I'm open to fight Ryan again.
If they're not on some hope I text them.
Tell them boys to give me 150 Ms. I'm coming. That's what the mentors are to teach you how to do this thing the smart way and not get you hurt. Not have to take no risk. Not to take many chances.
So, if that's what you learn, why would if that's the easy way out, why not do that? But, y'all can't give him credit for it. So, why y'all can't give him credit for it? He can do the same thing that this Gervonta Davis has reportedly placed a massive price tag on a potential rematch with Ryan Garcia. With discussions mentioning a figure around $150 million.
Davis suggested that his focus is now centered on major financial opportunities after already proving himself against top competition throughout his career. Need to get out of my situation. Mhm. You know what I'm saying? So, that's another thing why I say like once I get to I mean while I'm at this level like it's no point like it's no more point to prove to myself.
Mhm. Cuz I already you feel me? I did what I came to do. Andre Ward said Gervonta Davis seems more focused on securing major paydays and blockbuster fights than chasing legacy-based matchups.
>> [music] >> Ward added that if Tank's priority is business and earnings, fans should not expect him to pursue every fight connected to greatness debates. my take on Davis.
I don't remember the last time that I've heard Gervonta Davis say I'm in boxing to be the greatest fighter of all time.
I can't remember. I've heard him say that he's better than certain guys in his weight class or this kid can't beat me. I've heard that. I can't remember and maybe y'all can keep me honest uh online.
The last time I've heard Gervonta Davis talk about his legacy in the ring.
Like like I'm building my legacy. I'm trying to outdo Floyd in legacy.
Like I think it started like that for him. Andre Ward also pointed out that Gervonta Davis appears [music] to be focusing more on securing major paydays and financial opportunities than chasing legacy-defining fights. [music] Ward explained that if Tank's main priority is building long-term financial security through big events, then [music] people may need to view his career choices differently instead of expecting him to pursue greatness in the traditional way.
>> Influence of Floyd Mayweather, money man, not pretty boy, but the money man, and building your your brand, and selling tickets, and selling pay-per-views, and becoming a household name, that's also a legacy. You got the legacy in the ring, and you got the legacy in terms of how you sold.
I believe Gervonta Davis is more focused on selling tickets, and making money, and securing his future for himself and his family. He said it out of his own mouth, I ain't got nothing else to prove. Well, depends on what your goal is. It depends on what you're what you're trying to do. If you're trying to be one of the greatest fighters of all time, it's still a whole lot to prove. My point is, Roy, I don't think should everybody hold this man to the standard that they hold him to and say, "You not fight nobody. Yeah, you making money, but you ain't really fought nobody." If he don't even care about that, that's not even something that he's really focused on. If his if his main focus is the money, and his main focus is getting out of boxing without getting hurt, and retiring on his own terms, shouldn't shouldn't his fan base and other people get on board with that if he if that's not even his goal? Yeah, they should.
>> How come we hold him to something like that if he don't even hold himself to that? Roy Jones Jr. said Gervonta Davis appears to be following a strategy similar to his mentor's approach, focusing on smart matchmaking, limiting [music] unnecessary risk, and maximizing financial opportunities. Jones added that if that formula worked successfully before, fans should not be surprised to see Tank take a similar path. They definitely should get on board with that. They definitely should because, I mean, his mentor did basically the same thing, so why can't he do it? You know what I'm saying? He made more money than anybody.
He was smarter than everybody. He didn't take too many stupid risks. That's what he did, and it worked for him. And people are okay with that and accepting it, so why can't Tank do it? Tank can do the same thing the mentor did. That's what the mentors They teach you how to do this thing the smart way and not get you hurt. Not have to take no risk. Not to take any chances. So, if that's what you learn, why if that's the easy way out, why not do that? But, y'all gave him credit for it, so why y'all can't give him credit for it? He can do the same thing that this guy did. Everybody had their own mentors, their own powerful pals, their own people they want to be like. If he want to be like that guy that y'all, you know what I'm saying, is great and was one of the best ever, why can't he do it? So, I'm cool with whatever he say he want to do. In my old day, On the other side, Ryan Garcia predicted a knockout victory over Gervonta Davis, saying he believes this is his time and that Tank is not unbeatable. Garcia also downplayed Davis as a threat and expressed confidence that he could win convincingly. [music] I'm going to knock out Gervonta Davis, I promise you. Hear my words, this is my moment, this is my time. He will not beat me. There's nothing terrifying about this guy. I'm going to beat him so easy, he's going to be like, "Ooh, sprinkle." Boom. Ryan Garcia has continued calling for a rematch with Gervonta Davis, >> [music] >> but said Tank needs to become active again first. Garcia added that as a champion, he feels the pressure is now on other fighters to step up, while making it clear he is not concerned if they choose not to take a fight. Love to. I would love to. I think he needs to clean some of his act up and get back in the sport. We all want to see him back.
Um, including myself, so I can run it back with him. But, he I don't think we're going to fight for a long time. He won't go up to 147 either.
A lot of these guys, they're they want me to take the risk and go lower all the time, but they won't do it.
Sounds a little to me, especially in the fact that I'm always willing I can't always be willing to take the extra step to make the fight happen. I've done [music] that year and year and year out.
And now that I'm world champion, you're going to have to come to me now. And [music] if you don't want to, I don't really need you anyway, so what does it matter?
The thing about Tank before, [music] you know, he thought that people really need >> On the other side, Gervonta Davis has returned to training with a strong focus on improving his conditioning, sharpening his skills, and refining the style and strategy he plans to use in his next fight.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> You know, Shakur Shakur is different, you know, people may call him boring, [music] people may say he can't punch, but they said the same thing about Floyd cuz they defensive fighters. Yeah.
Tank is not going to be able to hit Shakur like he hit everybody else. And he know that.
He knows that. That's why he's like he's boring, he's this, he's that. He's trying to diminish everything that Shakur have done.
So, it's not mark Shakur Stevenson made it clear that he believes Gervonta Davis can be beaten, pointing to skill, movement, and ring IQ as the keys [music] to the matchup. Stevenson said his style, defense, and ability to stay elusive would create serious problems for Tank inside the ring.
Uh far as [music] what?
Better, god dammit. Who you got down?
Yeah.
>> [laughter] >> Uh I First, like skills, You know, them boxers always trying to You know what I'm saying?
You know Nah, cuz you asked me some real It's like sure.
>> It's hard to say with dude cuz like his only loss was when he got cheated.
Like he really got cheated. Like people could say whatever the [ __ ] they want, but >> [music] >> seeing him get cheated it's hard to really just go against dude.
But like from a skill standpoint, I would say just because of he's trickier. Like he tricky. He going to catch you with some [ __ ] that you don't see, so I'm going to say that [ __ ] Oh damn, I just said this [ __ ] name out loud, but I'm going to say dude. Dude, all right.
Meanwhile, Stephen [music] A. Smith shared his thoughts on a possible Ryan Garcia versus Gervonta Davis matchup, saying he believes the fight would probably end by knockout. He noted that Garcia's speed could create problems, but trading shots with Tank is extremely risky, which is why the matchup feels so explosive. The two hardest ones for me, man. I don't think Garcia and and Tank Davis are going [music] to dis Somebody getting knocked out.
When you say somebody, who? Who?
Anybody? Who do you think?
I I'm going to put I'm going to go with Tank Davis. Here's what I'm [music] believing.
If Ryan Garcia with his quickness and his length stays way he can do some things. But I think because of all the chirping, he going to find himself in the situation where he's trying he going to engage with Gervonta Davis. That is a mistake.
He's done. That is a mistake.
You engage with Gervonta Davis, he taking you out. That is what I believe.
But be clear. Ryan Garcia is lightning quick with power and Gervonta is one of those dudes he don't mind taking just so he can give.
Andre Ward said a fight involving Gervonta Davis would likely be competitive, but he slightly favors Tank because of his experience and overall development as a fighter. Ward noted that while both boxers have strong amateur foundations, Davis looks more polished and complete, using his ring IQ to create openings for his power rather than depending on power alone. I think you got to favor Tank 55-45, 60-40, whatever it is, because just when you watch him, you see pedigree. And Ryan's got pedigree, too. He came up in the amateur system, the whole nine, but I see more seasoning. I see more uh just see more with Tank.
Like he says complete. I can see him he can do more.
And I see a high IQ. People talk about the power, but you got to think about the IQ that set that power up. Oh, that's the fight. I Everybody want to see that. That's the 50-50, I think, you know what I'm saying? I've been saying 50-50. I told both of them that. That's a toss-up to me. Uh no bias. Don't just say that cuz it's your man. Who you got winning that? I got Shakur.
Are you saying that cuz that's your man and you don't like Tank?
>> no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Hey, like I said, I respect Tank fi- like boxing, he's one of the ones.
>> Yeah.
We going to take [clears throat] We going to take his personality and personal things out of it. Mhm.
Boxing, he's definitely talented. You [music] know what I mean? And he's definitely got that it. And uh yeah, he's definitely respected in boxing.
But Shakur is a different fighter. Andre Ward also suggested the fight would likely begin at a careful pace, with both fighters taking the first few rounds to adjust and read each other. He expected tactical exchanges early [music] before the action gradually became more intense as the fight settled in.
>> [music] >> First round or two maybe maybe a little slow, but >> to get in a hold sometimes.
>> But every based on the styles and the offenses of both guys, Anytime they engage is going to be exciting. So, you know, they're going to have moments where they where they tangle in the first two or three rounds, for sure. And I think it's just going to pick up as the fight goes on.
>> Edgar Berlanga described it as one of the biggest fights of the year and praised both fighters for being willing to face elite competition. He said matchups like this help push boxing forward because they encourage other fighters to stop avoiding dangerous opponents over money issues or A-side versus B-side arguments. According to Berlanga, fans simply want to see the best fight the best. That's one of the biggest fights right now of the year.
You know, you got two guys that's that's doing something great for the sport, you know, they they definitely making it happen. They actually putting all the good fighters to fight each other now. Like, what they did is making fighters want to fight each other. You know what I'm saying? Like, they opened up that barrier for that. What boxing needs. Yeah, yeah, definitely. You know, you got a lot of guys that's talking to each other or all the money ain't right or this ain't right or they want to be the A-side or they want to be You know, they don't want to be the B-side. Um, but yeah, man, they definitely making it happen and I'm happy to Caleb Plant also showed strong support for Gervonta Davis, saying he has known Tank and his team for a long time and respects them greatly. Plant [music] added that he is not just supporting Davis to win, but believes he will get the victory by stoppage. You know, he's one of my favorite fighters. I've known him for a a long time, him and Coach Calvin. Got a lot of love and respect for him. And um, that's my guy, Tank. Not only am I rooting for him, but I believe he's going to get him about to get him.
>> Tank has it all. And it's just it's it's very interesting because we have a guy who's so good and so offensive and so destructive. And then we have another guy who's so defensive and so hard to hit and such a good judge of distance.
It's it's a very, very interesting weight class, 135, which is exactly why we're talking about it right now. At the same time, the demand [music] for Shakur Stevenson versus Gervonta Davis fight keeps growing with fans continuing to push [music] for the match up.
Meanwhile, Tank has remained locked in during training, >> [music] >> focusing heavily on his power, timing, and accuracy through long sessions on the mitts and heavy bag.
Shakur Stevenson also showed confidence about a potential fight with Gervonta Davis, saying the only real way to settle things is inside the ring.
Stevenson also called on Tank to make the fight official and face him on a major stage in front of the fans worldwide.
>> you, but like I said, if any fighter have a issue with me, cuz I feel like Teo was jealous of me. I told him this several times.
Any fighter have any issue with me, let's do it. Sign the contract, turn the lights on bright, let millions come around us the seats to see what's happening, and pull up on me.
A boxing analyst noted that Gervonta Davis often relies on his knockout power to finish fights and secure major victories, [music] but suggested a match up with Shakur Stevenson would present a very different challenge. The analyst compared the stylistic contrast to Deontay Wilder versus Tyson Fury, adding that if Tank is unable to land the stoppage, the fight could become frustrating because [music] of Stevenson's movement, defense, and ring control. Think it affected you? No, I mean I think everything happened for a reason. Yeah. So, like it happened the way that it was supposed to happen. And if I had to do it all over again, I would do the same thing again, but um Was it fair? No, I I'm a fighter at the end of the day and I got painted images as like a Mhm. And I'm not built like that, so like I don't know how like Who painted that image?
When I got in the ring and I fought with one hand Mike Tyson shared support for Gervonta Davis while discussing a possible fight with Shakur Stevenson, calling the match-up very intriguing.
Tyson praised Stevenson's technical skill and defensive ability, noting that he handles pressure well even if his style is sometimes [music] viewed as less entertaining. He also said fighters like Tank who bring non-stop pressure and aggression are the kind of opponents needed to truly test Shakur while describing Davis as one of boxing's most dangerous fighters. It felt like y'all was like y'all was a big three at at at that moment. Did it feel like that from your perspective at at that time?
Uh yeah, I felt like them guys was fighters.
Um Through the years I I I don't give these guys credit. I'd love to see Shakur and Gervonta.
You know, I think Gervonta Gervonta and anybody in that any of the top guys in that weight class is a great fight.
Gervonta Shakur, Gervonta Teo Gervonta Keyshawn I mean that 135 to 140-lb uh weight class is hot right now, you know what I mean? Um But that would be a great fight. I think probably that would be one of the fights that be the most anticipated, you know, um if they can make happen Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson. By no means it would be easy for either fighter, you know, we just showed we just seen that Shakur Stevenson [music] was able to shut a great fighter like Teofimo down and made him look silly.
So that would be a great fight, you know, and a big shout-out to Shakur Stevenson becoming a four-time >> [music] >> uh division champion. You know, he's on legendary status. He's on his way to be a Hall of Famer, too, and he's still very young.
