The 1947 Supreme Court case Everson v. Board of Education, which established the 'wall of separation between church and state' in American law, was written by Hugo Black, a former Ku Klux Klan member from Alabama with documented anti-Catholic bias, raising questions about whether personal prejudice influenced this landmark constitutional ruling.

Who Really Wrote Church-State Separation Into Law?Añadido:
Who wrote the Supreme Court decision separating church and state? You know, this is a pretty wild realization. In 1947, you have something called Everson versus the Board of Education, and it's a Supreme Court case where, you know, somebody had brought this and they were challenging the fact that the government, taxpayer dollars were being used to reimburse Catholic schools. Cuz most of the public schools at this point were Protestant, you know, they had prayer, they had Bible study, but because they're Protestant, that's the reason why you have so many Catholic schools, and somebody was like, I don't want my tax dollars going to a Catholic institution. So, it goes before the Supreme Court, and granted, in 1931, the Supreme Court was saying, "We are a Christian people. We have a duty of with reverence to obey the will of God."
Those kinds of decisions in US v.
Macintosh. Well, by 1947, in Everson versus the Board of Education, you have them declaring that there is a wall between church and state. We must keep it high and impregnable. Now, the interesting thing about that is that decision is written by a guy named Hugo Black. Well, why is that interesting?
He's a clansman. He was from Alabama. He was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, and who do the Ku Klux Klan hate? Well, pretty much everybody, but they hate Catholics. And so, clear bias, and that's how we got the wall of separation between church and state.
