely golden.
It was only after season 4 that I finally go, "Ooh, you man, this is the the this this is going down."
And I want to talk about season 5. So, so as far as season 4, the best way that I can describe it is imagine you are on an absolute hot streak only to trip over yourself and completely and utterly just para- like you're paralyzed. Like imagine that you are on an absolute streak of winning every single race that you are in only to trip over a pebble and just annihilate your entire leg.
That is how I would describe the momentum switch from seasons 1, 2, and 3 to season 4 of The Boys. So, we're going into season 5.
And normally, the issue that you run into when you're going into like a final season is that the expectation is unbelievably high because we had all of these seasons of peak. Going into this season, weirdly enough, the expectations were low. Okay? We looked at season 4.
We excused it as filler. Everything that was going on in season 4, the only reason that we're doing all this is because it's going to pay off in season 5. And season 5 is going to be this absolute blast, this barn burner, and everybody's going to love it. We go into season 5, okay?
It's literally just more of season 4.
Like granted, there's a little bit more, but that little bit more, honestly, just feels like they were giving Soldier Boy stuff to do because we were giving him a whole series.
Like there's storylines that that we have to talk about to to like explain a lot of like the my problems with season 5. Number one, season 5 struggles from it's wrapping up a series at the same time that it's trying to be a a cold launch to two other series. And I do mean two. Okay? Because before this even comes out, you have Vought Rising, which is meant to be a prequel starring Soldier Boy and all of the original supes back in the when they came back from WW2.
And then we had another series called The Boys Mexico that was going to be a direct continuation of The Boys. So at the time of this season starting, we had a four series within The Boys universe, only for Gen V to not make the cut.
Okay? And I need you to understand this.
I actually think that the premise of Gen V is actually a really good premise, and it sets up something really good to come after The Boys. Or I thought, because I thought we were going to go a certain way, but we ended up not going that way.
The point that I'm trying to make here is that season 5 had that issue of it had the soft launch two series at the same time that it had to wrap up its own. So we go into this final See, let let this final season. And we have returning characters, okay? We got Soldier Boy back. We got Jensen Daddy Ackles coming in here hot or cold from from from the hibernation little little little little stasis chamber that he's in. And any time that we need to get people locked in on The Boys, we're going to microwave him like a Totino's pizza roll to get everybody in on this.
And Soldier Boy comes in and oh my gosh, bro, I have never seen a character literally switch his motivations every other episode.
We have characters like my favorite addition that came from season 4 is Sister Sage.
By the end of this season, I cannot stand Sister Sage, bro.
I have never seen a character that is meant to be the smartest character be so unbelievably dumb for the dumbest reasons I've ever heard.
Okay?
Soldier Boy is given so much of the plot to do whatever he wants to do. He is like sewed off as a very sympathetic character at the same time that we've already gotten a large portion of his plot in season 3. We've seen what his love interest was. We've seen all this.
And we've had this even like joke that he may or may not have slept with Stormfront, which gets confirmed this season. You have all of that stuff that's going on that like, wait, did Homelander sleep with his mom? No, not actually. You have all of that stuff happening only to And And again, And again, I I think we've already passed spoilers, but spoilers to get to get it even farther.
Is Soldier Boy has it is trying to get V1. No, no, Homelander's trying to get V1. Cuz he wants to live forever. He wants to be a god a god on Earth, okay?
So, Homelander tries to get V1, which is the same serum that Soldier Boy and all of the original people started using back in the 1940s.
Okay?
So, Homelander needs Soldier Boy to track down the V-ought and Soldier Boy absolutely hates Homelander. And it's to a POINT THAT HE HAS MORE REASONS TO hate the guy now. Like, I'll never forget because in season 3 and oh my goodness, like I like I'm getting raids baited because I'm another problem with season 5 of The Boys is it feels like season 4 in the way that I felt like nothing that happened in season 4 ever gets called back to and where there are more clothing season 2 and season 3. OKAY, LONG story short, Soldier Boy ends up getting the V-ought and when given the chance to either destroy it or give it to Homelander, he gives it to Homelander. Okay?
And the reasoning isn't oh, you're my son. Oh, I love you. It's Clara or Stormfront would want you to have that.
We had a callback to frankly a season 2 character in order to justify this part of the plot. And I'm sorry, dude.
V-ought is useless. LIKE, V-OUGHT IS actually hilariously useless, bro.
Like like like it it is.
It is portrayed the entire time that V-ought is meant to be like a massive power boost to Homelander making him absolutely unstoppable, whereas he already was unstoppable. So, I think we're going into the finale and we're going to get scorched earth. NO.
NOT AT ALL, BRO. I WOULDN'T even be surprised if V-ought actually weakened him a little bit. Because we go into the final episode and there are some good parts to the final episode. My hot take is is I think the finale is actually a good episode. But the season did such a bad job at building up to it that the entire thing just feels meh.
Like I like I like I like I just feel meh about it. I feel mid about it. It's not awful. It's not like a Game of Thrones ending. But I I just feel meh about it. That's the best way that I can describe it. So, when I'm going in to to to the final showdown between Homelander, Butcher, and again we get Ryan in here, we get Kimiko coming in here. Also, Kimiko gets a chest blast.
Um I I actually really like that. I think Kimiko getting the chest blast, yeah, does it feel like a MacGuffin out of absolutely nowhere in the way that it was the concept of that was introduced in one episode. Not the chest blast, I mean, the concept of Kimiko being able to get the chest blast, and her getting it happens in the exact same episode. It is unbelievably quick because frankly there's no other way to have to have our gang beat Homelander other than this. Okay?
So, we get Sister Sage. Oh my goodness, bro.
This talking about the final season actually has got to be one of the most rage-baiting things. Because Sister Sage, which is one of my favorite characters in the previous season, and new favorite character is Oh Father in this season. Okay? I'll just admit that.
Oh Father's probably one of my favorite characters in the entirety of The Boys right now.
Sister Sage is a character that could predict just about anything. Yet, she can't predict the most basic of things when it comes to anything having to do with emotions. Oh well, she's smart, SHE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND LOVE. I absolutely hate that. I hate that trope in media just in general that like smart people don't understand love because I have no clue where you get that from. No, people aren't that unpredictable. Like it really isn't. Well, how could she have known that that that that Soldier Boy was going to get it? TO TO SOLVE THE SISTER SAGE'S CREDIT, SHE LITERALLY had a mind reader like point-blank tell her that Soldier Boy's actually kind of proud of Homelander.
Never once crosses her mind though.
Never once crosses her mind that this could ever occur. But oh my goodness, she gets her comeuppance. She ends up for having the dumbest end goals of all time. An introvert's wet dream of I just want the entire world to end so I can read books. Yeah, you get chest blasted and now you're just a normal person's level of intelligence and boom she's gone. She literally goes to Universal Studios. You think I'm kidding? No, scorched earth is one of the characters in the finale goes to Universal Studios.
Okay? But we have Kimiko chest blast, we have Frenchie RIP, you have Butcher with his cancer, you got Ryan, Hughie, Starlight, Mother's Milk. They all going in on the White House, okay? They infiltrate the White House with almost zero problems whatsoever. Like literally almost zero problems, okay? You have Ashley come in, she opens the door for them. That's the closest they ever get to getting iced. They got a live broadcast of Homelander basically proclaiming that he is the new god.
All of that's going on.
The boys stroll in, they they have the final showdown, but the camera is rolling the entire time.
I need you to understand this. This was the scorched earth season. There is literally no scorched earth. Like I don't know if it was Moist who said it or somebody else that said it. Dude, I have The Boys was a very like large picture series and order of everything that they did had like large consequences. To by the end of it it feels like everything is too isolated.
Okay? Like Homelander, A SUPER HYPER POWERED Homelander by the way, is having his final battle. A character that can fly to space and back in under 5 seconds is having his final battle tooth and nail with BUTCHER AND KIMIKO. BEAR IN MIND, HOMELANDER IS A character that has one tapped Kimiko and sliced her in half with his baseline laser vision. Yeah, no, that's just not a thing. Yeah, we're just not going to do that. That's barely an inconvenience. Every character's able to tank heat vision LIKE OH!
OH MY GOSH, DUDE. BECAUSE SO MANY CHARACTERS like like it suffers from we need to underpower our characters for the sake of the finale. Like friendly reminder, Ryan had heat vision vision that was so powerful that he was able to completely decimate Stormfront just like that.
Okay? Already stated to be way more powerful than anything Homelander EVER HAD. YEAH, RYAN DOES NOTHING to that level this entire. He's able to like hit hit Homelander with a few lasers that do some level of damage. But other than that, nothing even remotely close.
Dude, I wouldn't be surprised if it came out that V1 actually weakened like weakened him. And that yeah that could be something cool that you could have done. That yeah, Homelander gets to live forever, but it actually makes his normal superpowers weaker because of V1 and normal V1 never meant to be TAKEN TOGETHER. LIKE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN SOMETHING that you added, AND IT WOULD HAVE COVERED UP A PLOT hole because Homelander is just weaker.
Like he just is weaker in the final showdown.
Okay?
Homelander taking on Butcher, taking on Ryan, taking on Kimiko. Kimiko hits him with the chest blast, and boom, Butcher loses his powers. It's implied that Ryan loses his powers, but most importantly, Homelander loses his powers.
And then you get Butcher absolutely laying the paws on Homelander, just beating him into a into a pulp.
And then we get probably one of the more satisfying parts of the entire episode where like Homelander's like groveling.
I like like like that part is satisfying. Like I'm covering the good, too.
And then Butcher ices him, and you have 20 min 20 minutes left in the episode.
20 minutes left in the episode, by the way. Okay?
That was 20 minutes.
I swear, bro, I actively was like, is Butcher actually going to survive the series? Because one thing that also gets completely like like they don't talk about it is [snorts] the chest blast must have cured Butcher of his brain cancer.
Like it must have cured him cuz that never got brought up again. That his cancer literally never gets brought up.
Oh, like unless like again, unless Oh, yeah, it was powered by Compound V and when and when the chest blast hit him, it worked as a form of getting rid of the entire thing. Like again, you can do that and I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, but that's never stated once.
Okay?
So, we now we get like the the entirety of the boy. I cannot preface this enough. Scorched Earth uh characters are going to go down. The entire Boys crew is safe outside of Frenzy.
And they're talking about everything that they want to do. Everything's good.
Everything's good. And everybody kind of goes on their own merry way, but we get one final like confronta- OH, NO, NO.
Here's one. Here's one.
Butcher tries to raise Ryan, okay?
And then Ryan says no. Ryan does not like Butcher and he has every reason not to like Butcher, okay? Because his tumor was making him really evil, okay? Like that that's what it was.
And then Butcher goes to his dog and his dog is pa- like bro, the his dog not being alive is honestly one of the saddest parts of the entire episode.
But then Butcher goes from being like, I'm going to raise Ryan and be happy and I'm going to pet my dog to I am going to annihilate every single SUPE ON THE PLANET.
LIKE AND AGAIN, HE DOESN'T HAVE THE CORRUPTING CANCER THING ANYMORE. THAT'S GONE. THAT'S NOT A PLOT POINT ANYMORE.
THIS IS JUST NORMAL BUTCHER. LIKE LIKE THE IT JUST MOVE IT GOT so like immediately turned around to the point that it felt like a whiplash, but it was like, okay, we have this plot point that we have to pay off, so we have to do the virus thing.
He goes to Vought Tower, okay? Goes to Vought Tower, and then we get a confrontation between Hughie and Butcher. And I think that was done well enough.
But oh my goodness, bro, did it feel like it was like we need to take get rid of one other person. We're going to get rid of Butcher.
And then you we go we fast forward a little bit, okay? Um little quick this is like like super quick. Um Kimiko goes to France, okay? Okay, so eats like some some some food from France.
Um Hughie and Starlight end up having a baby named after Hughie's ex, by the way.
Did Starlight ever know that? Okay, whatever. Whatever. Naming Naming a baby after your ex is kind of crazy. I'm not even going to lie. Um and then we have Mother's Milk raising Ryan.
DUDE, I DON'T EVEN KNOW.
DUDE, I DON'T KNOW. LIKE LIKE THAT COMES OUT OF NOWHERE to the point where I'm like is he raising him? Or is he his best mate? Like what what are we doing with this? Like like what what what's really going on here?
And then we get like this soft core like like alludes to A, yeah, Stan Edgar's back and he's going to be running Vought. And he may or may not return in Vought Rising when we do like a modern-day segment. And The Boys Mexico is going to be a thing. Also, also, you know uh you know what this guy uh Singer that that we haven't really talked about for like a season and a half? Yeah, he's back and he's offering Hughie this job um where he's going to be the new Butcher. And that's definitely not going to be its own series if THIS DOES WELL.
LIKE I'M NOT KIDDING YOU. The final like sequence of The Boys is really them just being like, "Hey, if you want more of this, we can make a direct sequel, or we can do a prequel that turns into a sequel. Soldier Boy still alive, Mother's Milk still alive, and Huey could be the new Butcher.
Like we could do that. Like that's what it felt like. And I think to culminate my thoughts on The Boys, it felt like it lost itself in between season 3 and season 4, and then they got like a little bit of a call from Amazon or Bezos and was like, "A uh you need to keep this going."
And then a lot like the writing that was going strictly into The Boys was going to Gen V, it was going to Vought Rising, and then it was going to The Boys Mexico.
>> [snorts] >> And you can feel the drop in quality when those things get lumped into it.
And all around, bro, that's that's my thoughts on The Boys. I don't even know how long it is. I just wanted to do like a little dedicated yap. I know it's not going to be like a full full video, but that's why I'm putting this on this channel and not the full channel. If you come over from there, thank you, everybody. It That does mean the absolute most if uh I encourage you to subscribe on this one. I'm going to put out like more like side content on this one. Hit the subscribe button. Hit the bell icon to stay notified whenever we do do something. And uh yeah. Uh I'll I'm going to see you guys in the next one. Adios.
