Researchers Built a Drone That Walks and Flies Like a Bird!!

Engineers just created a fixed-wing drone with lightweight mechanical legs inspired by how birds switch between walking and flying. Unlike traditional drones with fixed landing gear that fail on rough terrain, this bird-inspired drone uses mechanical legs that absorb impact on any surface and launch the drone into flight from anywhere — no runway required. The legs enable the drone to navigate rocky terrain, debris fields, and steep slopes that would stop any conventional drone completely. By studying how birds seamlessly use the same body for two completely different environments, researchers copied that dual-function design into metal. This breakthrough could transform search and rescue operations, military reconnaissance, disaster response, and exploration in environments where conventional drones completely fail.
