Most NFL teams have a clear plan for their quarterback situation for the next three years. The Steelers are one of the few teams without a clear plan, as they have Aaron Rodgers for this year, Will Howard as a lower-ceiling option, and Drew Aller as a high-ceiling prospect. This uncertainty makes it difficult for fans and analysts to predict the team's future.

This is Shawn Myers with your fan headlines. Big news for the Pittsburgh Steelers as yesterday the word broke that Aaron Rodgers is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Black and Gold. Base salary between 22 and 23 million. It could pay up to$25 million with incentives. Pittsburgh Pirates suffered a shutout loss on Saturday, 6 nothing at home against the Philadelphia Phillies. Christopher Sanchez was stellar. Complete game shut out giving up just six hits with 13 strikeouts.
Bubba Chandler took the loss. He sputtered going three innings giving up three hits and four earned runs. It should be an outstanding matchup today between the Phils and the Pirates at 135. Zack Wheeler against Paul Skins.

>> Keeping you up to date even on the weekend. Did you hear that?
>> Sports Radio 937 The FanD Pittsburgh's hometown sports station.
>> It wouldn't be a press conference if we didn't ask you about Aaron Rogers. Is there any update on the possibility of adding a fourth to that before you guys come back before May 18th?
>> I mean, three quarterbacks is is the normal. Uh four would be awesome. So, >> wouldn't it be great if he did show up this weekend and just like hanging out at somebody's party? I don't I don't know. I'm just spitballing here. Say he's going to Cam Hayward's party. I don't know if Cam Hayward's having a party. Whatever. And uh he meanwhile, he just didn't take a stroll over to the southside.
Um, close, I think. Right, for Kaboom.
No, he wasn't at somebody's house.
No, he wasn't at the Southside facility with photographers and news stations camped outside the Steelers property waiting to capture photos of him.
He was with some of his buddies.
The music stopped abruptly, Sean.
>> Sorry.
>> I thought you were thought this was a very important >> I mean, it is very important. You could have like faded it out a little bit.
There you go. And then fade it.
>> Very gently.
>> That is a fade, man. Yes. Good for you.
>> Thank you.
>> Good morning to you.
>> Morning.
>> How are we?
>> Sitting pretty. How about you?
I can't complain.
>> You get the honor.
>> How about this?
>> The absolute honor.
>> How about this? You >> know, everyone was too drunk apparently last night to come in.
>> Yep.
>> But now you're the first on our airwaves locally to react to this story.
>> So admittedly, I I >> Andy Lindberg gets partial credit.
>> Yeah. Shout out to Andy, our web guy. He was on it from a social media standpoint. What time did this happen?
>> Cuz I slept. Oh, I think it was after 8:00 maybe.
>> So, everybody might have been too drunk last night. Um, me being too drunk Friday night played into why I had to wake up from a late afternoon, early evening nap to the news.
Was out way late on Friday. Uh, had to work a full shift Saturday. And by the time I was done working Saturday, I was like, I can't. I I had to go home, shower, and I crawled in bed and crashed and woke up to two things. Uh number one, Christopher Sanchez doing what he did against the Pirates. Nice to know that uh a really good starting pitcher can throw a complete game, complete nine innings in a baseball game that the Pirates are involved in. Um wish that could be Paul SK every now and again.
Maybe it is today. So I woke up to that and then of course the big one, the big news and I always can tell because you know you you subscribe to the Rapaorts and the Chevfters and the DACAs locally and all that stuff like I I subscribe to their Twitter notifications and that's how you are able to really find out the breaking news if you're on your phone when it's happened.
I when I woke up, I found my phone and the messages icon had over a couple hundred messages. So, I'm like, uhoh, the group chat blew up about something.
And then you do some investigating and Aaron Rogers is coming back for a lot more money than I thought it would be.
And the dollar figure to me doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
The timing, it's not that the timing of this doesn't make sense either. I think a lot of us are just surprised by the timing.
But I am surprised by the dollar figure.
You could say the dollar figure makes a whole lot of sense.
Sense.
>> Oh, I was going to say I was going over my head. Poor joke. Poor dad joke.
You're suspended.
One year, 25 million up to$25 million with incentives.
I believe the guaranteed figure is 22 million. Uh, but Aaron Rogers is back.
Aaron Rodgers is going to be the Steelers quarterback in 2026. something that we all thought was going to be the case, something that very few thought would happen before mandatory mini camp, myself included. Uh, if you're unfamiliar with who I am, my name is Jack Hillgrove. Happy to be with you on a Sunday morning, May 17, 2026.
Usually on these Sunday morning shows, we're reacting to the Pirates game the day prior. We're looking ahead to the Pirates game Sunday afternoon. We're going to do that still. Uh we're going to do that with Colin Beasley at the top of the 9:00 hour. And we're also going to get into our Sunday same game parlay, which we do every Sunday in the second to last segment of the show. That is all on tap. But the biggest news of the day and what we we will be focusing our time on this morning is that Aaron Rogers is back one year up to $25 million. And I'm going to open up the phone lines right away.
4129289370.
Your first chance to react to it as well. Sean said it off the top. Sean Myers, what an honor I have to be the first host this weekend to react to the news that Aaron Rogers is back and you get to react to it as well at 412928 9370. Did you want this? Are you pissed by this?
And as far as the details of it all go, what did you make of the dollar, the reported dollar figure? What did you make of the timing of all of this as well? 412928 9370. I'll start with the timing and I think I'm surprised and I think a lot of people are surprised that it's before OTAAS begins because Aaron Rogers has been incredibly outspoken in the latter half of his career what he thinks of the NFL offseason program. Doesn't think too highly of it.
Thinks at times it's unnecessary.
and was it his second to last year or I'm sorry it would have been his last year second of two years I should say in New York he had that unexcused absence from Jets OTAAS now OTAAS are optional hence the name mandatory mini camp because if you're you know under contract with an NFL team you've got to be at mandatory mini camp and in the past mandatory mini camp was after 10 Steelers OTAAS. That's just the way uh that Mike Tomlin structured the calendar. 10 OTAAS, mini camp, several weeks of a break, and then it's to St. Vincent College we go.
Little bit different for Mike McCarthy's offseason program. It's going to be six sessions of OTAAS, three days of mandatory mini camp June 2d, 3rd, and 4th. And then they wrap up with four OTAAS following mandatory mini camp and then it's training camp.
And since mini camp is mandatory, I think we all kind of thought that the Aaron Rogers decision and him showing up in Pittsburgh would take place before mandatory mini camp, which is why June 2nd made a lot of sense to me. and and I I don't really think there's much difference between now and June 2nd. I'm sure tomorrow afternoon or tomorrow evening if given the opportunity the local media will ask Rogers, well why now versus when you showed up last year almost a month later because mandatory mini camp last year was I don't remember the exact dates but it was during the US Open at Oakmont.
So, this is pretty much a month earlier than we got Aaron Rodgers last year.
Why now?
And why come back to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2026 altogether? The question that I am most curious to hear if we get an answer is kind of a two-parter.
Number one, how close were you to retirement? And did the fact that the Steelers gave him close to a 1015 million raise in 2026, did that kind of rip the band-aid off and decide for you to come back?
And number two, like if the Steelers would have hired anybody else to be their head coach, would you be standing here right now?
I think the answer to the second question is without a doubt.
Like if the Steelers would have hired Chris Schula or Nate Sheel House or who else got virtual interviews? I mean, not not even virtual interviews, right?
The the the >> They talked to was it Weaver?
>> Yeah.
If we're going to go by who the if the finalists were to McCarthy, the other two that got in-person interviews was Anthony Weaver and Brian Flores. Like if they would have hired either one of those guys, would Rogers be back? I I would venture to guess probably not. And rightfully so. No familiarity really with either one of those guys, with really anybody else on the head coaching candidates list that we reportedly received.
And Rogers was so outspoken last year about the fact, yeah, I'm here because I think very highly of Mike Tomlin and rightfully so. A lot of free agents over the years wanted to play for coach Tomlin. They did come to Pittsburgh to play for coach Tomlin. That's why Rogers was here. Coach Tomlin steps down. It's like, okay, well, that definitely changes some things. I believe might have been Ian Rapaort, who was the first NFL insider to report it either the day of or the day after Tomlin resigned as Steelers head coach.
Yeah. Report per sources, Aaron Rogers is unlikely to come back next season because Mike Tomlin's gone.
And of course, the game changed entirely when the Steelers hired Mike McCarthy to be their next head coach.
So, would Aaron Rogers be here if they signed or hired anybody else? That's the the question I want to hear the answer to most.
And then that first question that I posed about the money traditionally, you don't really ask about dollar figures and things of that nature in press conferences.
But the question I would love to ask Omar Han, what did Aaron Rogers do last year to earn a $10 million raise.
Yeah, not that big of a deal because the Steelers had enough cap space. They're not paying a franchise quarterback. That's why they have enough cap space. It's only for this year. I think for all intents and purposes, this is it's safe to say that this is going to be Aaron Rogers's last season in the NFL. He'll be 43 by the end of the regular season. So yeah, no harm, no foul because the Steelers had the cap space. They have some left over. enough wiggle room going into, you know, training camp with like five, six million bucks left over in the salary cap with 20 plus million dollars going Aaron Rodgers' way, but it's a $10 million race for a quarterback that led you to 10 and seven and an ass whooping again in the wildard round of the playoffs.
Why give him a $10 million raise? What about last season says, "Yep, $10 million raise." Again, I understand it.
They had it available to them. It's essentially a one-off because it's a one-year deal and they have salary cap money left over. And I'm not saying that if it would have been copy paste contract from 25 to 26 and they would have, you know, significantly more salary cap left over that that would create the difference essentially of, you know, something they can do in the offseason, help this team get better. I'm not saying that. I'm just saying that the principle of Aaron Rodgers willing this team to just 10 and seven, getting this team to the playoffs and getting them killed in the playoffs at home by a really good defense. And that really good young defense showed you how old Aaron Rodgers was and showed you those true colors in that wild card playoff game.
May I speculate something, Jack?
>> I suppose so. Okay. I actually Yeah, you go ahead and do that because I have not pulled the YouTube >> stream up and I was anxious to see the chatters.
>> I think there's two interesting aspects about this. One, you said they have the money now. It's probably not going to prevent them from making any big splash signings this off season, which seemed unlikely from here on out. But that stuff does matter in the future because you can roll over cap, but you could also change how guys are paid, restructure so that maybe you if you have extra room now, you could frontload some of that and then have more cap space in future seasons. So, it does matter in some regard, but I'm almost guaranteeing that the answer about why he got a raise is that they had him at such a bargain last year and now they're just paying him comate with what starting quarterbacks make and it's still on the cheaper side. So, they would say last year was the aberration.
Last year was the outlier where they got him for such an absolute bargain and this year's more in line with what starting quarterbacks of his ilk should be getting.
>> Yeah. Think about the Pat McAfee interview that he did last off season.
Pittsburgh was speculated by this point, but it was not official. I believe the exact quote was, "I'll play for 10 M."
Rogers did not care about the money a year ago and said all along, it's about finding somewhere where he can go and finish his career off on the right foot, on the right note.
Is it maybe a Cam Hayward situation where Rogers said, "Hey, I'll play for cheap this year, but if things go well and I come back, I'm not doing that a second time." could be. I mean, at times it was some of the best quarterback play the Steelers have had. And for the folks on hold, we're going to get to you in a matter of moments here at 4129289370.
So, stick with us. It was some of the best quarterback play that they've had since probably 2018 before Ben's arm injury.
So, yeah, maybe the play itself did warrant a raise.
But the principle of a $10 million raise to a guy that got you exactly what everybody thought that he'd get you and didn't necessarily exceed expectations doesn't make a whole lot of sense today.
Again, that's just the on paper sheer concept of what Aaron Rogers made last year versus what he's going to make this year in Pittsburgh.
But they have the cap space available to them. It's still undermarket value, really under market value for a starting quarterback in the NFL. And at this point, it just is what it is. So I asked you at 4129289370, your gut reaction to the news, were you surprised that it happened before mandatory mini camp? Were you surprised by the timing of it? Were you surprised by the dollar figure? Uh, were you surprised to see him out with Ben Skironic and uh Pat Frier Muth and Mason Rudolph getting ice cream? I I I didn't know that Aaron Rogers had ice cream in his uh diet.
Nonetheless, did any of this surprise you? 4129289370.
The phone lines are open all morning long. We'll start with Kevin who's first up as the first caller into the station with Aaron Rogers officially back with the Steelers in 2026. What's up, Kevin?
Hey guys, how's it going?
>> Good, man.
>> H well, you covered most of the bases that I was going to touch on. Uh but I'll go ahead and uh say them anyway. Uh yeah, the the money way too much. It seems like uh paying paying him more than Kurt Cousins really doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Is he really gonna I'm Is it arrogance that makes him think that he's worth more than that? Uh >> I mean, if we're going to compare Kirk Cousins's career to Aaron Rogers career, yeah, it makes sense that he's worth a hell of a lot more than Kirk Cousins.
That's not really much up uh for debate.
>> Uh agreed. Uh uh entire career, I would say yes, that's absolutely true. Rogers has a Super Bowl victory. However, it was 16 seasons ago. Um, I I don't know.
I haven't really seen a whole lot from Aaron Rogers lately with the Jets or his last couple of years with the Packers or last year with us that makes me want to pay him 22 plus incentives. Now, I I'm nitpicking a little bit about the money.
I suppose if if it were say 17 and he had an opportunity with incentives to make a little more than 20 maybe it'd be a little bit more palatable but you know >> yeah Kevin and thanks for the call man I appreciate it I do want to get to because we've got several other people on hold >> it doesn't matter because the Steelers have the cap space I'm not going to really sit here and harp on the fact that he's making you know $10 million at least more than he made last year because the Steelers have it available to them and it's still undervalue for a fr or not a franchise but a starting quarterback in the NFL. Again, the concept of the of the Rays and the concept of him making more than he did last year after another 10- win season and getting blown out in the wildard playoffs, wild card round doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. And as far as making more than Kurt Cousins does, you know, on the just the what have you done for me lately standpoint, Cousins, he didn't play a full season last year. He only had 1,700 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and a 61% completion percentage. Uh Rogers 24 touchdowns, 60 close to 66 if you round up passer rating was 94.8 to 84.8. So yeah, I mean him making more money than Kirk Cousins in 26 makes a lot of sense based off of, you know, just the statistics of last year. Anthony in Oakland, what's up, Anthony? What do you make of this?
>> Well, being a part of a union for 45 years, I know that the union did not like the fact that he took less money as a quarterback. It messes up their salary structure. His agent probably didn't like it. So, he was going to have to get a raise. My problem is I've never seen an owner sabotage his own team as as um Mr. Rooney has done because I I can't for one second believe that Art Rooney I mean that um McCarthy looked at the video that we saw last year especially that Cleveland game was all I needed to see.
>> Yep.
>> Uh >> the second one >> and say yeah the second one was just gone. I mean they if they win that game that Baltimore game was would have been meaningless and maybe they' have been more arrested for the onslaught of Houston. But regardless of that, he's not very good people. And when he played the good teams, they proved it to us. So why Mr. Rooney would want to sabotage his own team instead of allowing McCarthy to say, "Listen, I want to go with a young quarterback because we're going, Mr. Rooney, we'll be in the same situation next year. We'll be So why can't we just do it a year earlier and and get these guys prepared? And if they're not ready, then we'll get one next year."
>> But Mr. Rooney who doesn't want to hear that.
>> Bingo. And and and and I'm glad that you brought that up, Anthony, and thanks for the call. Always appreciate talking to you. Somebody brought this up and I agree with it.
Maybe from a just a a sheer selfish standpoint, Art Rooney does not want to see this team tank. A lot of people think that that is the the easiest path and really the path most traveled, you know, for for the entire league as far as the path to finding your next quarterback goes.
Suck. Have a high draft pick. You go from there.
The Steelers don't want to do that. Art Rooney said it in the press conference following Mike Tomlin's departure.
But maybe from a again a sheer selfish aspect of this whole thing, Art Rooney does not want to tank because he has been the owner and the, you know, team president for a hell of a lot longer than he will be the team president in the future.
I don't know if he wants to, you know, be as involved as he is right now until, you know, the good Lord comes to Colin.
I would venture to guess he probably would like to retire at some point and then hand it off to his son. But until that moment, again, Art Rooney has been the team president for a lot longer than he will be in the future. Maybe because he knows he doesn't have that many seasons left, he doesn't want to see this team stink on his watch. And I get that.
But the the principle and and and the idea that this team can just almost in an off season fix their quarterback problems if they just were okay with six and 11 or five and 12.
That's what's frustrating about it all.
And it also begs the question like, let's say young Dan Rooney was already in charge of the team. I believe he's in his 40s.
You're going to be a lot more accepting to a year, maybe two or three. It may be several bad seasons as the president and chairman of the team when you're going to be the president and chairman of the team for a lot longer in the future than you've had behind you. And that's not the case for Art II. 412928 9370.
Aaron Rogers is back. Your thoughts?
We're going extra long in this first segment to try and fit you guys in.
Let's go to Dave in Newcastle. Hey Dave.
>> Hey, what's up? So, I I think uh really to look at this, you kind of going to do like a thought exercise here. Um there's only a few things that matter. One, is he going to win you a Super Bowl?
>> No.
>> That that's really it. Because if not, what what are we doing? Unless he gets deep into the playoffs and then it would only matter if he comes back next year, >> right?
>> Okay. So, then if not, is he is he going to help develop one of your young quarterbacks? But for that to matter, you have to know that you have one of your one of the guys on the team is is it. So I if if it's not one of those two things, what are we doing except for wasting time?
>> Yeah. And as as far as developing goes, I mean, Will Howard, Dave, thanks for the call, has been very outspoken on how great Aaron Rogers was to play behind and and and kind of look up to, I believe. and one of the podcasts, excuse me, podcast or interview, I forget what it was, but I remember Will Howard saying, "I remember Aaron coming in saying, "What can I do for you?" So Aaron Rogers is seemingly, you know, willing to help along Will Howard. It happened last year, and I would venture to guess that he'll be okay with doing it again. And and plus for Drew Aller this season as well, at least a lot more willing and welcoming and teaching of a young quarterback than Ben Rothllessberger was when they drafted Mason Rudolph. And we're going to talk about Mason Rudolph in this whole equation here in a moment.
But that doesn't make you better in 2026.
Aaron Rogers is not going to win you a Super Bowl. Aaron Rogers does not move the needle. And again, I I was on Thursday night after the schedule came out and I didn't want to break it down game by game because a lot can change. I mean, like, think about it this way. The schedule came out and everybody's like, "Oh, what are you doing talking about all these games? We don't even know who the quarterback is." Well, the schedule came out two days ago and now we already know who the quarterback's going to be. I'm not going to look at this game by game, but I'm going to tell you this on a nutshell. From a sheer, you know, overlooking point of view, there isn't a game on this schedule that I thought that they would maybe not stand that much of a chance in without Aaron Rodgers versus with Aaron Rodgers. Now, like Denver on Black Friday for an example, right?
I don't feel necessarily great about the Steelers chances to win that game, especially if Bo Knicks is healthy.
I don't feel better about it now that Aaron Rogers is the quarterback because Denver still has a really good defense.
He makes you better in the most slightly way possible.
But again, there isn't a game that I look at on this part of the schedule on this schedule where I say, "Yeah, you know what?
Without Rogers, I don't know. With Rogers, yeah, it moves the needle. It's not like this moves the needle from 8 and N to 11 or 12 wins and then by default not making them a Super Bowl contender." Fan Twitter brought to you by South Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Route 19 in Peters Township.
Steve is in the car now. Oh, he's on the fan. Hey, Steve.
>> Hey, good morning. How you guys doing?
>> Good, man.
>> So, just a couple of things here with Rogers. First, I guess I'll get my joke out of the way. I sure hope Rogers bought Mason Rudolph some ice cream because he's clearly the odd man out here.
>> Oh, absolutely he is.
>> Um, as far as the signing, the money aspect, I'm not bothered at all by it. I mean, he is kind of in line now, but also still under where most quarterbacks are making. So, I have no no problem with that. We had it. We used it. Not a big deal. I'm more so confused as to what the point was the what was the point of the UFA uh free agent thing that they put on them because I would have just put them up a little over I think I saw like 15 to 16 million.
>> Yeah. That that that tender >> did they like did they leverage themselves?
>> No, because like I mean if you think about it like if if it that tender only guaranteed like the the 10% raise to like just over 15 million a year. So he Rogers was still able to get, you know, five plus million potentially up to $10 million more than what that tender guaranteed. I think that tender was more about maybe he might go to Arizona. And I think they they did that because of how unpredictable of a character Aaron Rogers is. Him going to the Cardinals would have made no sense. But that was that that was flo that was floated out there as potentially a possibility because you know the the the head coach is brother the new head coach in Arizona's brother is somebody he used to play for and Nathaniel Hackett is the Cardinals offensive coordinator. Rogers played for him as well. It was more about well what if he goes somewhere else? What if he goes to Arizona?
Because then Steve they would have been able to get a calm pick. I don't think they leveraged against themselves because it only like he still got, you know, more significantly more money than what the tender guaranteed.
>> Makes sense. I appreciate it. Thank you.
>> Yeah, you got it, brother. 412928 9370. Mike's up next. Hey, Mike.
>> Hey, how you doing? I was calling because I actually I don't have no problem with how much they pay uh Aaron Rodgers. Um, I think that he's I don't have no Super Bowl expectations with Aaron Rogers as a quarterback, but I do have expectations that Mike McCarthy is going to groom one of these young quarterbacks that they drafted. And eventually they do. I think if they if he groom them the right way and they step into the team that we has, then I mean that saves us a first round draft pick of drafting another quarterback next year and then we can use that somewhere else if we're still in the middle of the pack, which that's what they're going to do. Another thing too, I feel like Ort Rooney don't want to give up because think about it, his dad won Super Bowls, his brother won Super Bowls, >> and like I said, >> he wants to win the Super Bowl >> and he's on the back nine of his, you know, Steelers, >> right? He's like not trying to give it up. I mean, it's that might be time to give it up for him and might need a fresh voice in that part of the uh organization.
>> Yeah, absolutely, Mike. You hit the nail on the head. Thanks for the call. Yeah, I again I when you boil it down, I don't really have a problem with how much Aaron Rogers is making either because the Steelers have this cap. They had the cap space to be able to do it and it's still like almost pretty much half of what really good franchise quarterbacks in the NFL make. So Rogers is under market value and in the cap, but the principle of getting a $10 million raise for mediocrity is is just what bothers me.
4129289370.
Let's go to Buzz in Freeport. Hey, Buzz.
>> Hey, how you doing? Love the show.
>> Thanks, man.
Yeah, I'm I'm like completely I mean I don't I don't mind uh the money either, but I'm completely against uh you know wasting another year of mediocrity. Nine and eight, drafting 21st, not getting the franchise quarterback.
And I completely disagree with the caller about developing Aller or Howard because how many snaps are they going to get? How how often you going to see him?
You might >> Well, Buzz, that's more about that's more about Will Howard than it is Drew Aller. It didn't matter who the starting quarterback was going to be for the Steelers this season. Aller's not going to play. They are stripping him down to bare parts and rebuilding him. And they're basically admitting, you know, that he was not built the right way in college. And that's, you know, it is what it is. But that's what they're doing with Drew Aller. He was not going to play uh at all this season. But but it applies Yeah, that's where I was going. It applies to Will Howard. And you know, I'm of the opinion that I don't think it's particularly going to work out for Will Howard at the big level, but you you're on the record saying how much you like him. They're very much on the record with how highly they think of Will Howard. Mike Tomlin was and now Mike McCarthy is. And that's obviously the more, you know, important opinion. So, let him play. But he's not going to have enough runway for you to figure out if there's something there.
>> Yeah. Not not only that, I'm with you with the the extra 10 million for mediocrity, you know, is I mean they they have a lot of players to pay. They got to pay Porter Herbic.
>> Yeah. And I don't think any of that's going to that's that's not going to affect it because that's for this year and and and they do have more guys to pay.
But would it have been a situation where they sweeten the pot for one of those guys on the 2025 or the 2026 salary plus an extension? I don't know. But I don't think them signing Aaron Rogers to the deal they did is going to prevent them from signing any of these guys.
And they should probably sign a lot of them that need it to long-term deals.

Action-packed Sunday.
Rogers is back. Bucks look to avoid the sweep. And the final round of the PGA Championship in store. Alex Smallley is minus 6. A bunch of guys are minus4.
Aaron Ray, Nick Taylor, Manny Schmid, I believe is how you pronounce that fella's name. Uh John Rom and Ludvig Oberg are minus4.

Aaron Rogers, Steelers quarterback.
in 2026.
I love how the second biggest story out of him getting ice cream with Rudolph and Scoronic and Frymouth was the fact that the ice cream establishment that they were at had pumpkin ice cream already on the menu.
People were up in arms about it.
>> Yeah, I saw Shelby Cassessi was all over that one.
>> Who cares?
Well, I think there was speculation for those who may be into conspiracies that that was not a current photo. I think that's why they were wondering, was it from last year?
>> Mhm.
>> M.
>> Now it's all making sense, isn't it?
>> I doubt it, though. That's a a valid point, though, because >> Well, first off, with AI, >> Yeah.
>> you can make anything look real.
It's with each passing day, it's harder and harder to distinguish what is real.
So, someone could have fudged that photo anyway instead of just using an old one if that was the the theory out there, right? But like pumpkin ice cream's available in the fall.
Those guys are going to eat pumpkin ice cream during their season.
And but like by the way like when pumpkin ice cream hits most menus like he's in Rogers in shorts F moves to the short sleeve t-shirt like this was last night.
I appreciate the the tinfoil hat effort but I mean he was in town.
He was in town when Dorne and Crowley said exactly he would be.
>> Shout out to those guys and Callus too.
You're right. A lot of people think Callus was the one who really was steering that entire story. He was the he was the brains for that.
>> Good for him if that's the case. We'll never know.
>> Donovan in Lwood City has been very very patient. He's first up this segment.
Aaron Rogers back in 2026. Donovan in Lwood City. How do you feel about it?
I I I knew he was going to get some sort of raise, but I don't feel like the raise that he got was justified with how poorly he did in the playoff game against the Houston Texans. And like he and I'm also just sick and tired of the drama he comes with of making us wait and wait and wait cuz if he would have just told us up front he was going to be back, we could have used the pick for Drew Aller on someone else. You know what I or even trade it up for the quarterback from Alabama instead of him going to the Rams, you know.
>> Well, I I would I disagree. I I would have hated for them to do that, Donovan.
Thanks for the call. I mean, them selecting Drew Aller in the third round on the surface is fine.
Uh Tai Simpson even was a guy that wasn't going to sit or wasn't going to play right away either. It's why the Rams took him and he's going to sit behind Matt Stafford for a year. Like again, at the end of the day, Aaron Rogers is still 43 years old and and the fact that they drafted a quarterback, you know, two years ago and Will Howard and a month ago and Drew Aller doesn't change the fact that they could potentially be the franchise quarterback next, you know, of the Steelers, the next one up.
It's not like the Steelers signed a guy that's, you know, in his mid30s and it was to a multi-year deal.
>> Even then, we saw with Atlanta, if you draft a quarterback, even when you're paying someone a lot of money who's a proven veteran, you still ultimately, I think, want that younger player to thrive and prove that they're the guy and that they're good enough that you have to play them anyway.
>> Yeah. And it just kind of worked out for Penn to get that opportunity because Kurt Cousins, >> I mean, it happened in Seattle when Russell Wilson became the guy, right?
They had just Was it Flynn or who was it that they >> Russ won that job out of camp, >> right? Against a guy who they were paying money, >> Matt Flynn, >> who was I mean, not a proven veteran, but who came in as a free agent, much more experienced. I think the thought was he was going to be the guy, but you always hope that it's that young guy who grabs that job eventually, even if you are paying someone pretty good money.
>> Yeah. And and the fact that Rogers is here in 2026 doesn't change that Will Howard could potentially do that. Don't think he's going to, but that's it's not going to prevent him uh from happening.
Let's go to Bill. Hey, Bill.
>> Uh my concerns are not about ice cream or drew a lure. It's concern is that all >> those guys sit in a room McCarthy Omar Khan and and they put up last year's tape of Malik Willis and they put up Aaron Rogers and they come out of the room and saying you know what moving forward I think Rogers for 25 million is better than Willis for 30 and then we're going to waste a third round pick on Aller and then we're going to say ah then we're actually going to make a a true statement they won't come out and say but they're saying that Howard and Rudolph are very mid and are impossible to think that we could have a winning season with with these two guys. That's what I get from the whole scenario.
>> Well, and we haven't talked about this yet. I I think Mason Rudolph is without a doubt the odd man out here. They're going to try and trade him or if they can't trade him, uh, they're going to cut him. The three quarterbacks that will be on the 53man roster, I think we can all see the writing on the wall is Aller, Howard, and obviously now Aaron Rogers. Um, you know, as far as wasting a third round pick goes on Drew Aller, I understand where you where people come down on that, but like him being selected by the Steelers, you know, it's not the end of the world.
He's a guy that has protype tools, protype size, and needs a a quarterback developing coaching staff and a and a coach centered around that to be able to succeed in the NFL. They're doing exactly what Drew All they should be doing with Drew Aller in the NFL. It's stripping him down to bare parts in building him back up. The only problem I have with Drew Aller is that I don't think mentally he's capable of being a quarterback in the NFL. But it's the size, it's the arm, and it's the fact that Mike McCarthy, you know, I've got more faith in Mike McCarthy being able to do it than, you know, Matt Canada and Mike Tomlin with Kenny Picket without a doubt.
>> So you'd rather have two Aller than Malik Willis. Is that what you're saying?
>> I'd rather let me put it to you this way, Bill. Malik Willis for first of all did not have enough of a sample size to prove that he was the Steelers should have given him more money than Aaron Rogers got in for multiple years. What happens if Malik Willis stinks and you have to pay him, you know, a ridiculous cap hit to get rid of him like the Broncos did for Russell Wilson or like the uh Raiders did um or I'm sorry, the Falcons did with Kurt Cousins. I don't want the Steelers to have to do that.
Well, >> you're nuts if you think Rogers is is is a less gamble than Malik Willis.
>> He absolutely is a less gamble. It's a one-year deal. And honestly, look, Bill, I'm not going to really get on you for thinking Malik Willis is a better quarterback than Aaron Rogers. He might be. He's younger and more mobile.
>> Might be.
>> Bill, Bill, you're talking about Malik the games last year.
>> I did, Bill. And you're acting like Malik Willis is like the second coming of Michael Vic in his prime. He's not.
Aaron Rogers prime is >> You want to make a bet, Bill? You want to make a bet, Bill? I will bet you a lot of money that Malik Willis will not be the starting quarterback in Miami in 2027. He's going to fizzle out. That's what I think of Malik Willis. All right.
Well, >> I guarantee I can guarantee Rogers won't be the starting quarterback in 2027 in Pittsburgh.
>> All right. Low hanging fruit. He's 43 years old. Bill, come on. No, man. Did I not think that Malik I I I didn't think that discussion was up for the for grabs this morning.
Yeah, Malik Willis might be better than Rogers in 2026. He might be. He's more mos younger, but let's not sit here and act like Malik Willis was the second coming again of Mike Vic in his prime or the next version of Russell Wilson in his prime.
Come on.
for the same reason we were talking about Matt Flynn having a a a sample size as a backup quarterback that got him a contract in a starting job in Seattle. Didn't even have an opportunity to prove it because Russ beat him out. And if Russ wasn't there in Seattle and Matt Flynn was the quarterback in like 2011, Matt Flynn probably would have showed you that he wasn't good enough to be the long-term answer in Seattle cuz he wasn't. Russell Wilson was able to beat him out without playing a down of regular season football in the NFL.
It's happened time and time and time again.
And to sit here and suggest that Malik Willis is some godsend at quarterback is just an asinine take at 8:00 in the morning on a Sunday. Let's go to Brad and Punksatonyi. Hey Brad.
>> Good morning. Thank you for taking my call.
>> You're welcome. Um, I'm not I'm not looking at any other quarterbacks other than the fact that we are now going through another year of not knowing what we have behind a 43y old quarterback. We're going to, let's say for the sake of argument, we go 9 and 8 or 10 and seven, get smacked in the first round of the playoffs, then the draft comes next year. We don't know what we have. We probably have to draft another quarterback. I I just don't know. I don't know what the Steelers long-term vision is. I I 10 years ago, seven years ago, Aaron Rodgers would have been phenomenal. Even in like 2021 when those rumors first started, Brad, remember when they played at Green Bay and the whole him and Mike Tomlin having a moment on the field, the broadcast captured it cuz that was still like an that was a a late 30s, early 40s Aaron Rogers, but it was still of MVP Aaron Rogers. Like it I would even go as far as saying that 2021 it would have, you know, Yeah, absolutely.
And it's like now I mean we we got the sample last year that you know he's a great quarterback that is on the downward slide and we we hung on for whatever it was 20 or 25 million. I mean I just I don't know what the Steelers vision is and it's just we're >> Brad the Steel the Steelers vision I mean you do know what it is Brad. Thanks for the call. I appreciate it. You just don't think it makes a whole lot of sense. Like I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense. Like a lot of people don't think it makes a whole lot of sense. The Pittsburgh Steelers believe they are a Super Bowl contending team.
They have a Super Bowl contending roster and they believe that Aaron Rogers gives them the best opportunity to win the division and make a run in the playoffs.
But the fan base and a lot of people that sit behind this microphone don't believe that's the case.
>> If and I would venture to guess that the people that respectfully disagree that Aaron Rogers does not make this team a Super Bowl contender and and that the vision, you know, that the fans have versus the vision that the organization has is completely off base.
I mean, that's I think that's the correct opinion to have.
>> I I think the argument I'll kind of extrapolate where that last caller was going.
>> So, this is going to be we all believe Rogers last year, at least with the Steelers. Fair to say >> a lot of people said that last year. I mean, yes, it makes more sense now than it did last year because he's a year older, but like >> I don't know.
>> Wait, see? Sure. Well, we'll go with the idea that it is. They're trying to contend this year when most people outside of that organization don't think that they're real contenders.
So, can you really believe that they're going to play either Howard or Aller in 2027 if their goal every year is to be a contender? Or would they go with another stop gap? Are they going to do what the Colts did for 5 years or they bring in a new guy, a veteran guy who's never going to be the true long-term answer?
Because unless they see something this year from one of those guys that leads them to believe definitively that this guy is the next one up, why do we think we'll turn the keys over to either one of them in 2027 and then go completely against the grain of their mentality of trying to contend every single year?
>> Right.
It's I mean it is it is about as frustrating as a concept and a frustrating situation to follow as as you can possibly imagine.
And I understand like again you want your teams to win and play well consistently and the Steelers have won more games than they've lost on a very consistent basis for a very long time.
But Sean, you brought up the Indianapolis Colts like they they are the Colts. I believe the Colts had six different week one starting quarterbacks in six consecutive years. Let's go back to 2021.
Ben, then Trabiscy, then Picket, then Fields, then Rogers.
That's five different week one starting quarterbacks in five years. And it seemed like that we were going to go it was at least pretty close to getting a six for six this year if Rogers decided not to come back.
I remember thinking when that was going on in Indianapolis when it was like who Matt Ryan and Carson Wentz I think Rivers >> Jacobe Brassette got a week one start at some point in there. I'm like man that sucks. Hate for that to be my favorite team. Well here we are. Fan weather brought to you by Secure Money Advisors.

Welcome back to a Sunday morning here on Sports Radio 937th fan. Happy to have you along for the ride on this May 17th, 2026.
Big one, big day.
Aaron Rogers is back.
back as the Steelers quarterback.
One year up to $25 million bucks, base salary of about 22 million. And now the question becomes, what has what happens to the rest of this quarterback room?
I think it's an easy one to answer. Uh, one of those folks that was a part of the ice cream run last night will not be playing football for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2026, and that's Mason Rudolph.
They've got a trade or cut him.
And you know, I I look at a couple of teams around the National Football League and I I have a feeling that Omar Khan, Mike McCarthy, the Steelers are going to have an opportunity to trade Mason Rudolph. Now, they're not going to get a day two pick for this guy. Not obviously, not even close.
But if you're able to get like a sixth or a seventh round pick for Mason Rudolph, which I think they can, you absolutely do it.
I look at a team like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
They just signed Jake Browning to be their backup quarterback behind Baker Mayfield. They also have uh Connor Basilac.
I'm not going to lie to you and tell you that I've heard of that guy before just pulling up their depth chart. And then Jaylen Daniels from Kansas as an undrafted uh free agent quarterback. We know Jake Browning's not very good. He proved that in Cincinnati last year.
That's why the Bengals uh went and traded in the division for Joe Flacco.
So, one could suggest that the Buccaneers have a pretty decent roster outside of the starting quarterback and a pretty good defense.
Like, god forbid on for their sake if if Baker Mayfield misses some time, Jake Browning will lose them games.
Quarterback like Mason Rudolph we've seen, can keep you in games as a backup with a good supporting cast and a good defense. Remember when they drafted Kyle Tras?
>> Yeah, I'm not going to lie to you either. I kind of thought that he was still on their roster, too.
>> So, he was a second round pick and I just looked this up. He did not play last year. I don't know if he was on the roster or not, but he did not appear in a game. Seven games between 22 and 24 and he went 4 for1 passing for 28 yards as a second round pick.
>> That's not very good.
>> No.
I don't know that he was ever really thought to be the future of that team, but at least you're hoping that you get a guy that's going to play a little bit as a backup if you're drafting him in the second round.
>> Yeah.
You know, some of these teams traditionally that have backup bad backups, like the Lions haven't really had a a great backup quarterback in recent years. They they have Teddy Bridgewwater now. thought about maybe the Packers, but they signed Trod Taylor. They also have Kyle McCord, ended up with him behind Jordan Love.
So, look out for potentially and Danny Smith's there in Tampa. Kenneth Gainwell's there. Look out potentially for Rudolph for a seventh straight up.
>> What if he goes to the Browns somehow?
>> Plays with uh his boy Miles Garrett. I mean, >> you're always in the in the uh on the search for a quarterback, huh?
>> He he did end up playing with Larry Oen Joby, who was also very involved in that situation on that Thursday night game back in 2019.
But no, I mean, the Browns have Shador and Tayen Green who they drafted and Dylan Gabriel and I think Deshun Watson's gonna start for them.
That's probably going to be worse than the Steelers QB situation.
>> Yeah.
4129289370.
Aaron Rogers is back and the phone lines are open.
How do you feel about it? Did you want him back? Are you one of those people that really never wanted him back and and were pissed that it was happening again and now that it's official Andy's back, are you even more pissed? 4129289370.
This is the first time you guys have a chance to react and I'm sure all the shows tomorrow and throughout the week will continue to do so, especially with OTAAS right around the corner. Uh, but your opportunity this morning to really react to this news at 412-928-9370.
It's also the number of the text line brought to you by Edgar Snder and Associates personal injury law firm and they always say there's never a fee unless we get money for you. If you missed it at the top of the show, I get it.
I understand bringing him back from the Steelers point of view. I don't agree with it, but I get it. I don't get the concept of paying him more money.
I understand that the Steelers had that cash lying around. They had the cap space.
And Aaron Rodgers is a guy that's already undervalued as far as starting quarterbacks in the National Football League go. like 20 to 25 million a year is not quote unquote market value for what you know if if the Steelers were truly a Super Bowl contender they're paying their quarterback a lot more than what they're paying Aaron Rodgers. So, I understand all that undermarket value.
Steelers had the cap space, but the principle of giving Aaron Rodgers a $10 million raise after what the Steelers did last season and how the season ended doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
But, as I just said that out loud, maybe in a way it does because the Steelers Let me let me let me put it to you this way, Sean. If I were to give you one if you had to pick one adjective to describe the Pittsburgh Steelers for the last 10 plus years, 10 years, what would that adjective be?
>> Uh, can I cheat a little bit?
>> Sure.
>> I would say consistently just above average.
>> Well, I was going to say mediocre. See, to me, mediocre would just be probably a little below average and and that's not true. They are above average, but it's frustrating that it seems like that's about the extent of it.
>> All right. Well, you answered that question in the way that I kind of thought you would. Anyway, so it it kind of fits the bill for what the Steelers have been, right? If you want to call it mediocrity, we'll call it mediocrity.
Steelers were mediocre last year.
They've been mediocre for several years before that.
It's exactly what the Steelers won and Aaron Rogers gave it to him and they rewarded him for it and gave him more money than he made last year. So maybe it does make sense. Still don't have to agree with it, but maybe it does make sense after all. 412928 9370.
Aaron Rogers is back. How do you feel about it? The phone lines are wide open.
412-928-9370.
Let's go to the YouTube comments. Always appreciate those folks.
The only way the young guys will truly learn is by playing, saying, "I don't know football."
>> They might have been talking to another YouTube comment.
>> Oh, maybe could have been. Hopefully that's the case.
>> You know ball. I mean, you're not nec.
I'm not like an elite ball knower, but I do know if it the ball is blown up or stuffed.
>> Uh, just reacting to that comment, here's what I would say. We've already seen Howard take a red shirt year.
Whether he was ready or not, he was going to take that red shirt year because of his injury. But year two, I think you do want to see him get snaps.
And I would say Aller, he's gonna take a red shirt year. But 2027, you want to see him get snaps. So, I agree that eventually after that first year of sitting and learning, these guys will need to play at least a little bit in the second year to see what you have.
If they're three years stapled to the bench, you're really not going to know whatsoever. And it's going to be too difficult to try to anticipate their future if they're never getting in games.
That said, it's not like you're going to bench Aaron Rogers at any point in the first what 12 to 14 weeks of the season.
Things would really have to go off the rails for either of those guys to see any snaps of meaningful football shy of an injury to him. Another comment, Steelers won the North. That's not mediocre. Well, the AFC North was incredibly mediocre last year and the Steelers just happen to be the best of the mediocre.
Like Joe Burrow missed basically all of last season and I understand that they were division champs, but like look at the other divisions in the AFC.
Even the AFC South, which historically has been a lot worse than the AFC North, 12 and five got you second.
12 and five would have won the AFC North by four games. The same could be said for the AFC East and the AFC West is really, really good. Denver, LA, both of those teams look to potentially be back this year. Kansas City's not going to go 6-1 again, especially if they get Mahomes back and healthy. And who knows, the Raiders might have done enough to be better than three and 14 with Fernando Mendoza. The AFC North was the worst division in the AFC last year.
and 10 and seven in every other division would have not won them the division. So they were mediocre. If you were to compare it to the entire league, they were mediocre.
4129289370.
He dropped off earlier, but now he's back and better than ever. Mr. Paul in Washington. I'm sure you have takes galore. Paul, good morning.
>> Well, Mr. Hillgrove, I called to defend your honor and your wisdom and your intelligence. That guy, Bill. Phil, if you're out there, Bill, listen up.
Really? Malik Willis, are you serious?
You think he's the next upandcomer? I've got some oceanfront property in Phoenix, Arizona for you, Bill. You can buy it cheap if you believe that Miami is Miami. They're going to be no good again. And if they think Malik Willis is the answer, well, let them have at it. I certainly do agree. Aaron Rodgers is in no way know how the answer and it's an embarrassment to a once proud franchise.
It was on the right track until Junior took over the reigns and has completely ruined every sense of common sense that the Steelers used to have when it came to building a football team. Why in the world you'd want to get a used car that got a 250,000 miles on it and you're not guaranteed you're going to get 30 days use out of it is beyond me. So, let's just lace up the boots and let the two quarterbacks, the two youngsters do their thing. Let Mason sit back and help out if need be. But the only way we're going to get back to the glory years is through the draft, not putting lipstick on a pig. And this is ridiculous. And my man Bill, I hope you have a nice day. But if that's your take and you believe that, you've got bigger issues than the Steelers do. You have a good day, Mr. Hill Gross.
>> All right, Paul. Good stuff. Great analogy.
Aaron Rogers is, I guess, the quarterback equivalent of a used car with a lot of miles on it. And I think the the the biggest problem that I have with it, again, this is a giant problem right now, just like it was a giant problem right now 365 days ago, and then once April came around, it ended up me not being the biggest problem in the world because what we thought was going to happen didn't happen. That was the quarterback class that everybody thought was going to be fantastic in 2026. Ended up being uh not fantastic to say the least. Right now, I'm very pissed that Aaron Rogers is back as the Steelers quarterback because it's going to do what a lot of people think it's going to do. Get them just good enough, but not bad enough to really get a shot at any of these guys.
So that's why I'm really really bothered by it right now, but 11 months from now it might not be a big deal because the quarterback class might fall on its face again. We don't know or it might become even better and we might get even more pissed about it. But all we can do is look at it at from the present and right now. And on May 17th, 2026, there's like five guys that are going to go in the first 15 to 20 picks that I would really really like for the Steelers to have a shot at drafting next year.
Julian Seyan right now, according to NFL draft buzz, is the best quarterback prospect for 2027.
That is surprising.
>> It's not to me because his completion percentage was so unbelievably high, but I'm going to do the same thing for him that I did for his predecessor and Will Howard was I think Will Howard had a very high completion percentage at Ohio State compared to what he had at Kansas State cuz he had elite wide receivers at Ohio State to throw the ball to. Julian S has the same thing.
>> I had heard >> Barber Football Focus had nothing to do with these with these rankings. I was going to say Manning and Moore I thought were really kind of significantly ahead of the other guys. Yeah. For everything that I >> Well, this is just this is just one outlet. The the guy that I would commit heinous crimes for that that is hyperbole and not a legitimate >> just misdemeanor.
>> Yeah. Well, yeah. Dante Moore.
I I >> if he does it again what he did last year. My only concern is is it going to be a one-year thing?
>> I think he will. I think him going back to Oregon was the best thing he could have done for his career.
I think Dante Moore is going to be the best quarterback out of next year's class because not only is he very mobile and runs at a at a good enough level to to call yourself a mobile quarterback in college. He's got the size 63 210 that plays. Arch Manning, he's got a lot to live up to.
Can he take the step forward? I think, you know, for for what he was hyped up to be at Texas might have let a lot of people down, but he's back for another year of college football. Can he take that next step into potentially being the top pick in next year's draft? One of the guys that kind of came out of nowhere in his top five is is CJ Carr from Notre Dame.
Another one with good size, 63, 210. And then I also like Jaden Mava from USC. That's another mobile. And then he's 6'4 230.
Got guys, man. And I read all of those names off because Aaron Rogers coming back might prevent them from having a chance at any of them.
And also Aaron Rogers coming back.
Sorry, I know you were about to jump in there.
>> It's okay. We're team.
Aaron Rogers coming back prevents you from doing what I think a lot of people want them to do is is let them roll out Will Howard and see if he has it. He might have his opportunity. I think Will Howard will probably be the backup because again, I started this segment saying they're either going to cut or trade Mason Rudolph, but is it enough sample size to really feel okay with not taking a quarterback next year and rolling the dice with Will Howard? Or does it just prolong the inevitable? you're not going to get your quarterback again till 2028.
>> I will I will say that this could be a fun exercise for you or for our listeners. If you look at all the teams in the NFL right now and you project three years down the road, is it fair to say that probably three three4s of the teams you can anticipate what the plan is at quarterback realistically three years from now?
Let's do I'm going to do this hyper fast really quick.
>> But the Steelers would be one of the teams that you probably can't I mean if you're really high on Aller and you think that a third round guy will be the starter which is rarely the case in the NFL.
But I think that there's enough uncertainty there. It's really hard to expect that to happen. Most teams you know what the plan is not only this year not only next year but probably all the way through 2029 or beyond. And it's not the worst thing in the world if you don't know it and you think you'll be drafting high like you mentioned. But the Steelers are one of those teams that you don't know 3 years from now and you probably aren't getting one of those top three quarterbacks this upcoming season.
I'm going to count them out loud to my self and out loud on the air. And it's the question it's not going to be will their current starting quarterback be their starting quarterback 3 years from now. It's just going to be like do they kind of have a plan, >> right? Like the Rams would have a plan.
>> Yes.
1 2 3 4 5 six.
>> You're wavering on one there.
>> Yep. I was The people in the YouTube chat could see my facial expression. If you're listening in the car, I'm sorry.
Six. Without a plan from three years from now.
Seven.
Seven. And the Steelers are one of those seven. Cardinals.
Nobody in the AFC West.
Saints, cuz I'm I'm not sold on Tyler Shuck. Do they still have Spencer Rattler? Rattler. Not sold on him either. Nobody in the all the Colts that counted them. But I like Straoud, Trevor Lawrence, and I think Cam Ward will do well in Tennessee. Minnesota because may maybe Kyler Murray's their plan, but he's on a one-year deal, so I included them. The Steelers, obviously, and then the Dolphins and the Jets. But regardless, it's a it is a small fraction of the league. It's about a quarter of the league and the Steelers are in there without a plan at quarterback. And >> at least a few of those teams you would expect would be drafting high enough to take that quarterback next year, >> right? You would say Arizona is going to be drafting high enough >> potentially for last place team.
>> Yeah, the Saints will have like now in the next three years will this will these teams have a chance to draft high enough to get their guy? The Dolphins, I'm sure, will. The Jets have and and will have th those chances later on in the future. Um I didn't even include the Browns, but they they'll still have a chance. Minnesota maybe not cuz that roster is still pretty good, but who knows? They could break it down and rebuild.
Indy's known to have high draft picks.
Arizona for sure and the Saints for sure. And then there's the Steelers.
So again, not only does this does this move prevent them from figuring out if Will Howard or Drew Aller right away has what it takes. That's bringing the, you know, Aaron Rogers back for another season.
It's also going to get them just good enough to where those guys that I lifted off and there's five maybe six of them for next season saying more Manning Carr my Sellers. Here's another one I'll even throw at you. Drew me lit the world on fire at North Texas followed his coach to Oklahoma State. If he replicates, that's another name in the first round.
>> Is Sorsby a legitimate >> if he plays?
>> And if not, he would come out in a supplemental, I believe.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh, also, did you mention the guy from Arizona State?
>> Sam Levit's eighth on this list. Well, he's now at LSU. Is that who you're talking about?
>> Yes.
>> Yeah, he's now eighth.
>> And he seems like a guy who could maybe jump up even.
>> Yep. Like Trinidad Chamblas was thought to potentially be like a day two pick if he came out this year or was able to. He's 11th on this list for next year. Like >> I should have known better that thinking a guy was going to be at the same school for a couple years in a row. That was silly.
>> Yeah, it's how dare you. One more call before the break. Bernie is on the fan.
Hello Bernie. How you feeling this morning?
>> Well, I'm doing great. Um, so I I I was giving giving some thought to it and you know, you guys were talking about the three years down the road and everything like that and I said, "Well, maybe you know Omar Khan has actually told us the plan."
So, and as well as McCarthy, they all have said that >> Will Howard will be a starter. They also said that Aaron Rodgers is there. So, Aaron Rogers is this year's quarterback.
Obviously, we got that figured out. that allows Will Howard to develop for one more year, but he's got the lower ceiling.
So, he's going to be the quarterback for the next two years as a starter while they're still developing him. His contract ends, Drew Aller takes over, and they've got three years of seasoning Drew Aller so that he's ready to go whenever the time comes.
>> And then if none of those guys work out, then what? Well, I mean that that but I mean that's the plan. That's that's the the thought process. The thought process is is that everything they've said is true that Aaron Rogers this year gives one more year for the lower ceiling guy to become maybe the backup or leave, however it goes. And then the the young stud that they think has a high ceiling, they can correct all his problems and make him the franchise quarterback.
>> Yeah, I get it. I mean, I get where you're coming from. That's a good observation, Bernie. Thanks for the call. I don't agree with it because I mean you look at a lot of the franchise quarterbacks in the NFL with the exception of Josh Allen who kind of came from Wyoming and there was that that was up in the air and maybe really to an extent of Pat Mahomes too because I think it's safe to say that you know even though he was a good enough quarterback in college his college career wasn't indicative of him potentially being the greatest of all time when it's all said and done.
And that's not hyperbole with Mahomes.
Dak Prescott obviously was a mid-round pick, but a lot of these guys stood out enough in college to where you're like, "Okay, high-profile guys. That's who I want to be the next franchise quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers." Their last franchise quarterback was one of those standout guys. Ben Rothllessberger, even though it was at Miami of Ohio, was one of those standout guys. Finished as a Heisman finalist, was ninth, but nonetheless a Heisman finalist and had an elite college football career and went in the top 15.
Am I that outlandish for suggesting that's who somebody I want to be the Steelers next franchise quarterback? I hope not. We've got to run to a break.

How do you feel about it? Another question that I wanted to pose and since we have a minute here before Colin Beasley, uh, I was going to set aside some time for it because again, and I know how people feel about non-sports topics on this sports talk radio show, but I think there's a time and a place for them and I thought of a really good one after going out on Friday night. I was at a uh watering hole that was having a karaoke night and I posed the question, the worst karaoke song of all time. Like you're there just having a good time on a karaoke night. Maybe you're in line to sing or you're just there and you see somebody standing with the microphone and when the the the name of the song pops up on the screen, you see it and you're like, "Man, what the hell? What is that song?
So, if you have a take on that in the YouTube chat, fire it in there or at 4129289370.
I'm curious what you think the worst karaoke song of all time is. I have two two songs that I actually really like.
American Pie, Don Mlan. It's just 8 minutes long.
And the other one is, and I think this is the worst karaoke song of all time, is Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meatloaf because it's long and Meatloaf's got some range. And there's some range in that song.
And I think it's safe to say that like 90 at least 90% of the time, whoever's just firing in karaoke at a local bar on a Friday night is is not going to be able to hit those meatloaf high notes. Have you ever heard someone do like a like screamer song for karaoke?
>> Yes.
>> Like uh what like kill switch engage or something like that at Treyu?
>> That that sometimes kind of tough.
>> Yeah. We were uh when we were in Indie for our Steelers trip a few years ago, we went to a karaoke bar >> and a guy fired in one of those kind of songs. Was actually pretty good about it.
>> Yeah. Some of those songs you can do and it's, you know, not too much, but I think I remember one or two where it was just like someone screaming as loud as they could.
>> Yeah. It's not great.
>> And you can't like do anything to avoid that. Like that's just >> And the number one, >> whatever conversation you're having is going to stop when a person is intentionally screaming as loud as they can.
>> And the number one rule of karaoke, you can't boo the person or they'll like kick you out of the place. You could only boo them if you're like actually friends with them.
>> Yeah, if that Yeah, I agree.
>> Yeah.
>> All right, back to the more important topic at hand, Aaron Rogers. And that's where we go to the fan hotline and find our friend James. Hello, James.
>> Yes.
Uh Rogers is not like Brady.
I just feel that Rogers can't throw the ball as far as receivers.
I don't I don't I don't feel that his arm is as good as Brady's was and I don't think it'll last that long.
>> Well, why does it have to be Why are you comparing him to the greatest of all time, though? Like, I wh why why Tom Brady? Just because he's playing into his 40s like Tom Brady did >> Brady, >> I got James, I got to let you go. I'm sorry. I didn't I wanted to let you finish, but he had to turn his radio down in the background and we're at the top of the hour and >> maybe he was about to do some karaoke.
Yeah, but then that would probably screw up our YouTube stuff because that's going to be copyrighted songs.
>> That's unfortunate.
>> So that would have been a double double no.
>> Sorry, James.
>> Next time you call in, make sure you, you know, turn your radio down before we put >> on the producer for not uh not notifying him of that. Although sometimes it's hard to tell here. All righty, a break in all the Rogers stuff.

>> Yeah, special situation calls for special coverage. I suppose >> doing our best. The other question that I had, wanted to dedicate more time to it was, what's the worst karaoke song of all time?
Still time to answer that question. So, we'll break the ice with pirates beat writer of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Colin Beasley, with that question.
Colin, what's the worst karaoke song of all time?
>> Man, I'm I'm You're You're putting me on the spot with that question. I'm I'm trying to >> like You're out with your buddies. It's a karaoke night. Some poor sad sack takes the stage, and you see what song it is, and you're like, "You've got to be kidding me, dude."
I'm not I I can't think of a specific one at this exact moment, but anything that's just way too long. Like this is if you're doing karaoke, take your three minutes, maybe four max, but there's a couple songs like if you're trying to do like a Bohemian Rapsity or something just crazy long, then that's that's that's where I I'd draw the line. What What are What are some other answers so far? I said uh Paradise by the Dashboard, Light by Meatloaf because that's long and Meatloaf has again pretty great range, great vocalist, and I would venture to guess that like over 90% of the people that do karaoke cannot hit those notes. So, not only is it long, whoever's doing it more likely is just butchering the living daylights out of it.
>> Yeah, that's that's not a bad pick right there.
>> American Pie. another just yeah like again to your line of thinking the long the length of the song I think is the most important factor there.
>> Yeah, just it's karaoke. You're not you can be the star of the show for a few minutes but not not that long unless you're really good. But >> yeah, >> if you're doing karaoke it's it's that's that's not what you're looking for.
>> Well, how about this for a transition?
The star of the show yesterday was Christopher Sanchez. um nine innings, six hits, no walks, 13 Ks. Uh a guy that finished runner up to Paul Skins last year for the Sai Young Colum Beasley uh in pitching for the length of this whole season, not just yesterday, like he's really mad about it and uh looks like he'll be in that conversation yet again this year. He's pretty darn good.
>> Yeah, that's that's really the best way to say it. He's pretty darn good. The Pirates have obviously had their struggles against left-handers this year, but there's not there's not too much shame in getting in and uh getting beaten by Christopher Sanchez, especially the way he threw the ball yesterday. I am concerned about how the Pirates hit against lefties. I think it's something that they're trying to figure out and have been trying to figure out all season, but Christopher Sanchez is someone who is probably like a top five pitcher in baseball at this point. So, he's done this to a lot of teams, not just the Buckos.
>> What is it as we kind of talk about this Phillies team? What is it in your mind that you think has has made them put it all together? It seems like it's just been as simple as a managerial change and since um Donnie baseball takes over.
They they're now 23 and 23 once upon a time when they were 8 and 18. Like, is it just has it been that simple for them?
It's weird because in in baseball sometimes you just got to switch up something. Like sometimes when you're going through a rough patch, either a managerial change or a mojo change or finding something to rally around in the clubhouse. It can just be something as little as that. That doesn't mean that Rob Thompson was such a bad manager that they were 10 games under 500. I mean, he's led them to the World Series. He's led led them to a whole lot of whole lot of wins, a whole lot of winning baseball. So, it's not like he was a bad manager, but whatever it is, it sounds like they they switched something up. The mojo started going and now they're they're playing with some confidence and and starting to put it all together. I Good for Donnie baseball that he's been able to have that success and and uh help the Phillies to 500 once again.
>> Colin Beasley, Bucko's beat writer for the PG with us. Colin, let's talk about uh we I asked you about the starting pitcher for the Phillies. Let's talk about the one yesterday from the Buckos, Bubba Chandler. Uh it's just more the same. Unfortunately, the first third of his season just has not been uh where I think Pirates fans expected him to be at this point in his uh Major League Baseball career.
>> Yeah. So, what I'll say is I I went to double Altuna yesterday, so I didn't I didn't watch it pitch by bit pitch by pitch and I didn't see exactly um what went wrong on in terms of like a pitch by pitch level, but yeah, it just Bubba Chandler hasn't been the guy that we've we've we saw him be at the end of 2025. He's struggled with command. He hasn't had a strikeout stuff. I I thought that maybe the difference between Joey Bart and Henry Davis could have been a difference, but last couple starts he's had Davis and it hasn't necessarily gone gone too well. I think the the walks are probably the biggest thing. He he knows that you can't issue that many free passes and and get away with it at this level. And I I think the command is what I'm most worried about, but he's been getting hit hard, too.
He's been leaving pitches over the plate to good hitters like he did against Harper. It's I I I certainly am more concerned about him than I was the the last time I I spoke to you about him and his slow start.
>> So, since you were in Altuna, let me ask you about Jared Jones. I mean, he is close, I would have to imagine, right? I believe eligible to come off the injured list in like eight or nine days now. I mean, are we going to get to the point where he's going to make a start, at least one start for the Pirates before the calendar turns to June?
Yeah, I think I think that's possible.
Ben Sherington has left the possibility open for that. Um, it it sounds like he's someone who's going to be able to return as soon as as soon as eligible.
He's got another rehab start today. And yeah, honestly, like they still haven't said whether he's going to come back as a reliever or as a starter or exactly how they're going to deploy him. But regardless of what it is, he him coming back makes the Pirates group of 13 better. And if he comes back as a starter and it's Majinsky goes to the bullpen or anything else, then that can make the rotation stronger, that can make the bullpen stronger. And that potentially could end up being a solution to some of the issues that the Pirates had have had over the last couple of weeks with that bullpen. Just having Jared Jones back in whatever role they have is is something that in theory will make the Pirates bullpen and their pitching better.
>> Colin Beasley with us, Pirates beatr writer for the Post Gazette and we you were touching upon the bullpen a little bit there, seeing, you know, potentially where Jared Jones fits. Uh that was the story unfortunately of Friday night, which was objectively probably the worst loss the Pirates have had all season.
And then yesterday of the five earned runs that the Pirates allowed, only one of them was from a bullpen and from the bullpen and the starter went three innings. So I say all that to ask you like Ben Cherington and Don Kelly believe that the fixes are internal for this bullpen. If so, where where should they lean at this point? Cuz I mean I look at Evan Cisk is a guy that's got an RA sub two. Johan Ramirez, who's been up and down, had three KS and a scoreless inning yesterday. Brandon Bidois, like where do they look if the if the fixes to the bullpen truly are internal, who potentially could could take on a larger role here?
>> One of the innings I did get to watch um in in yesterday's game was Johan Ramirez. And I'm not saying that he's the one to lean on, but I'm just I it was one of it was such a Johan Ramirez inning going and striking out Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper on six pitches, then allowing two hits and then getting another strike out. like that.
That is Johan Ramirez in a nutshell with the stuff and and uh the the just adventure factor on the mound of of never necessarily having just a routine inning. But as as to your question, it they kind of just have to keep trying different guys. Like I've been impressed with what we've seen of Brandon Bidois, but he's made three major league appearances. Maybe maybe he's someone you can try and lean on a little bit. I I maybe you start to turn around and have to rely on a guy like Isaac Matson when Dennis Santana is going through it.
I don't think that they'll move away from Montgomery or from Sodto even after they both gave up runs on Friday just because both have been so good throughout the season. I I think it's something where you kind of have to have to lean on some of the guys that have had success earlier even if they're not having success now. But the real issue for the Pirates is having bullpen issues in May is one of the worst times to have bullpen issues because you it's it's really tough to go out and make a true external change. I see fans wanting Rale Chapman and yes, that would be an outstanding signing that would or an outstanding acquisition that would solve a lot of issues for this team, but a team like the Boston Red Sox isn't ready to give up Raldes Chapman at this point in the season because they still think they can turn it around.
Even guys who are a little bit less established than Rale Chapman teams don't want to give up now because they think that they can be in contention pretty much regardless of where they are in the standings. So right now you kind of just have to figure it out with the guys who are on your roster or the guys who are on the Indianapolis roster and the Pirates don't have too too much depth in either spot.
>> All right. So, as today is as far as today is concerned, Colin Beasley, Paul Skins, towing the rubber. Um, I'd have to go back and look, but I I I and you might be able to answer this for me. I I believe this is the first Sunday same game parlay I'll have uh this season with a scheme start on a Sunday, unless I'm missing one. Uh, and as a quick look at the game log here, this is his first Sunday start of 2026. So, that is going to definitely play a factor in uh how I look at this. And how I look at this, I go to last year, two starts against the Phillies, 7 and 2/3. Pirates win 2-1 at Philly in May of last year. Eight innings, they lose one- nothing. Um, and obviously the offense was a was a large reason why that that they were able to have a lot of starts with Paul Sk.
But that's a long-winded way of saying is Paul Ski, you know, over on strikeouts, all that stuff, plus potentially, you know, this game going under, kind of seems like history's on my side in that regard.
>> Yeah, I' I'd say so. With how well Schemes has thrown the ball recently, and like you mentioned, how well he threw the ball against the Phillies last year, I think it's it's fair to bet on him. And it's also he's taken so much pride in being the stopper for this team. He's had to do that a number of a number of times. It seems like whenever he comes to the mound, the Pirates are whether it's either a losing streak or just momentum shifting or anything like that. Um they've Paul Skins has had to fill that role a number of times this season and for the most part gotten been able to do it. I think he takes pride in that. I think he takes pride in taking facing lineups like the Phillies and I'm expecting his best stuff today. I mean, this is the best pitching matchup that the Pirates have had, like a Pirates game has had all season, right? I'm not even sure it's close with Zack Wheeler on the mound on the other side.
>> Trying to think if if there's anything better. Yeah, like if Yeah, this is this is one of those matchups that you you get a little bit excited for just just seeing that on a on a lineup sheet. Anytime you see Paul Ske pitch, it's something you want to see. But when you get to see him face someone who's as good as Wheeler, it's it's exciting.
>> Last one for you. Uh, as far as getting on the right track today, what's going to happen? It's a generic question, but I think an important one because the Pirates are trying to salvage some sort of this series, uh, avoid being swept, uh, which they haven't been swept, uh, since that Cardinal series at the end of April. So, what do they have to do today to avoid it? What what are some of the big things you'll be looking out for?
>> I mean, the simplest one is Ski has to be Ski. You have to get him a lead early and and really what I'm I'm looking to see is how how far Sches is able to go.
Um I think this is one where with the with how the bullpen has been, you kind of need seven innings out of him. If you're having six and you're leaving three innings for the bullpen to cover, I think that's something that wouldn't play in the Pirates favor. So, I want to see them getting get off to an early lead against Wheeler. It doesn't have to be you don't have to do what you were able to do against Nola, but find a little bit of offense and don't let this be a scoreless game going into the seventh and eighth and ninth inning. And then for skins, just let be skins. Let him continue what he's been able to do in May and and the success he's had so far this month. If if those two things happen and you can get off to an early lead and give him something to protect, I think it can be a good day for the Pirates.

But Aaron Rogers is back and that's been the topic all morning. That's the topic that the phone lines are open for. And we'll start that off with Jim on the fan. Hey Jim, >> how you doing?
>> Good. How are you?
>> Good. I always enjoy listening to your show.
>> Thank you.
>> Uh yeah, I was you guys are talking about football. I don't understand. And they always draft all these different guys, bigname guys, and none of them ever do nothing. And right away they give them big money and and and they never do nothing.
>> None of them. And that's that's from years and years ago.
>> Yeah. And again, my my big thing, Jim, with with the contract for Rogers is like they can afford it, right? They had the cap space. And I I had said this earlier, they have the cap space. They can afford it. And what he's making now is still under market value for, you know, a typical franchise type quarterback in the NFL. But it's a $10 million raise after 10 and seven and another blowout loss in the playoffs.
Like it's just re rewarding the mediocrity in a sense. And that's why I just have a hard time coming down on it, if that makes sense.
>> Yeah, I agree with everything you said.
I'm trying to I'm trying to remember. It was a person. He played at Stubenville High School. He was a real good quarterback. Zackaros went to >> Yeah. might have been before him. He went to Cincinnati.
>> No, it's Zack. Zack Polaros. Yep.
>> Oh, that's Yeah, he was real good. That, you know, I see him and he got drafted and then you never heard of him again.
>> Well, he So, actually, it's it's funny that you brought him up, Jim, because he's like the Tom Brady of the CFL.
Maybe not Tom Brady like greatest of all time, but he I think he was drafted by Carolina, had a cup of coffee, fizzled out, and then ended up in the Canadian Football League. And he's won multiple CFL titles and multiple like CFL most outstanding player awards, and he's still playing into his late 30s. So, he's made actually a pretty darn good career for himself out of the Canadian Football League.
>> Yeah, cuz he was he was a good ball player. Cuz you know all about Stubenville, you know, that's why I wanted to ask you.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's that's where that's where my full-time gig is.
Jim, thanks for the call. But yeah, Zach is uh you know who is uh there's a very good chance that Zach is not only going to be attending but in a very highprofile wedding this summer. You know whose wedding that is? Sean Myers, >> Charlie Borges.
>> No, I mean what's what potentially the the the biggest wedding as far as celebrities? Taylor Swift and Yeah, >> cuz they played he played at Cincy with Travis Kelce and Zach and >> Charlie's would have been the second biggest wedding this year.
>> Close second.
>> Second that hasn't happened because Donny's >> he was number one.
>> Yeah, but Zach's a former roommate. Not only former college teammate of the Kelsey brothers, but a former roommate.
They're very tight. So, >> can I ask you a completely off off the uh beaten path question right now?
>> As long as you promise we can get to Chuck in Uniontown next.
>> Well, of course we'll get to Chuck. I have never understood and truthfully I've never really tried to get the answer about Stubenville's nickname.
>> Big Red.
>> No, it's I don't even know what it It's the Berg with the BB. Is that >> Oh, the BB of the Berg.
>> The BB of the Berg.
>> Yeah.
>> So, it's a suburb of Pittsburgh. Is that >> I never to be tr to be truthful, I never understood it either because like >> cuz that's they say it so quick that I don't even really know what they're saying.
>> It rolls off the it rolls off the tongue but like suggested what it's referencing.
>> Yeah, it's the like >> but that's what everyone knows Stubenville as.
>> The BB of the Berg. Yeah, but like South Hills, the North Hills like >> see someone's saying Berg of the Berg.
>> No, it's BB of the Berg.
>> This needs to be We need to get to the bottom of this.
>> It is the BB of the Berg. I don't think it they used to market the living daylights out.
>> Oh, I know. It was like unavoidable.
That's what you think of Stubenville.
That comes to my mind.
>> Yeah, I know. Nowadays it's people still call it that. But they used to like actually market it as that. But I mean what when I think of Berba the B it's like oh yeah you can get to Stubenville from Pittsburgh or or back and forth pretty easily. These days is now since I've moved back closer to home. I live in Robinson now. So my drive to work and it usually takes about a half hour.
Route 22 from like Weon all the way across the Veterans Memorial Bridge into Stubenville. Both ways boil down to one lane. Construction out the daylights.
And it like if I if I'm getting ready to get into Weirton and cross into Stubenville and it's not before 3:00, I'm sitting in traffic for a half hour.
>> People are saying a lot of residents of Stubenville commute to Pittsburgh to work. And that's why cuz I'm coming in I'm going into Stubenville to work night side TV at like 3:30 4:00.
There's people coming home from work. So it's why I've been getting in early.
>> I'm a big fan of Baron von Stwie. By the way, >> Baron Baron von Stuben. That's why it's Stubenville. Come on.
>> It's not Stwie.
>> No.
>> Oh man.
>> Historic Fort Stuben.
Well, I thought this mascot maybe had like a >> That's the name of the mascot.
>> Yeah, but that's what I'm talking about.
>> Oh, I thought you were talking about the actual guy.
>> No, I'm talking about the mascot for Franciscan University. Gez Louise, Jack, making me feel dumb here.
>> Well, there's a guy named Bar. Okay, we're going to get back to neutral here cuz we've got the Sunday same game parlay. Chuck in Uniontown's going to talk buckos, I'm sure. Hey, Chuck.
Chuck, are you there?
Chuck going once.
>> Yeah, >> there you are. Hey, Chuck.
>> Morning, Jack.
>> How are you? Uh, >> I'm okay. It's It's always good to talk to talk to you. I wish we were talking about happier times, but Jack, this is a big ball game today.
A big ball game because this series is lost. You can't do anything about it. But when did they you at least have a partially good frame of mind heading into Bush Stadium and what I fear skis may pitch well a day well today.
>> Mhm.
>> But if Wheeler battles into a standoff, which bullpen do you like right now?
>> That's not even a question.
>> Yeah. And uh Jack, I'll say this.
If we can come off this upcoming sixgame road trip to St. Louis and Toronto and we can still be over 500, I think maybe we have weathered the storm. But come on, Memorial Day. The Cubs are in there in first. We've 13 to 12 at 13 and 12 in our home ballpark, Jack. That's just not going to cut it all.
>> No, it's not. It's It's not, Chuck. And and thanks for the call. I appreciate it. I want to get to the Sunday same game parlay and then couple of folks >> uh know what people are calling.
>> They are. Yep. I see a 740 area code.
So, we'll get to that after the break.
But here's the Sunday same game parlay uh for today, May 17th, 2026. The hopefully soon to be sponsored Sunday same game parlay. Last week, rough four for five. um missed all but and this is exactly why and I've gotten burned on this a couple of times this year, Sean, betting on somebody to record a hit and it burned us again last week. Ashcraft against Chase Burns in the the Sunday game against the Reds that was like an hour long that flew. Pirates money line cashed Ashcraft and Burns over on their strikeouts. No, this is the wrong one.
I'm reading the wrong one.
That was two weeks ago. As I was saying it out loud, I'm like, "Jack, what the hell are you talking about?" All right, May 10th, last week against the Giants in the 7 to6 extra innings fiasco. Uh Brian Reynolds and Connor Griffin both bet on those guys to record a hit and we got burned because Reynolds didn't start, pinch hit, didn't hit, so that didn't cash. Connor Griffin did record a hit.
Bubba Chandler, no on the strikeouts.
Tyler Molly, he hit over four and a half strikeouts. He doubled that and the Pirates minus one and a half. So we were what? Two for five.
Not great. Four for five the week prior.
Here it is today.
I'm going to take a guess on what Paul Ske's career numbers are against the Phillies.
Well, I heard Pony say that Skins threw his only complete game against the Phillies, but it came in a loss.
>> Is a complete game. Eight innings. Yes, >> that still counts as a complete game.
>> Yes. If you're only if your team only pitches eight innings, >> that still counts as a like correct. Oh, I didn't. Okay. I thought it had to be nine. Okay. Nope.
>> Um well then that's the case. 0 and one.
>> Ironically, it was that one with a.57 erra and a45 whip. 16 strikeouts and 15 and 2/3.
His number on the strikeouts today is my is 6 and 12 over. Zack Wheeler, you know what his numbers are against the Pirates in his career?
>> Are they very good?
>> Yeah. Uh 5-1 with a 238 RA, 66 strikeouts in 53 career innings against the Pirates. 6 and a half Ks over and Wheeler is having a very very good um 20 26. Last year against the Pirates, he had six strikeouts in his only start, but it was scoreless ball uh in six innings, six Ks.
the start prior in April of 24 fan 10 buckos. So I've got Wheeler and skins over at six and a half strikeouts.
Somebody commented it last week. Bet on somebody to do a uh to record a stolen base. We're doing it today. Connor Griffin stolen base. And that's going to juice up the uh the numbers here. So we're we're going Connor Griffin on one plus stolen base.
the end of that bed was it was like stopping and starting and stopping and starting. I like this one though. Thank you. You're welcome. Um under the the game line is seven under. This is going to be uh and then the the two starts that Paul SK had against the Phillies last year. It was 2-1 and one- nothing.
So I'm going under seven.
And the first five innings especially I feel better about this one than I do the under because again Chuck brought up the Pirates bullpen.
first five innings is the line is three and a half. I would venture to guess that Skins and Wheeler will both complete five innings and it might be the like the last time the Pirates played a Sunday game at home against the Reds. Scoreless after five. So, Ski and Wheeler over 6 and 1/2Ks, Connor Griffin stolen base. First five innings under three and a half and the game under seven. It's a Sunday same game parlay.
May 17, 2026.
your thoughts.
>> I like it. I feel good. The one that I would probably be most apprehensive is a stolen base by Connor Griffin.
>> Yeah, but I look at it this way. If you get there, the last four should be relatively doable.
>> I think the other four are all very wise bets. Although, you did mention bullpen, so who knows? You might be trending towards the under seven runs and then things just blow up like in the eighth inning, something like that.
>> Yeah. And that could very well happen.
But I I mean if Sk gets to seven in we if they both go seven, right? I mean I don't feel >> he's coming off of an eight inning outing. Is that right, >> Paul?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Two of them.
So even though he's not maybe going as deep as some people would like, he's still going very deep into games. They might not need more than one reliever potentially.
Skins is coming off of back-to-back eight inning starts. 16 innings, four hits, no runs, 17 strikeouts, zero walks uh in his last.
So I guess yeah, this would be for the month of May. Did you ever see the crazy stat about his career numbers?
>> What about his career numbers?
>> 2024 his erra I think was 1.96.
2025 it was 1.97.
It's currently 1.98.
>> Oh yeah. Look at that.
>> So someone obviously jokingly said he's been >> he's getting worse.
>> Yeah. He's been slipping every year.
>> You know what's crazy about it though? I mean this is that's funny and it's obviously not true but you look at down the line year after year in 2024 his whip 0.95 2025 his whip 0.95 you know what it is through nine starts >> you say 0.95 >> is 64 >> that is >> you threw me a curveball if pun intended you threw me a spinker there >> 56 strikeouts to seven walks >> by the way for those who don't fully grasp what that means. A a whip of one is spectacular for a starting pitcher.
>> Absolutely. It is >> spectacular.
And he has a career whip of 0.91. I would venture a guess that probably in any given year there's less than five starters who have a sub one whip. I could be wrong about that, but I feel like that's generally the ballpark of what you're looking at for each given season. Just to put in perspective, maybe five guys in the whole game amongst starters. Now, you get relievers like a Mason Miller, but starting pitchers, very rarely do you see sub one whips.
>> How much longer do we have in the program, Sean? If this is our final segment, >> we could figure that out.
>> All right, you figure that out. I'm going to talk to Jason in Stubenville.
Jason, good morning, sir. How are you?
>> Jack. Jason Jenkins here, buddy.
>> Oh, there he is. What's up, Jason Jenkins? How are you?
>> Good. How are you doing? I I was on my way to umpire game and I was listening in. I was like, I hate the BB of the bird.
>> Well, and I mean, you're you're I mean, you're you're a lifelong, right? I mean, that's >> Yeah. Oh, yeah. Born and raised.
>> And that just goes to show you what it what people think of the BB of the Berg.
So, that's funny that you of all the times you're in the car catching us that you catch us during that conversation.
>> They catch Springs. B of the BB. I just never. But I mean, they, like you said, they marketing it the heck out of it.
>> Oh, yeah. Absolutely they did. Jason, always good to talk to you, brother.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. That's a good guy right there. I've known him since I've started working out there full-time. But there you go, Sean. That's a lifelong born and raised Stubenville guy who thinks Burb of the Berg is stupid.
I am I'm happy that I at least understand what it's implying now because for my entire life it just I just heard it and never really grasp it.
>> Yeah, but like we all grew up in BBS of the Berg.
>> That's what Yeah. I mean I'm from Plum.
>> I'm from Yeah. South Hills Baldwin.
Yeah.
>> At least they're in the same darn state as Pittsburgh is.
>> That's a good point.
>> It's a very good point. part of that tri-state area that we've often heard about as well.
>> Mhm.
>> Which, now I thought about it, there's probably tri-state areas all across the state, right?
>> PA, Maryland.
>> I'd have to look at a map, but yeah, like that involve different like >> Yeah, you'd probably get like New York and maybe New Jersey, maybe New York and Ohio, right? Right around Eerie. I don't know how much New York.
>> Uh, yeah. I mean, yeah, but like Buffalo, Cleveland, and in and like like Connie Lake, Eerie area. Yeah, absolutely. PA, New York, New Jersey, PA, Maryland, Virginia. PA, Maryland, West Virginia. Yeah, there's like a there's a a slew of tri-state areas, but the one we're most familiar with in Western PA is PA, Ohio, West Virginia.
>> Yeah. Apparently, the New York tri-state area is called Border Junction. Okay.
not really understanding what what that refers to, but this is really a fun show today. I'm I'm learning a lot. I think that's the important thing.
>> Yeah. And uh it was on the pretense of Aaron Rogers being back in Pittsburgh for 2026.
If you're able to sound off on it, happy to get you along for the ride. If you were able to if you weren't able to sound off on it, uh they're going to be talking about it at Nauseium in all four shows tomorrow. Donniey's on in the evening and then of course it's the original three with the morning show, Pomp and Joe and the PM team. Fan weather brought to you by Secure Money Advisors looking to retire soon. Let's secure money advisors get your retirement on track. High of 84 today, potential thunderstorm. Paul SK against Zack Wheeler at 135. And how about I'll leave you with this because the Penguins are out of the playoffs. Yes, but if you're an enjoyer of hockey and an enjoyer of the Penguins, both their minor league teams are very much still alive in the best of five East North Division final or Atlantic division final I should say in the Calder Cup.
The Baby Pens of Wilsberry, Scranton, uh, and the Springfield Thunderbirds are tied at one in the best of five. We talked about the tri-state area wheeling a part of that tri-state area. The Wheeling Nailers forcing game seven in the North Divisional final against the main Mariners. That game seven is tomorrow night in Wheeling. So if you've got nothing to do, West Bank is a great venue and Wheeling is a short drive, hour, hour and a half depending on where you're located and it's a game seven of playoff hockey.
