The body operates on cycles of activity and rest, similar to how the heart beats and rests, lungs expand and release, and muscles contract and relax. Eating must follow the same principle of feast and fast, intake and rest. The person who never closes the gate (never fasts) is a sick person who may not realize it because the food tastes good.

Eating 1 Meal a Day @MikeRashidOfficial #islam #omadIndexé :
The Honorable Elijah Muhammad taught it. The Quran confirmed it. The body obeys it. One meal a day is not a trend. It is a return. Bismillah. In this Tafakkur reflection I sit with the instruction the Messenger gave us in How to Eat to Live and trace its roots through the Book of Allah and the sunnah of His Prophet ﷺ. Allah says, “Eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He does not like those who commit excess.” (Surah Al-A’raf 7:31). The believer who masters his appetite has begun the greater jihad. The lower self is fed and quieted before it is starved and clarified. The Prophet ﷺ said the son of Adam fills no vessel worse than his stomach. A few morsels are sufficient to keep his back straight. If he must, then a third for food, a third for drink, a third for breath. That is the prophetic measure. Fasting is decree, not suggestion. “O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183). Taqwa is built in the empty stomach. Clarity is born in restraint. Discipline of the body is preparation for discipline of the soul. I walk through what one meal a day does to the body, the mind, the soul, and the wealth. I share how the Messenger framed it, how the Quran confirms it, and how modern science is finally catching up to what was already revealed. This is the food of the disciplined man. The food of the slave of Allah. The food of the one who eats to live and refuses to live to eat. Reflect. Apply. Return. Walk this path with me at mikerashid.com.
A'uzu billahi minashaitanirrajim.
I seek refuge from Allah from Satan, the accursed. Bismillahir rahmanir rahim. In the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful. Ya Allah, please expand for me my chest and ease for me my tasks and untie the knot from my tongue that they may understand my speech. Amen. All right, y'all. This is what I want y'all to do. Have a seat.
Come on in here. Get down. Sit down.
Shut it up. Close the door. Put your phones down unless you're watching on the phone. If that's the case, turn your ringers off. All right. You got to get into this. I'm about to drop some wisdom for y'all. Inshallah. So, what I'm about to teach is going to undo three generations of bad advice. It's going to challenge the food industry that funds the doctors that prescribe the pill that makes the symptom of the meal you should not have even seen in the first place.
The Honorable Elijah Muhammad gave the protocol over 50 years ago. The science, I mean, they they they're they're they're they're they're running around talking about OMAD, OMAD, fasting.
They're barely catching up to what this man who was not educated in these traditional school systems told us 50 over 50 years ago.
The Quran has been telling us this for over 1,400 years. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, he lived it. Now, the protocol is very simple. The protocol is difficult. The protocol is one meal a day. Now, we begin. Let's set it up with the premise. You were taught to eat three meals a day. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Snacks in between. Coffee with cream. Protein bar before the gym. A glass of milk before bed. Who taught you that? Where did you get that from? It was not our beloved Prophet, peace be upon him. It was not the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. It was not your grandma. It was not any of our ancestors from, you know, the continent of Africa pre-slavery. It was not the desert or the mountain man or the disciplined people who walked the earth, the indigenous people who walked the earth and hunted for their food and forest for their food and planted their own uh uh farms and stuff like that. It wasn't that. Pre-supermarket people, none of that. Three meals a day is literally only a marketing schedule. That's it, okay? It was popularized in the industrial America so that the worker could be fueled like a furnace, all right? Taxed every hour and never quite full enough to sit still. Now, the schedule served a factory, not the body, okay? The body was not designed for continuous feeding. You know who are who is? Vegetarians, vegans, like gorillas, like cows, horses. But there's a difference. Their stomachs are complete There's a lot of people that tell you that we're not supposed to eat meat.
That is preposterous, okay? They say, "You got flat teeth." You also have canines. We're omnivores. You have a herbivore herbivore, which is a strictly a plant eater. You have a carnivore that is strictly a meat eater. We're neither.
We are omnivores. We eat plants and animal protein, okay? That's why you have canines. And the biggest sign of an omnivore is a one, our huge brains, and two, eyes in the front of our heads.
Animals that are designed to only eat plants, hear me out, their eyes are on the side of their head, okay? They are prey. They're not predators. Predator eat meat. Predator looks forward like this. Predators have bigger brains.
We're the apex predator because we have the biggest brain as far as proportionate to our bodies, okay? We have eyes in the front. That's a apex predator. Meat eaters, I mean, only plant eaters have their eyes on the side. They're looking out all the time, right? We're on the hunt, so remember that cuz there's a lot of people, you know, some cool people out there, cool brothers out there and sisters that they they're trying their best to align you spiritually and, you know, get you on a healthy path and then you say don't eat meat, but that is not reality, okay?
Human beings would not be human beings had we not figured out how to put fire to food, fire to meat specifically to unlock certain nutrients that you can't get raw and eat meat. That gave our brains so much healthy fat that grew our brains to where it is now and that's why we are the dominant animal organism on this planet, okay? Now, like I said, the animals who also who have the eyes on the side of their head, they also have some of them have multiple stomach, multiple chambers and they have to eat, graze all day long, literally 8 to 10 hours a day, okay? Look at the gorilla, he's constantly eating barks and and and stuff like that. Cows, head down. They're designed to be down like this eating eating eating, grazing all day. Now, that's what you want to do, fine. Or you can, you know, there there is a certain type of vegan industry that serves you things like Beyond Meat. It's beyond me what is inside of Beyond Meat. I have no idea, I can't tell you, so don't ask me. Anyway, that stuff is weird, it's processed, who knows what it is, some Bill Gates energy. If that's what you want to do, if that's what you want to do, I ain't going to judge you. All right. Anyway, the modern man eats every 2 hours, right? And he's always wondering why he's sick. Now, let's look at the prescription, okay? 1967, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad published How to Eat to Live Book 1. 1972, he published How to Eat to Live Book 2. These are not a traditional diet books, okay? These are literally recovery manuals. He wrote those books because he watched a people get murdered, murdered in slow motion by the food that they were given. He saw the diabetes rate, which was through the roof, just like it is now. He saw hypertension through the roof, just like it is now. He saw the strokes that people is having, the heart attacks, amputations, he named the cause, right?
It was a real issue that was happening back then and that's still happening now and it's actually amplified, okay? The slaves was fed the trash that the slave masters didn't want to eat. So, when y'all be like, "Oh, soul food Sunday."
All of that, call it slave food Sunday.
That's slavery food. I'm telling you right now. So, stuff like chitterlings. Chitterlings?
My god. out of my face with that.
Like, I'm sorry, but get out of my face with the chitterlings. Like, come on, man. That's hog guts, pig guts, intestines. You know what's in intestines, right?
Okay, it starts with an S and with a T, all right? Yeah, exactly. So, chitterlings, hogmog, hooves, pig hooves. That's which is crazy. There's an Amber Alert in California.
>> [gasps] >> All right. I feel the need to call this out just in case any of y'all out here.
Amber Alert, Elias Linetis Quintala Quintanilla was taken and believed to be in imminent danger. May Allah protect that person and bring them back to safety, okay? Prayers are for for that person. All right, so listen.
Elijah Muhammad gave us a recovery manual for, you know, a sickness that we have called the American diet. Now, like I said, people who were conditioned under the who suffered under the condition of slavery, my ancestors, you know, they was fed trash, straight trash. Pig feet, corn bread soaked in lard, the cuts and the cuts of the cuts. Not the best parts of the food of the of the meat. Food was greasy, salty, fatty, and extremely toxic. This is the worst This is stuff that animals won't eat. If you ever look at what animals eat, the predators, they're not eating They eat the organs, right? That's a whole 'nother conversation, though. Now, anyway.
400 years later, the descendants still eat the diet that their ancestors ate on the plantations and they call that culture. They call it soul food, but it's not soul food, it's slave food. It murders your soul, it kills your soul, right? The food that had more grease than a soul. That's what that is, right?
The food that still it it literally fills caskets faster than bullets do, and it will continue to fill caskets more than bullets ever will, which is which is really crazy because you hear about violence in certain cities and so on and so forth. Why are we not hearing about this spiritual violence? Why are we not hearing about nutritional violence? Cuz that is a violence that is killing people non-stop, white and black, not just us, all right? Now, Elijah Muhammad, he said the believer can eat one meal every other day for even greater purification, and that's a fact. The less you eat, the longer you live, if you didn't know. Anyway, one meal a day is not OMAD. OMAD is a fitness trend, okay? It's uh macro hack, right? It's [clears throat] biohacking, it's a way to eat junk and still hit your protein numbers, right? Like they have if if I F I M, if it fits your macros, stuff like that, right? So, they can eat a little, but it'd be pizza ice cream or something like that, and that's it. Now, that's not what we did, that's not what we're on because that is a lack of discipline. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad's one meal a day is something completely different than this modern OMAD, okay? It is a way of life, all right? It is the restoration of dignity to a stomach that is meant to be small, all of us. Now, this is what your body was actually built for. For most human history, food was hard to come by, was scarce. It was not in an abundance like it is now. Food was hard to come by, it was seasonal, and you had to earn it.
You're burning calories getting to the food. Now, the body had to be efficient, it had to store fat when the food was available and burn fat when the food was not. Now, that is metabolic flexibility at its finest. That is a healthy efficient metabolism. So, people think, oh, fast metabolism, that's it. Slow metabolism, that's bad. Like, no. An efficient metabolism Sorry, an efficient metabolism can do both. All right? And that's how your metabolism should be. It should be flexible. Now, our modern-day man and woman have lost it. Lost it. Modern man eats every 2 hours. Insulin stays high.
The body forgets how to burn its own fat. Actually, the body doesn't even get the opportunity to burn fat. Y'all know how this works. It's very simple. It's very simple how the body deals with the energy that you put in it. First, I want to get this into your head. I want you to understand this. I want to make this very simple. I am in the fitness industry. I have been for many years and I see peers of mine, they make nutrition and how to lose weight or lose fat super complicated and it's not. I want to make it simple for you. Fats, carbs, protein, those are the food sources or energy sources that your body uses. Your body needs to consume food. Food is energy.
Your body needs to consume energy. Now, think about a car. It needs gasoline to burn so it can go, so it can combust, right? The same with the body. We need food. That is our energy that allows us to go, to breathe, to move, to think, right? Everything requires energy. Now, unlike a car, we We use three different forms of energy. Cars use gasoline.
Well, most cars now they use electricity, but the traditional car uses gasoline only, petroleum, right?
You fill it up. It can't overfill. It can't get It can't stretch. It's a mechanical structure, so a car can't get fat, obviously. If you keep going past its limit, it's just going to spill out.
The human body can stretch. It can get fat, okay? So, it's a big difference.
Now, so with the car I'm sorry, with the body using three sources of energy, the most easily accessible form of energy that the body likes to use first is called carbohydrates, okay? It's fast, it's easy, it could just get it and go.
Now, the second form is fat. Now, you hear a lot of talk about carbs, too many carbs, carbs this, carbs that. Carbs do not make you fat. It's just a a source of energy. Fat makes you fat. An excess of fat and not burning that fat off makes you fat, okay? Now, here's the thing. When you're eating three times a day, four times a day, however many times a day that you're eating, chances are you're not burning off the carbohydrates that you've eaten in each meal to be able to start burning off fat. And this is how this is why 70% of all Americans are overweight. This is why 40-something percent of all Americans are obese. And these numbers are constantly going up. People are not working out after every meal, you're not, right? So, you're compounding your interest of carbohydrates, which in turn is compounding the fat. Your body never gets to burn the fat. That makes sense, capiche? It's a very simple equation.
The last source that your body will use is protein, and that is extremely rare that your body is eating that during such starvation that your body's eating the protein and you loot wasting muscle like that. No. When people have lost a little weight cuz they ain't eat much in a couple days, you haven't touched your muscle, right?
Your muscle may not be inflamed from training or something like that, but you lost fat, you lost water. It is so difficult to lose muscle. Now, you can lose muscle due to atrophy, to not using it, but you're not losing it as far as your body using your muscle as uh fuel because it's If you got any kind of wiggle in your stomach, you're not hungry and you're you still have fat to be burnt off, all right? I hope that's clear to y'all.
Anyway, the body your body our body is a system of cycles, okay? The heart beats, it rests. Beats, rests. The lungs expand, release. Expand, release. These are systems. Even your muscles will contract and it will relax, okay? The mind focuses and wonders. Everything is a system, okay? The body sleeps and it becomes awake. Now, eating has to do the same flow. It has to follow the same law. It needs a system as well. Feast and fast. Intake and rest. Open the gate and close the gates. The man who never closes the gate is a sick man. He did He just may not know it yet because it tastes good. Now, let's look at the mechanism of how all of this work. You have insulin. Remember that, right? Now, the biology of this is very important.
This is something you got to really like lock into your mind. Every time that you eat, your blood sugar rises, all right?
Your pancreas releases insulin to bring it back down. Now, insulin is a hormone that opens the cell doors and let sugar either be used or it have it stored. And if it's stored, it's being stored for fat. Now, if you eat three times a day, you have three insulin spikes. If you snack, you have a flat line of elevated insulin that never drops. Well, Mike receipt, what's what's wrong with that?
What is that? What is that? Let me break it down to you. Let me It's a problem with that. Your cells do not like to be like shouted at every day. When insulin keeps knocking at the door, the cell gets tired of answering, right? It puts in ear plugs. That insulin That That's what we call insulin resistance, okay?
So, you are just spiking it so much.
Your cells are not bringing it back down. It's just staying elevated. That's a problem. Insulin resistance is a a gateway and it leads to many things. One of them is weight gain. Another is inflammation. Another one is a fatty liver, right? And then high blood pressure and then the worst of all, type 2 diabetes, okay? In terms of fan on, you know, it's hot. It's hot It's hot cuz we up here and you're cooking. But not fat food, soul food, all right?
Bars. Bars. Listen. Now, on the flip side, when you eat one meal a day, hold on. When you eat one meal a day, your insulin spikes once, then it drops for however many 20-something hours. Your cells get to rest. The receptors recover. The sensitivity returns. That's what you want. You want your receptors to be sensitive, okay? Now, you don't want them to get used to just, you know, just insensitive to the insulin. Now, the pancreas, you know, everything is relieved. Your pancreas, your liver, your cells. This is all very important.
So, y'all got to understand this. The reason that diabetes run through our community like the plague is not just the food. It's the actual schedule of the food. Now, the food is something that we definitely have to be mindful of the type of energy that you're putting in your body, right? If you drive a Rolls-Royce, you're not putting, what is it, 85 so 80s Whatever. You're not putting a lower octane, 87, I believe.
You're not putting a lower octane gasoline in your Mercedes, okay? Now, the same with your food. What kind of food How much do you value your body?
You're going to put cheap trash energy or high-performance high-octane energy? Energy being food.
Now, your food schedule is a huge issue, right? In regards to diabetes. Three meals a day plus snacks plus sugar plus stress plus alcohol plus cigarettes, you know, it it is that leads to a pancreas that is just breaking down before you even 50 years old, okay? That's a lot of wear and tear on your body. The one meal a day man does not feed that disease, okay? Now, we're going to move to a a section about autophagy. You have heard me talk about this many times and I'm going to keep talking about it. When the body has been without food for around 16 to 20 hours, something profound happens.
I Y'all know what it is? It is autophagy. The cells turn inward and starts eating its own garbage, okay?
That's what autophagy is, essentially.
The word autophagy is Greek and it means self-eating. Auto is self, autophagy autophagy fagy fagy means eating.
Self-eating. The cell finds damaged proteins, broken mitochondria, misfolded structures in our DNA. These are also viral fragments. This is how people get sick, get diseases and whatnot. Toxic debris, right? It packages them up nice and concisely and then it recycles them for energy or it eliminates them, okay?
It's called killer cells. Now, this is the body's cleaning crew. This is a natural cellular janitor, right? When you eat all day, the cleaning crew never clocks in. They just don't. The garbage piles up, the cells get dirty, dirty cells become disease cells, the disease cells becomes the cancerous cell. There was a a Japanese doctor named Osh Osumi. He won a Nobel Prize in for physiology of medicine in 2016 for his work on the mechanisms of autophagy. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad was teaching this five decades before that man got that prize.
Like, where's Where's uh Elijah Muhammad's award? He didn't He didn't even do it with a microscope. He did it with the direction and the word in the service of God. Yo, am I frozen?
Am I frozen? Okay. All right.
All right, y'all. So, now, listen this. Inside every cell, there are tiny power plants called mitochondria. They take in nutrients and nutrients, oxygen, and they kind of put it together and they produce the energy, the currency or the actual food that the the body needs for energy, and it's called ATP. The more efficient that your mitochondria is, the more energy that you actually have. The cleaner your mitochondria, the longer you live. This is just a fact. The stronger the mitochondria, the sharper your mind is working. Constant eating dulls the mito- mitochondria. Constant eating dulls your mitochondria.
They become weak. They become slow.
They produce energy, but very poorly.
They generate excess free radicals. They contribute to aging. They accelerate aging and they open the floodgates for disease. Fasting does the opposite.
Fasting signals the body to build new mitochondria. That process is called mitochondrial biogenesis, okay? The old All the old cells and mitochondria, whatever, they get pushed out or cleared out for by autophagy, the self-eating.
The new ones are built. Now, this is how you really start upgrading the engine while the car is parked, okay? Can't upgrade the engine while it's running.
You got to get it? Now, fasting changes the hormonal landscape of the body in just very direct, practical, measurable ways. Growth hormone rises. Uh there's so many studies and um research done that shows growth hormone increasing sevenfold during extended fast, naturally. Growth hormone preserves muscle, it builds fat, I'm sorry, it burns fat, and it supports overall tissue repair. You just have a overall higher cell uh sense of viability in your life. Like you feel great. You It's like they call it a a fountain of youth.
You start reverse aging to a degree. You also have a brain-derived neurotrophic factors, that's BDNF, right? And that is the fertilizer for the brain. It's so important. It supports the growth of new neurons. It strengthens existing connections. It protects against cognitive decline.
Ghrelin and leptin, they start reciprocating or or recalibrating. This is very important. Let Let me out, y'all. Then ghrelin is a hunger hormone. It's the hunger hormone. Leptin is a fullness hormone. When you are abusing your body and your hormones, they stop working.
The signals get scrambled. The body will never know if it's hungry or is it full, right? So, fasting resets all of that stuff and your body start operating properly. So, when you do eat, you feel full. You don't need plates upon plates.
Listen, it's it's really incredible for those of you who are lean, who've never really crossed over and become overweight. You have a hard time understanding, how can somebody just keep eating? It feels horrible, right?
They have abused themselves so much that they don't feel those hormones turned on that makes you feel full, okay? It just doesn't exist. That's why you could keep eating and eating and eating. Most people, we all start out with a high degree of ghrelin and and leptin.
But a lot of times, people abuse it, abuse it, abuse it. The more you eat and then it just stops working. So, you can just get food Look, I get it. Food tastes amazing, incredible.
And the worse the more unhealthy the food is, the better it tastes.
But we got to be mindful of it and we have to be very intelligent about how we do this, right? You want to eat to live You don't want to live to eat, you want to eat to live, all right? Remember that. So, another thing that happens is your inflammation in the body, it starts going down, right? Chronic low-grade inflammation is at the root of pretty much every disease that you can you can think of. Fasting reduces inflammation markers all throughout the body and the blood. The body in a fasted state is a body that is in constant repair, recovery, recalibration, all of those things. The man who eats once a day is not starving himself, he's healing himself. Okay?
Now, now let's connect it all of this back to the law. Allah commanded fasting in the Quran, Sura Al-Baqarah.
Baqarah Baqarah, I'm sorry, verse 183.
Now, the verse says, "Fasting was prescribed for the believer as it was prescribed for those before so that the believer will attain taqwa." Taqwa is the heart of the matter. Taqwa, we've talked about this before. I think we should do a whole talk on taqwa.
Taqwa is God consciousness, okay? The awareness of Allah. That produces restraint. Knowing Allah's right here.
You're not alone. You're never alone.
Allah's always watching. Now, the awareness taqwa is the awareness that you are seen even when no one is watching, none of us is watching. It's the thing that stops the hand before it reaches for what is haram, forbidden.
It's the thing that stops the eye before it lingers. It's the thing that stops the tongue before it lies. Fasting builds taqwa because fasting is the daily practice of saying no when your body or your eyes says yes. The body says drink, you say not yet. Your body says eat, you say after Maghrib. The body says sleep, you say it's Fajr time.
And I have to work on that myself. Like my words by Allah. Anyway, every no to the body is a yes to Allah. Remember that. Every time you tell yourself no or something that you want, right?
Pleasure, food, whatever. You're saying yes to Allah. Ramadan, I love Ramadan so much because that's like a training camp. It's boot camp. One meal a day is, for me though, is a year-round practice.
Now, Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, he ate very sparingly. There were days when no fires was lit in his home for cooking.
There were nights when he tied he tied a stone to his stomach to suppress the hunger. He fasted Mondays and Thursdays as a regular practice. You know, we do Mondays. Our beloved Prophet, peace be upon him, did Mondays and Thursdays. He fasted uh the white days of every month, the 13th, the 14th, the 15th. He he fasted uh What was it called? Shaban, right? He said, "The son of Adam fills no vessel worse than his stomach." He said, "Few morsels to keep with a few morsels to keep the back straight is sufficient. If a man must eat more, then a third for food, a third for water, and a third for breath." Think about that. That was a authentic hadith. That was a whole protocol in just one sentence. This is beautiful. A third for food, a third for water, and a third for breath. What do we do nowadays? What does the modern man do? The modern man fills his whole stomach with food, then layers it with more food, then drinks soda on top of that. The stomach has no room to breathe. The diaphragm literally can't move. The lungs cannot fill. The body is suffocating itself from the inside.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "Do not just teach the principle, live the principle." And that's what he did.
The greatest man in the history of mankind ate the least. Now, >> [snorts] >> uh Y'all with me? Y'all good? Let me go to the chat. Let me see what y'all all talking about. Wish it wasn't delayed. I can't really meaningfully dialogue with them cuz it's delayed. Does it look like it's delayed for you? Okay. All right.
>> [snorts] >> So, now this is something that I I'm not going to sit here and talk to you guys about things that I'm not doing and partaking in.
So, I'mma tell you how I run my day.
Wake up before Fajr most days. Pray, drink something like some water or some nectar, uh and or Hydro Glyph. And my body is still in a fasted state. Hydro Glyph nectar is a negligible amount of calories, so it doesn't set off any uh metabolic uh triggering in the body. So, you are technically still in a fasted state just like water or coffee, magic coffee that is, right? I train first thing in the morning. Train look fasted, empty stomach. I train heavy, I train hard. It's 6:36 p.m. right now. I still haven't eaten, right? The body is burning fat for fuel. And you can tell when you're burning fat a lot because you're hot. You tend to run a little bit hotter, right? The brain is releasing BDNF. And you could tell because you want to just fire up and do lectures when you weren't even planning on it tonight. The hormones are flowing. The mind the man of the mind is sharper, hungrier than full. This is a bio This is a evolutionary advantage us having a sharper mind on an empty stomach. And then I go through my day, work, calls, meetings, buildings, mentoring, content.
The mind is clear because the gut is empty. Digestion does not steal blood from the brain. The cells are doing autophagy. The body is chilling while I'm doing all of my my things throughout the day. This is a wonderful thing. I eat in the evening one meal, clean food, real food, veggies, avocado, salmon or or some kind of beef, just healthy clean stuff, water, you know, nectar again, you know, stuff like that.
And guess what? When I actually eat, it tastes so good. It tastes amazing because, you know, I've earned that meal. I look at my day like I'm hunting and I have to earn my food. I have to go out and work. I got to work out. I got to work work, you know, make money and then I can enjoy my food, okay? So, we don't have to actually hunt for food anymore, but we should. We should be conducting our days and our lives as if we are hunting for food, okay? After that, pray, read, sleep, boom, it's done. The body repairs in the dark.
The next day I start at the same way.
The only times I'm not doing that is typically on the weekends. On the weekends I I may eat a little bit more because my fiance is a phenomenal chef and she makes really delicious things and I like to be the taste tester.
That's on the weekends, but that's not every weekend and I don't go so crazy.
But that is the rhythm. That is my rhythm. That is the law that I govern myself by. That is the protocol upon which I built my life on. I've been Listen, I've done one meal a day when I was younger and then I stopped and I got really big, muscular, all of that, right? I was eating a lot. But I I think it was 2016 is when I went back to one meal a day, okay? And then I kind of like fell off of one meal a day a little bit, but in 2024 I got back hardcore one meal a day. So, it's really one meal a day. I'm not snacking throughout the day. I'm eating one meal a day. Now, you don't you don't necessarily jump into one meal a day from a snacking habit. Now, I'm a person that go I can go cold turkey on anything like that, right? But that's not a reality for most people. So, be realistic. Build into it, okay? One week, just if you're eating all throughout the day, just try cutting breakfast out for now, okay? Just try that. I know you think you need it. You don't. They have programmed into your mind that you need breakfast. Breakfast means break the fast, okay? You haven't fasted. Maybe a little bit while you slept, right? But you need to give yourself a longer fasting window, a longer period of time. Now, you might feel hungry or think that you're hungry.
I assure you you're not. Real hunger takes days, all right? When your body's eating away at itself. If you have fat on your body, it doesn't You're not hungry. So, So, you want to ease into it, okay? Each week just kind of scale back a meal.
Just give it a try. I think that's a a real practical way of doing it. You don't have to jump into a cold turkey, like I said earlier. But for those crazy people like myself, you know, you kind of like built like that. All right? So, anyway, when you do do this, the first week is going to test you.
But good. Say alhamdulillah. Thank God for that test, because every test that Allah places in front of us makes us stronger. It makes us more resilient, okay? It makes us more obedient. As a matter of fact, when y'all pray, this this is a suggestion. When you're making dua, for those of you who are not familiar with an Islamic way of praying, we have five obligatory prayers. So, when we pray, there's very specific things that we're saying. But then after that is a direct conversation with our creator, with God. You know, it's called dua. So, when you're making your dua, first thing you do, this is what I do, I ask Allah to make me more obedient. Make me a better man. Make me a better Muslim. Make me more obedient to you.
Make me more useful to other people. But the first thing I always ask for is obedience, more obedience, more obedience. So, ask for that, and it it'll happen. It'll you will start becoming more obedient to to God. That's it. Not man, but to God.
All right? I want y'all to try this.
Y'all put in the chat if y'all going to try this. Say yes if you are. And say no if you're not. It's all It's all good, you know? Because I'm going to tell you something like this, like the benefits of the body from this form of eating is real [clears throat] but and it's great but the benefits of your spirit is even better. It is just incredible.
When you eat one meal a day, the meal becomes of remembrance. You sit down and you remember the one who provided it.
You taste each bite with awareness. You ain't shoving food into a distracted mouth, right? This is what it means to be spiritual. People get get it twisted.
They think that spiritual or being spiritual is a bunch of boo-boo. No, it's about living in alignment, setting your intentions before whatever you do, right? And being aligned with God and God only, right? So, in that way that means you're moving with intent. You're moving in a spiritual nature. So, when you're dealing with people, you're being fair. You're being honest. You're being transparent. That's spiritual. Spiritual is not, you know, chanting and meditating and that's These are just things that people do. To move in a spiritual manner means to move in a godly manner, move in a manner in which God has prescribed for us.
Let me tell you something for those of you who kind of shy away from religion.
You a lot of y'all be like, "No, I got my relationship. I believe in the energy or what whatever you I don't care what you call it. That's fine. But just know that in these holy books, especially the Quran, there is very specific rules and and not suggestions but commandments on how we should be living our lives. And I'mma tell you right now, if you follow these, it works out. Think about this.
Fasting is the most prolific healer of pretty much anything. And it's been popular over the fact past few years.
It's been prescribed to us for thousands of years for all of us, me, you, all of us. It has been in the book but people don't take it serious. People don't take it serious. These books survived civilizations for a reason, okay?
Anyway, I really hope that these words, you know, land with y'all. I hope that y'all give this a try. Appreciate y'all.
Please share the video. If you are not following the channel, please follow the channel. It's called Tafakkur with Mike Rashid. Tafakkur means to sit and to sit with information and ponder over. It's deep reflection, you know, deep reflection.
Plant a seed and nurture it and it will come to harvest, inshallah. Anyway, I see y'all next time.
Salaam alaikum.
