Firefox on Android Just Added 'Shake to Summarize'

[00:00:03]So, Mozilla Firefox has a feature called Shake to Summarize that you can use on your mobile.

[00:00:09]Which Mozilla first launched on iOS back in September of last year.

[00:00:15]And I actually posted a video last year that Firefox's Shake to Summarize got special mention in Time's Best Inventions of 2025.

[00:00:27]Now, since the launch back in September of last year, Mozilla says that it's expanded it to iOS users in German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Japanese.

[00:00:38]And just a quick video to let you know that starting today the 19th of May, 2026, Mozilla has just announced that it's bringing it to Android users in English with more languages coming soon.

[00:00:52]So, basically, how this will all work, Mozilla says, is on any webpage under 5,000 words, just shake your phone and a clean summary will instantly appear.

[00:01:10]Now, Mozilla also says that if you don't want to use Shake to Summarize, if you prefer tapping, you can select Summarize page under more in the three-dot menu.

[00:01:20]Which is nice when we've got options.

[00:01:23]And to keep your data secure, Shake to Summarize, Mozilla says, uses different technology depending on your device.

[00:01:33]So, on iPhone 15 Pro or later, your summary is generated right on your device using Apple intelligence.

[00:01:41]And on all other devices, Mozilla says your text is sent securely to Mozilla's cloud-based AR.

[00:01:48]Which is powered with Mistral Small and AR model carefully selected, they say, for its speed, efficiency, and alignment with an open internet.
