"HATANA – Sacred Beyond the Reef”- Kunau Vibes OriginalIndiziert:
HATANA – Sacred Beyond the Reef” is the second chapter in my cultural storytelling project based on the ancient legends of Raho and the spiritual history of Rotuma. After deeply researching the sacred oral traditions surrounding Hatana — the island beyond the reef where Raho is believed to have gone into exile and where his spirit still watches over Rotuma — I wanted to create more than just a song. I wanted to preserve memory, emotion, identity, and ancestral connection for future generations. This song explores exile, sacrifice, sacred ground, the mourning of Raho, the maidens who cared for him, and the spiritual reverence that Hatana still carries today among Rotuman people. Beneath the island reggae and cinematic atmosphere is a deeper message about respect for ancestry, knowing where we come from, and understanding that our stories carry the strength of our people. I wrote this song especially for my children, Maria and Raymond Kunau, so they will always remember their roots, their heritage, and the sacred stories that shaped our identity long before modern times. “Hatana” is not only about the past — it is about carrying culture forward with pride, love, and remembrance. West of Rotuma >> [music] >> beyond the reef stands Hatana >> [music] >> sacred, silent, untouched.
The old people say the spirits still walk there with the wind and among them walks Rau hidden corner.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> Beyond the reef Beyond the reef where the wild waves cry, [music] Hatana sleeps beneath the sky. Silent cliffs against the sea holding ancient memory. [music] After wars and broken pride, Rau walked with the turning [music] tide leaving Rotuma far behind searching for peace he could not find. The people watched [music] from distant shores as he walked away forever more.
And Hatana opened [music and singing] to the sea to guard his sacred destiny.
There he lived [music] beside the stone far from every village home. 27 [music] maidens stayed serving Rau night and day. They [music] brought him water from the rain, sang beside his fire flame, massaged the sorrow from his bones [music] so he would never alone. At night beneath the moonlit skies, the seabirds [music] circled as they cried, and every wave upon the shore whispered "Raho ever more."
Oh, Hatana, [music] sacred in the sea, keeper of our history, where [music] the spirits walk through wind and rain. And Raho's fire still remains. Oh, Hatana, [music] beyond the reef, born from sorrow, born from grief, [music] and every wave that meets the shore still calls the name of Raho more.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> Time moves slowly by the sea. [music] Even chiefs face destiny. One last breath [music] beneath the sky, and the great Raho finally died. The maidens mourned beside the flame, calling softly out [music] his name. Stones were placed around the land to honor him [music] for generations.
The west wind carried through the night, like spirits walking out of sight, and Hatana became [music] the place where ancestors still leave their trace.
Through the years the story stayed, passed through [music] every age to age.
Fishermen and sailors know respect the reef [music] where west winds blow.
Offerings placed before the tide [music] with humble hearts and fear inside for those who mock [music] or walk with pride, the ocean turns against their side. The [music] people of Lo'i-Sagar the way, protecting what the old ones say. And still today, the island stands, [music] sacred beyond the modern lands. Now the world moves fast [music] with time.
Cities rise and bright lights shine, but Atana still remains, [music] watching through the storms and rain.
EVERY CHILD must come to know THE STORIES CARRIED LONG AGO. [music] Not only where our people stand, but how we came to love this land.
And when the [music] trade winds touch your face, remember your ancestral place. For every wave upon the sea still carries [music] sacred memory.
>> [music] >> So if one day you cross the tide and see Atana standing [music] high, walk softly there and speak with [music] care.
For ancient spirits still >> [music] >> live there.
And when the sunset meets the sea, the shadows [music] fall across the reef, you may still hear through ocean's spray the voice of Raho far [music] away, calling Ratu Matu the night, guiding generations by his light. And long after the stars [music] grow dim, the waves will still remember him.
Oh, Atana, sacred [music] in the sea. Keeper of our history.
[music] Where the spirits walk through and reign. And Ra's fire still remains.
Moana.
Beyond the reef. Born from [music] sorrow. Born from grief. Every wave [singing] that meets the shore. Still sings of Ra who evermore. [music] And beyond the reef.
>> [music] >> Atana.
Still watches.
Motunui. [music] Sacred eternal.
>> [music] >> Where the spirit of Ra walks forever with the sea.
>> [music]
