Absolute Green Arrow is a billionaire hunter! Insane first issue and another great new comic book day! Thank you all for watching! Intro and Background Music by Blue Sirens: https://open.spotify.com/track/2ZmoX1... #comics #dc #dccomics
Let's put on Hey YouTube, welcome to the channel.
Happy new comic book day and also happy absolute green arrow day. I almost said absolute green lantern but won't do that. So exciting day. I'm really excited about this book right now. I think it's only six issues, but it's porn sack pich show and then Raphael Albuquerque on absolute green arrow who's hunting down billionaires. Very timely going to get that. Also, I think absolute flash comes out today. Uh there's a couple other books like all the first wave of next level books like I think uh Batgirl uh Batoman number three, uh Lobo number three, and then Deathstroke number three. So, there's a wave of that and then there's a couple other things, but I'm honestly really excited about Absolute Green Arrow. Um, Porn Tac is doing a signing at Midtown Comics Grand Central. I was going to do that, but Blueie is going to be doing a meet and greet. And, uh, I have to take my son. I He loves Blueie more than I love Green Arrow. And I love Green Arrow. Green Arrow was my first story that I ever read, Green Arrow Quiver. I still have the original trade that my uncle gave me literally like 25 years ago, which is like insane. Uh, so I love Green Arrow, love Pornac, who actually was on my podcast. So check that out.
Bada boom podcast. Uh, they did Man's Best, Good Asian, uh, great writer, and I'm excited to see their take on Absolute Green Arrow. Uh, I'm so excited to read this book. I haven't read it yet, so uh, excited for that. And you know, I'm really just going to be going to the comic shop and then meeting Blueie, which is like, you know, the biggest thing ever. It's like meeting Michael Jackson, but uh cool day. We're going to do that and then yeah, I don't know if we're going to do anything else.
So, come with me. Before heading out, I wanted to give my comic book recommendation of the day. I haven't done that in a little bit. So, I wanted to talk about a book I've been loving, which is Firestorm. Actually, The Fury of Firestorm from Jeff Lamir and who is the artist? Uh Delatori. Uh Dellator.
This is amazing. Two issues have come out. Uh Jeff Lamir, I haven't been loving Absolute Flash. I think it was the book I was the most excited about when it came to the Absolute Universe after the first wave, which was uh Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. And I feel like for a Flash book, it kind of goes a little bit slow. So, I was like, you know, I really love Jeff Leamir, and it's the absolute universe. And you would think someone like Jeff Leamir who always kind of like subverts expectations and kind of takes characters in directions you've never seen it. You're like, "Oh, like that's perfect for the Absolute Universe." And Absolute Flash has kind of been the most traditional superhero kind of DC story in the Absolute Universe. This feels like an Absolute book. What he is doing and Dellator are doing with Firestorm is insane. It's almost like I'm reading a Dr. Manhattan book. Now, I've always known Firestorm was powerful. I've played them in the Injustice game, and sort of like my familiarity with them comes from the Arrowverse when they appeared in Flash and then also Legends of Tomorrow. So, I don't really have much of a background with them. I know obviously they're kind of like they could create any element, which means they can kind of like them in themselves are kind of like a nuclear weapon. They can kind of shape the world around them.
But I don't think, you know, from my experience, I don't know if anyone's ever taken advantage of that. And Jeff Lamir has really created a really unique story that I feel like I'm getting their background, getting to know who they are. You know, Dr. Stein and I think Robbie Robbie's this version of it. And also, it's just so it feels like I'm reading an indie book. And I feel like that's the vibe I got from the Absolute Universe with some of these bigger stories. And I know people have been loving this book. I love it. I think the first issue went to a second printing. I hope that this is an ongoing. I don't know. I think a lot of the next level books are kind of like, hey, they're testing things out and stuff like that.
But this book is Jeff Lamir at his peak.
And now Absolute Flash number 15 is coming out today or 14. And now I have to pick that up and be like, okay, like, you know, some of the juice back in this book. Um, because this is awesome. If you love Jeff Leamir like I do, this is kind of like exactly what he did with Animal Man in terms of taking it in directions you you could not expect.
When I picked up the first issue, I kind of one picked it up on the strength of his name, but also it's like next level.
All right, let me try all these Next Level books. And this is the best of the next level books. I wouldn't be surprised if next year it's got awards and stuff like that or, you know, it's going past 12 issues because these first two issues have been amazing. So, check out Fury of Firestorm from DC Comics.
Let's head over to Midtown Comics. Took the train over there again. It was a beautiful day. Uh, what's crazy is that later in the day, it started pouring.
Uh, one thing I haven't done during these vlogs is actually record myself actually going up the steps in full. So, I thought maybe I'd do that now. Give you a little POV. Um, because I am headed straight to get Absolute Green Arrow. Well, not really. I go upstairs and then come back down and get absolute green arrow. Um, but it was a beautiful day. Busy day as usual at Midtown Comics Times Square. Uh, I think the one day it wasn't busy was the Wednesday before Free Comic Book Day, but that was really the calm before the store. As I was doing my rounds upstairs, they had a huge restock of the DC Multiverse McFarland toys. Uh, what's crazy is that they still make Sniderverse toys. Like they had this Henry Caval Superman with Heat Vision that was pretty insane. They had a Tim Drake and then they also had a lot of the new Supergirl stuff which was really cool. And as the release gets closer to the movie, honestly, I'm getting more and more excited. I think the trailers and marketing that they've been doing a lot lately is a lot better than that first trailer, which I felt like put me a little uneasy, but now I'm more excited about it. So, I headed downstairs to get my look at the comics for New Comic Book Day. Um, it was pretty stacked for DC. Um, as usual, there wasn't too many Marvel books that I was particularly interested in. Um, honestly, as Marvel has kind of gone certain places, like it is confusing to look at the Marvel section and the comic. I'm like, wait, how many of these books are going on? How many of these books are going on? All right, so there's five number ones of the same character. Like, I just don't know what's going on on that side. Uh, and I read comics on a weekly basis and I think that's really detrimental, especially for new readers and stuff like that. But, uh, hoping they turn things around. Uh, I'm really digging the Chipski stuff, so hopefully they turn it around. It was crazy to see Dungeon Crawler Carl. Uh, that was a lot to say uh, blow up. I didn't know it was going to be a graphic novel. I thought they were going to release like the single issues and stuff like that, but apparently it's a graphic novel and it's 20 bucks. So, yeah. And then also a lot of cool like omnibuses came out like I really want this Bronze Age Teen Titans omnibus. Uh and there was some other cool stuff like the Blackest Knight Absolute came out. So um some really cool stuff as usual with DC. They're really on a roll and honestly there hasn't been a better time to be a DC fan in years. But yeah, picked up a couple more books. Again, the DC side of things were stacked and I had to leave some stuff. And there's some books that I've actually wanted to try out, like the new Teen Titans book I've heard is really good. Uh they had a really cool um Torin Clark cyborg cover. So, I think I'm going to have to circle back for that.
But again, DC is killing it. And after the shop, I picked up my son and we went to see Blue and that was a lot of fun.
I'm back and I got some comics. So, today was awesome. Got to hang out with my son and also my girlfriend. We went to um I got to take my son to see Bluey.
Then we went to Rockefeller Center and stuff like that. So, it was cool. It turned into a family day, which I didn't expect, which is also why this vlog is super late cuz I just got home. Um, but got some great comics. Um, wish I would have been able to go to the porn sack signing, but honestly, I'll probably catch them at um, New York Comic-Con if I get to go and then they're there. Um, they're probably going to be in New York sometime between that time, too. So, I was like, you know what? Um, there's not many times to meet Blueie, which is like meeting Michael Jackson for my son. So, I got some comics and I was really excited because actually Green Arrow was amazing. So, that was the one book I actually read. Um, it's exactly what is being hyped up to be. Raphael Albuquerque goes absolutely insane those last few pages. Like Green Arrows sort of like the way he uses his arrow. It's two machetes, but it also has like this thing on it. So, he's like cutting people's hands off and stuff like that.
It's It's insane. It's insane. And honestly, I don't even know if they are a he. So, who knows? Uh, Dina's awesome.
We got a look at um Roy Harper and, you know, Malcolm Merlin, some characters in the world of Green Arrow, and it'll be exciting to see who else makes first appearances during this series. I think it's mapped out to be six issues, but we know with the Absolute Universe if people want to continue it, and obviously the sales of this book support it. So, um, really great book. Love it.
And then, uh, we got, uh, Absolute Flash. Absolute Flash. Um, I think I've missed like I bought the last two issues, but I haven't read them. Uh, the end of sort of like the first arc, which was like I mean it's kind of the second arc, but like the big story of like Reverse Flash and sort of like the Star Lab story that ended with issue 12. And to be honest, it's been kind of like a slow book um compared to the other Absolute titles. Um, so I've heard good things about the last few issues and sort of like how it's been ramping up.
So I'm excited to read this. I'm probably going to like I don't know where I put the last two issues. So, I'll probably read them on um like the DC Infinite app to catch up. But, uh there's that. And then I think this is the one Marvel book I got, which is Venom. Uh I got it because I saw a panel in it that I thought was hilarious. And it seems like Al Yuing is having a lot of fun on Venom. There's this is a lot more fun than Amazing Spider-Man has been the last couple years. Uh so, it's funny. you know, a couple issues ago, uh, Paul died in the pages of Venom, uh, which is hilarious, but, um, so this is pretty funny. I I I did it for the bit, to be honest. Uh, and then I think that was the that might be the only Marvel book. Uh, Lobble number three, next level. Uh, I've been I think issue one wasn't like I loved the art, but I felt like I I don't know. I've never read Lobo. Like I've always liked the character, but I never read him. Um, so I think I have to go back and read issue two. I also have issue two, but I'm probably going to read it on infinite because I'm disorganized and I don't know where I put them. Uh, so issue number three. Love this cover.
Then we have uh Deathstroke the Terminator. Actually, of the first wave of Next Level books, I really liked uh Deathstroke that first issue. Um, still have to read the second issue. I have a big to be read pile. Uh, and the only things that really get read are like Absolute Batman uh right now Fury Firestorm and some other titles. uh all the Chipski Marvel stuff which we'll talk about in a bit. And then we have Nightwing which has been insane since Dennis Cowan has taken over. So Dan Waters has been writing Nightwing for the past year at this point, past year and a half. Um it was great to meet them at Everyone Comics and stuff like that. And now that Dennis Cowan's been on the book, they've been kind of expanding the lore of Blood Haven. And every issue has sort of been a different aspect of Blood Haven lore.
So, they're kind of like building it out almost like Gotham. Um, you know, obviously Gotham has like 85 years of history, not as much as Blood Haven. I think Blood Haven was created in the '9s. Uh, and so there's only 30 something years. And I don't think they've had the focus. It's just mainly been like, okay, like Gotham Light. But uh what Dan Waters is doing is really expanding the lore and the history of Blood Haven. Uh making it its own character which has been really cool and interesting and a change of pace from Dexter Soy where he was really kind of like ramping up the action which play to Soy strengths and stuff like that. But this has been really cool. Really love this book. And then the last pickup was speaking of the Chip Sedarski Marvel stuff. Weapons of Armageddon the Wolverine issue number four. I have issue number three. Haven't read it. Uh, but have to read that uh and then catch up because I've actually really liked the Chips Darkski stuff. The last issue of Captain America was insane and we only have a couple weeks till Armageddon and you know I've really liked this series because I think what's cool about Chip at Marvel, he seems at home like where his Batman stuff was, you know, good. I think Jorge and Menz and him made a really action-packed run. It's just at Marvel he feels at home the the same way certain writers like Scott Snider feels at home writing Batman. Um, it's just he gets these characters and it doesn't feel like I'm reading Chip Sodarski writing Wolverine. Like this is something I feel like he gets. He's able to kind of like tailor himself to the character he's writing, which is really cool cuz sometimes some writers are like that doesn't sound like Wolverine.
Uh, so this has been really cool. I think what's dope about it too is that it has like a really cool like '9s feel to it in terms of like the big villains, all the adamantium, the metal, all that kind of stuff. Uh, so I really like this book. Uh, but yeah, it was a pretty cool day. Uh, tomorrow, uh, back to work.
Today was my day off, so it was fun. Uh, I had a really cool opportunity. Uh, I'm going to be starting something pretty soon. And, you know, hopefully once things become official, I can announce it and share it with you guys, which is going to be really cool. Uh, and then, you know, just kind of living life. I'm off on Saturday. I'll see what I do then. Uh, maybe get some more comics.
You know, there was one issue that I was like really conflicted about getting.
Uh, so I didn't get Batoman because I'm still behind on that, too. I still I'll probably circle back for that. But the Ultimate, uh, Reborn, Impact, Maximum Drive, whatever it's called. Uh, I was looking at it and I was like, you know, um, no, no. Uh, the cover, the solicits.
I like Chris Condan's Ultimate Wolverine. Uh, I know that might be like controversial to a lot of people, but I like it. I like it. and sort of I fell off the book once they decided that they were going to cancel it uh in the Ultimate Universe and I've been keeping up with the Ultimate like Ultimate Endgame and then also um like the Ultimate. So, we're kind of like winding down everything and nothing about it has sort of made me feel like okay, I want to read Ultimate Impact. At first, I was like, okay, let me kind of like, you know, maybe this is Marvel doing what Marvel does where they'll kind of like, you know, relaunch it with new number ones and stuff like that. But I don't know, just like the covers didn't really speak to me. Uh, and the solicits didn't either. So, uh, even though I did like Ultimate Incursion, which was the Miles Morales sort of like miniseries that was like the first kind of crossover within this new Marvel Ultimate Universe. But yeah, I just it it just felt weird. It felt weird. And hopefully, you know, with Chips Sadarsski and some of the changes that are going on at Marvel, they can kind of like streamline some of that stuff because it just kind of like makes no sense to me even as someone that's reading the Ultimate Universe.
So, uh, that's the one book where I was like, I want it because I like Ultimate, but also Marvel's ending the Ultimate Universe, so why should I care about like, you know, these these boxes and stuff? I I'd imagine that they have something to do with Armageddon and stuff like that, but uh I'm already reading Armageddon. Uh, I not Armageddon, um, Captain America. I'll read Armageddon and I'll read this and I guess I'll figure out the context through that. Um, because yeah, it just wasn't really appealing from the covers and like I said, the solicits. I like Chris Condan. I like their work outside of Marvel. They, you know, they did a great Green Arrow run and stuff. So, maybe I'll circle back on that. But, hope you guys had a great new comic book day. Thank you for waiting on this. I'm sorry that it's super late, but I got home late, so had to put things together and stuff. So, appreciate you all. Uh, let me know what you got and please leave a like, comment, subscribe.
