DMK Attacks VCK, IUML After Joining Vijay Govt, A Raja’s Remark Sparks Row | India Today

[00:00:00]in the state of Tamil ladu itself where jibes are flying thick and fast as the VCK and the IUML join team Vijay DMK's my coconut tree jive at the VCK and the IUML after VCK and IUML MLAS was sworn into Vijay cabinet [music] just a little while back the DMK now comes out with a fresh Jive my coconut tree watering opposite house this is what they have to say this is again a jive being taken at both uh the VCK and uh the IUML MLAs who've been sworn into the TVKE cabinet.

[00:00:35]Anagak are joining me on the broadcast to take us through the context behind this very [music] jive. Anaga give us a little more detail about the remark that's been made by the [music] DMK about uh my coconut tree being watered opposite my house.

[00:00:55]Well, in fact, it's DMK's MPA Raja who has made that controversial statement.

[00:01:00]He stated that what do we call a coconut tree that grows in my own backyard, but then uh it bends over and gives its coconut water to my neighbor in the opposite house. So, he's metaphorically referring to the coconut tree as his alliance partners who grew along with the DMK, the VCK and the IUML. And what he means by the opposite house is the TVK government. So certainly the DMK has not taken this move by the alliance partners quite well the VCK and IUML.

[00:01:29]And the reason why we are still referring to them as alliance partners is because they have not formally broken off. The WCK and IUML are formally a part of TVK government. But what's going to be the future of their uh alliance relationship with DMK? That is still a question mark because they've not yet officially made it open that they they are breaking away from the DMK. So are they still in alliance or are they not?

[00:01:50]That is still a big confusion.

[00:01:52]Thirumalivan is yet to break his silence on that. But he's going to play it very carefully. He's going to play it very tacitly because the VCK and the IUML for them to be relevant in Tamil Nadu politics. They had to have the support of DMK for the longest time and now things have played out to their political convenience and they've joined hands with TVK government. But that again uh it's it will not you know play down too well with Tumavalan to sort of burn bridges with DMK or with Stalin for that matter. So therefore Tuma Walivan is going to play it very very diplomatically. He's going to handle it like a politician when it comes to his relationship with DMK. It still remain to be seen what Thumalivan has to say about that. We will try and catch him today to really uh get a word about the relationship between the WCKML and the DMK.

[00:02:39]Very true, Anagan. And and that's the balancing act we see these parties playing because they've been long-term allies of the DMK. Now, however, they have switched sides to come and support the TVK and form governance. They've been given cabinet births as well.

[00:02:53]There's been a lot of back and forth in terms of discussions uh that's taken place between the TVK and each of these parties. But the DMK is not going to shut up about this entire matter. they will keep provoking one may say uh these parties in terms of the remarks they make because uh they've again and again said especially with regards to the Congress that these are backstabbers who uh just went about with wherever power is and that's that's the same that we see they're doing with these two parties as well.

[00:03:31]Well, that's right and that's why we see that uh the jibes that the DMK is taking at the moment at these alliance partners uh because it's not gone on too well because for all these years these alliance partners uh had to be you know were relevant in Tamil Nadu's politics because of the support that they got from DMK and now they've jumped ships and joined with the TBK government. So that is not really playing down too well with the DMK. the defense that these smaller alliance partners could have is that we've been in Tamil Nadu politics for so long. We've been so unconditional but still we've never got to taste power. So that is why we are right in doing our you know in taking our step.

[00:04:08]We're right in our decision is what the smaller alliance parties would say. Uh but you know but you know but then again when the smaller alliance parties had asked DMK for power sharing they were met with a big no because the Draidian party believes that there is no culture of coalition government in Tamil Nadu.

[00:04:25]So therefore the smaller alliance parties would have sensed that this is the right opportunity for them to taste power for the first time in >> well this election season has definitely seen a lot of firsts when we speak of them but yes Anaga thank you for putting context to those very jibes now the latest in fact being made by the DMK leaders against the TVKled government on that note viewers we're shifting our focus to more stories coming
