Lightning-sparked wildfire continues as railroad bridge still burns near Canyon

[00:00:00]Officials say lightning strikes sparked the fast-moving Hungate fire in Canyon.

[00:00:04]Officials say dry conditions, strong winds helped that fire spread quickly leading to evacuations both outside and within a small portion of the Canyon city limits. And officials say there have been no reported fatalities, but damage assessment still underway this morning. They expect structural loss to be fairly substantial. City leaders say crews are now walking through the area preparing for hot spots expected over the next 24 to 48 hours.

[00:00:38]And so we had a isolated thunderstorm start. And with that we didn't have hardly any moisture, but we had a an array of lightning strikes. Being that we've had no moisture for a long long time, uh those strikes caused most of these fires.

[00:00:55]And so that kind of started everything.

[00:00:57]And ultimately everything just kind of steamrolled from there.

[00:01:02]Price says the railroad trestle bridge west of Canyon remains on fire forcing train traffic to stop along the busy Chicago line as crews monitor the burning wooden structure expected to smolder for the next 36 to 48 hours.
