The speaker argues that while laws were implemented with good intentions, the underlying societal setup remains unchanged. The speaker suggests that parents bear equal responsibility for what happens to their daughters, not just the in-laws.

Mr. Chaudhary, if you look at the trajectory of uh you know, we have had dowry laws with some thought that were very harsh. Uh but, over time uh one really understands on why they were needed. But, why is it that nothing has changed where the societal setup of this country is concerned? Because today one can blame the in-laws, but the parents, I would reckon, have an equal part to play with what has happened.
She was complaining for a month, at least is what we've been given to understand. On her honeymoon a year ago, she told her brother that her husband pushed her. The brother's advice was sometimes men get a little heated.
Look, that is the classic Indian family.
We are brought up, and then we are made to believe that this is the ideal way to live. They believe that initial adjustments in a marriage take a little time. We believe that maybe our own girl has exaggerated the truth. Maybe the bills haven't yet been finished paying, and then she wants to come back home.
This is the liability of being a daughter in this country.
This is the liability. We don't We can't believe it. We can't believe that the choice made by the girl herself can be so horribly wrong.
And parents do not have the language do not I'm not not defending them, but I've met with so many parents. I'm a parent myself. I make mistakes myself. Where we actually believe that, okay, our daughters are maybe uh they're go they're going to adjust to maybe this is just initial problems because that's what we all faced as when we were first newly married, and we couldn't believe that our sister-in-laws will have sister-in-laws will have the right to yell at us or or manipulate or come and sit in the house from morning to evening.
So, these things happen.
