Friday PM Forecast: Pleasant & breezy, unsettled weekend

[00:00:01][music] >> It is a mostly sunny and slightly breezier day today than yesterday, but it's also a little bit warmer. And we can see what nice conditions we have out there from the Coldwater area. Big American flag waving in the wind and some cumulus clouds visible there, but also plenty of strong shadows and temperatures today, they are running a couple degrees warmer than yesterday.

[00:00:23]And right now Holland is sitting at 70 with a southwest wind at 15 miles an hour. The wind is from the southwest or the south at 15 to 20 miles an hour with occasional higher gusts. This is important because it's starting to pull in warm and more importantly more humid air that we'll be feeling over the weekend here in West Michigan. So while our temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s feel great today, especially compared to how cool it's been lately, most of us are about 2° warmer than yesterday. The lake shore significantly warmer. But this is kind of setting the stage for some more unsettled weather and a big pattern change that's coming this weekend and really continuing into early next week. Yesterday's high pressure is now to our east which is helping us to swing around that wind from the southwest. And then we also have a system down to the southwest as well. This warm front will first lift through followed by the cold front and that's going to be our main system of the weekend and into next week, but it's going to take a little while for it to get here. In the meantime, since high pressure is so close to us, we will stay very comfortable, just a little breezy.

[00:01:22]But if you have anything to do outdoors this evening or you can make an excuse to get outdoors this evening, whether you're just hanging around your neighborhood or you're heading out to the inaugural amphitheater concert, this is probably one of the best days that we've had of the last month. So even by around 7:00 p.m., upper 60s. By 10:00 p.m., low 60s. You probably don't even need a jacket if you're heading out, although it will be a little bit breezy, but we'll have very comfortable weather, great for anything that you choose to do outdoors. Heading into early tomorrow morning, we'll get our first round of rain and storms.

[00:01:53]These will be coming off of Lake Michigan in the very early morning, so you may hear some rumbles of thunder that wake you up, but this will be out of the way pretty quickly, too. Probably by 10:00 a.m. we will be all done with that. And then as this big high pressure sets up shop over first the central and southern plains, and then it makes its way more towards the southeast. Through the weekend we will get increasingly warm and humid temperatures getting pumped in. We're pulling up all of this warm and humid air in both levels of the atmosphere, the surface and the upper levels, and that will also be contributing to pretty high humidity.

[00:02:23]So, it's going to be feeling downright summery out there. After we were so cool and below average, now we are flipping that completely. It will be 80° tomorrow, 82° on Sunday with a high point of the week 86° on Monday. And these are going to be humid days, probably feeling around 5° warmer, so you can definitely plan on needing that air conditioner cuz it is going to be feeling hot out there. Thankfully, it will be pretty quiet through the weekend until we get to Sunday and to Monday, and then that's when this low pressure system will become a bit more of an issue for us. And we do already have a slight risk out for Monday for the possibility of some strong to severe storms. That may extend into Tuesday as well as the front looks like it slowed down a little bit.
