THAT DAY MOM ESCAPED AGAIN… Dementia Is Bigger Than “Just Keep Her Home”

People ask me all the time why my mother doesn’t live with me. This video is one of the reasons. Mama waits on opportunities to escape all the time. My husband left the door open not realizing she was at the house. One thing people don’t understand about dementia is that some persons constantly “escape.” They become confused, restless, determined to leave… and once they get outside, it can become dangerous VERY quickly. Not only does it become dangerous, it is H€LL getting back in. Getting them to calm down can be a nightmare! This is so much bigger than “just keep her home.” Keeping someone safe sometimes requires more care, structure and security than the family can physically provide and that’s OK.
