Mendoza masterfully deconstructs complex polyrhythmic structures into logical fragments, bridging the gap between raw virtuosity and systematic pedagogy. It is a precise blueprint for turning intimidating speed into disciplined, musical muscle memory.

[music] >> Hey, what's going on everybody? In today's lesson, I'm going to show you the six-tuple of groove that everybody's been asking me about. Essentially, which is fitting six notes per pulse. So, one triplet and triplet two triplet and triplet three triplet and triplet four triplet and triplet. And that pulse is going to remain the same throughout the whole groove. I'm going to break the groove down in small fragments, that way it's a little bit more digestible. All right, so here's the first fragment and notice that I'll end on the left hand.
>> [music] >> All right, so now we're just going to add two right hands after that.
Something like this. Three and four and >> [music] >> All right, now our next fragment is just right left left kick right left left kick, but I'm going to add a left hand at the end to kind of give us the downbeat of four. Something like this.
>> [music] [music] >> All right, so now let's put all those fragments together and notice that we'll end on beat four.
>> [music] [music] >> And our final fragment is left right right left right left. Notice the first note is accented.
>> [music] >> All right, so now let's put all those fragments together and you'll notice this is our core groove so far. One >> [music] >> two three four >> [music] [music] >> All right, so now that you have that, which is to me the hardest part, the next part is just to move it around the kit and have fun. And this is the voicing that I used in the video.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> All right, and the final step is to apply this to music. I'm going to use Shed Tracks today. I usually use Shed Tracks or Epidemic Sound. All that information is in the description box.
All right, let's hear it in the music application. [music] >> [music] [music] [music] [music]
