Preventing fuel leaks requires proper sealing techniques and attention to connection points. Fiberglass resin reinforces areas prone to leaks. Rubber hoses must be properly clamped to prevent fuel escape. Carburetors require specific fuel pressure (typically around 3 psi) to operate correctly. Leaking carburetor bowls indicate worn gaskets or excessive pressure. O-ring seals are critical for preventing fuel leaks at connection points. Different carburetors may require different pressure settings. Regular maintenance involves inspecting seals, gaskets, and ensuring correct pressure regulation. Proper fuel system maintenance ensures safe vehicle operation and prevents fuel-related hazards.

All righty. We're at Chris's place and Chris has got the What? You put in the fuse.
>> The uh fuel pump relay.
>> Chris hasn't got a mic this present time. I lost the mic. So, he put in a fuel pump relay.
>> Yes, >> fuel pump relay.
>> I'm just fastening to the firewall right now. Okay. So, what's going to happen is I brought the gas tank over. I'm going to try to put the gas tank in.
We're going to turn it over and then we're going to see if it pops. And if it pops, then we'll take Emily back here to the muffler and then we'll let you know what it sounds like. I think there's a lot of people wants to know what it sounds like if it takes off. But I'm going to put the gas tank in right now.
Chris is going to be doing what he's doing. Let's see what I got to do. He's got a rubber hose over here coming up through the hole.
You can just tuck that under and then you can put it on after you get the tank in.
>> I'd rather put it on the tank and then shove the tang in. That'd be much easier to get that clamp on.
>> Don't you have a little over the bottom?
>> I do.
How How are you cutting this off, Chris?
With Xacto knife or you got a knife to cut it?
>> I use side cutters.
>> Okay.
>> Can I use your side cutters? You got a pair of side cutters that cut. Okay, I'm going to go for it. I'm going to cut it off. Hope I cut it off the right length.
>> Mhm.
I'm going to go right there.
>> Sharp are nice to cut with.
>> They're snap off ones.
>> Oh, not used to working with them tools, Chris.
>> Not used to it.
>> They get dull, you just ask for a new pair.
>> Is that what happens?
>> Yeah.
I wonder if I got that too high or cut off a little bit straighter. Make a little bit nicer.
>> If you get it a little long, we can just adjust it on the bottom side.
>> Okay, that makes sense.
All righty.
Now, a little easier and put it on down through.
>> Yes.
for that.
I do have a clamp for it. I bring it with me.
I do not have the quarter inch or the flathead wrench or screwdriver though.
>> Quarter inch. Yeah.
Yeah. Let's get that in there a little bit better.
I don't know.
>> Switch sides with me >> here. Chris, can you shove that on?
Hold that like that.
Can that be shoved on?
>> Oh, yeah. You want to put that B on first, don't you?
>> Cut it short anyway, didn't you? I don't think >> I think it's better off to put on the bottom. Just shove down through the hole and put it on the bottom.
>> You think?
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. You can get it on there.
>> Yeah.
>> It's a hard spot to get to. I found that.
>> Well, yeah, we'll need that underneath.
>> What's that? I >> cut off down there. You can't have that.
No. And not having them rattling all the time. No way.
No way.
That'd be quite a noise have them down in there rattling.
You wouldn't be long trying to get it out.
I had to replace a 10 mil deep uh 1/4 in socket this week. It's $56. I couldn't believe it.
>> For a socket.
>> Just for one socket I lost last week somewhere.
>> Someone's car. No problem. Might be this one.
I br some stuff.
I think I like I guess it don't matter what I like, but what fits, I guess, is the bane thing that goes on.
I like these little flatheaded nut things, but I don't know if that's far enough or I'm sorry.
Why can't I find the hole? There it is.
I'm thinking that'll work.
Okay.
Oh, boys, boys, boys, boies.
>> The boys got the air condition. You don't?
>> We'll go with that for now.
I have to bolt that in there yet. Just put some gas in it.
I got I got a bolt right there.
>> You need some bolts?
>> No, I bring over a couple bolts with me.
I don't know if I should use them flathead bolts or not. It probably hard to be hard to get out. What's going to happen?
putting bolts and nuts in or are we going to put the inserts in?
>> I got nuts and bolts in there right now.
I just wondered what nut and bolt I should put in there. Probably a bolt should what I should put in there, but I don't know if I drilled the hole big.
>> I do have them rivet nuts here.
>> Rivet nuts.
>> Yeah.
>> I like those.
>> Use them a lot.
>> I just took that out. Think I'm getting that back in.
Where does that go now?
>> Sure.
Guess it wasn't holding my tongue right.
I guess I got the back in again.
Hard to get in and out.
I want to try one of these and drill a hole big enough for that.
So, I'm going to go with these.
No.
This'll bolt that. I should have a clamp for that. There's a bolt sticking down through that one. The wires in back there to pull them up through. I'm not sure. Get his hand down through. He should be able to grab them somehow, I suppose. some kind of even a coat hanger or something and pull the wires up so we can have put them onto the gas or the uh fuel gauge. Like he said, the firewall has to go back in for the um oil pressure gauge cuz it's it's a mechanical. Like he said last time I was here, next time do wire cuz wire is easier. Now I understand.
Um yeah. So I think what's going to happen is we're probably going to go back up in the air.
I'll probably be going I'll probably stay in the car and be up here to hold the top of the bolts for the gas tank.
We'll probably tighten the gas tank down.
I don't really have to tighten the gas tank down. I have all kinds of clips and stuff at home that I probably should have brang for that. We'll see how that goes. Maybe I can stick the the nozzle right down inside so we don't have to get any leakage.
It's going to put the gas in now. He's not hooked up.
>> Yep. Eddie, >> can you tell I'm sweating?
>> Little bit.
>> Holy smokes, it's hot.
>> It's nice to see the car again down around the ground again. Kind of forget what it looks like. Kind of forgot what it looked like.
We'll just wait for Chris. I think we're going to have to put we're going to have to put it back up. I'm thinking I could have got that on that tank, but he shoved it down through. Now it's I'm not going to get it on the tank.
Now it's got to go back up in the air to put that rubber hose back on.
Ready to go up?
>> I guess so. I I think so. I mean, I got the tank sitting there. Haven't got the just >> Should I sit inside? You figure to uh >> Yeah, you might have to hold them in for a flatter or maybe or they just carriage bolts.
>> They're just a carriage bolt. They got a flat for a flat screwdriver, but >> I'll give you one just in case.
>> Just a small thing.
Thought I'd bring the right bolts and I did. Never go home without a toothpicker. Never leave home without a toothpicker.
Here's the two nuts for them to fit.
Um, all righty. I guess I'm going to go inside.
>> You go inside and I'll put you up here in a minute.
>> Okay.
You all set?
>> I guess so.
>> Going for a ride.
>> Yeah. You don't need a flashlight in there, >> I don't think. Are you going to be able to fish them wires up in the back behind that gas tank or do you want >> It's already Well, it's right there.
>> Like you got a >> Yeah, you can fish that.
>> Yep.
>> I said that about reaching the tail lights, too.
Look what happened to those.
What'd you do this weekend, the esavator building a road back so the gym can get the wood out.
>> Okay.
>> Went for a bike ride.
>> I bought bikes last year.
>> And you went for a bike ride?
>> Yep.
>> Where did you go? Up the road.
>> Oh wow.
I was home half jealous there for a second. go for a bike ride.
>> She's got a bad knee, so it's kind of fighting on a bike.
>> Well, let's face it. We're not We're not 15 anymore.
Are you able to get that hose on that?
>> Oh, okay.
>> It is.
>> I can't get at Can I screw it on?
>> That sound >> it. Well, I heard something hit.
>> I can't even feel it.
>> Okay.
>> Like there's only probably an inch between boxed up over top of the there.
Hold on.
>> Yeah. No, I don't see it.
>> What about the other side? Can you see the other side?
>> Same thing.
>> Okay, we'll just leave that be for a second. Okay, >> let's just leave that because that has to happen, right?
>> To hook up the gas.
No, just have to disconnect it again.
And you don't have a shut off right there. So, >> okay, I see what you're saying.
>> So, I should probably I probably should take it back out.
>> Yeah, take it back.
>> Okay. Yo, >> I'll let you down.
>> Y Yo, >> they stand probably when you bolt together >> 516.
>> Yeah.
You didn't hook the rubber line up in the gas tank. Okay. Lots >> of room to do it.
>> Good.
>> Good enough. Good enough.
>> So, what are you doing? You're getting the gas gas tank back out. And the reason being is where I've drilled it and bolt it down, there's a plate there where I put the rear end in for the airbags, and he can't see it. So, we're going to put a riv nut in the hole so we can just screw the bolts into the hole.
So, I'm just going to pull this back out again like a like a good old boy. Pull it back out again.
We'll put a riv nut in the hole hopefully.
And that way there we'll be good. So, this right here is on top of there's a plate there. Airbag. And that bolt is right on top of that plate of the airbag. I'm thinking and you don't know when you drill these holes because I'm not underneath it while I'm on top of it.
>> Make sure the molds aren't too big so these will fit. Right.
>> Well, it's not big enough.
>> Not big enough. That's good. I want to put metric on.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Well, if you got the bolts, >> well, stop.
>> Chad, >> what?
>> Dirty in there.
>> Well, yeah, it's going to get that way for a while. All the tape staying on.
That's good. Just trying to look at the edges here. I noticed the tape come off one edge over here for a little bit, but I didn't see any paint missing. So, that's good.
That's good.
Tail tail lights look really nice on it.
I think you always look really good. I can't wait to put some gas in and see if it starts.
>> Jeez. More exciting than playing bingo.
>> You were playing bingo.
>> Well, I said this is more exciting than me playing bingo.
>> Well, I can win. You win a you win a beer uh if you get four corners and then and then and then what's that?
>> Miss Bingo this week.
>> I did miss bingo this week. I did went to a barbecue instead. Me and my husband and Charlie.
>> And so >> Charlie's mom Sue. She's a big fan of watch.
>> I love Sue. She's a good person.
>> She's a good person. Damn good person.
I know what I'm going to have to do there.
Can't see what's going on there, but it doesn't matter. right in the present moment.
And I just want to take a look at this side.
The nut for my gas pedal took off. He'll probably want to work it out here. Anyways, what I'm thinking is, see this gas pedal here, Emily? Come this way.
>> See the gas pedal? My gas pedal right here.
>> Yeah. See how it's got the slot there like that? I'm probably going to going to take a washer and weld putting welding a washer on there and bring that up through the washer and pull that up a little higher and centered in the hole better I can >> instead of having that open like that and having a nut on it. I'm going to put a washer right there and then bring that through and nut it that way. That's what I'm thinking.
What's this now? You got Oh, okay.
That's a That's a nicer machine than what I got or I think I'm not saying nicer, but a lot easier to put in.
Wow.
>> Those should be the right size.
>> Look, look at this one here. See, just puts it in like a rivet gun.
Beautiful. Mine's got the big handles on it. Eh, >> you ever see that one? The handle handle squeeze together?
>> No, I've uh I've actually got two of these.
>> That's awesome.
going on there.
She's not clamping for you.
She's not squeezing for you, Chris. It's not squeezing for you.
>> I'll grab my other gun. Is it a gun or is it like this thing?
>> No, it's one of these.
>> Okay, I better just put that back where where he had it and that way they'll know where it's at.
>> That's what we're going to do. Yeah. I can't wait to hear it. The exhaust. It's going to sound cool. Guarantee it. It's going to be awesome.
>> Are you nervous?
>> No. No. I'm I'm actually excited. I I want to hear it. It would be nice to hear it.
>> Yeah. Be nice.
It'll be a little step closer.
It'll be a little step closer, that's all. And I'll probably when I go home, I'll probably end up messing with that that throttle. Might I might mess it with here. I'm not sure.
>> Well, it can't be too much longer till it's home anyway.
>> No, there's a few things left, Chris, I want Chris, to do. The brake lines are still uh not run, but you know, Chris has run the shop besides doing this, too. So, like he said, haven't worked on busy.
>> And there was things he was waiting for for those wires.
>> Yes, he's waiting for the relay for that uh fuel for the fuel pump.
>> Oh, >> so now that that relay is here now, we can put gas to it and see if it'll run.
>> Wasn't he changing these out, too?
>> He was. They haven't come yet, but he will be changing those on. I'm thinking >> there's still some stuff.
>> Oh, yeah. There's like it takes time to get that stuff. It just It just didn't come overnight. Takes time.
Takes time.
It's warm.
>> Yeah. Beautiful.
Days like this, you want the you want the air conditioning, that's for sure.
Really show slow down the process of working.
>> My fault.
>> What?
>> I screw the adapter in.
Oh, you didn't have the other pair of the tool.
>> Yeah, >> there we go.
>> Usually I leave it in there. It's >> right on that box, Chris.
>> That'll work.
>> It will work.
Now, you didn't drill that one.
Just like that.
I had rock guard down inside, but it's still tight.
Grab a rubber mallet.
Just anything to make you run. E Chris, I had to grab this thing right here.
You would to grab what hammer?
>> Nothing there to give it whack, but a rubber mallet is the way to go.
>> Obviously, it's a tool.
>> Just like that.
>> Don't like to drill them out like I usually go a little size smaller because they fit so much tighter than Them bolts are hard in the knees, believe me.
Hey Now, you want to see a a grown man get ugly is when we pour gas in it and leaks.
I was going to ask you.
>> I I um I what I did is is I is I lined it with fiberglass resin.
And uh I'm hoping it works.
should >> get it where you want it.
>> Yeah, I'm pretty sure.
>> Good.
>> Yeah, seems pretty good, Chris.
Let's make sure that's got a enough on there. Should be good.
>> Come again.
>> Wire.
>> Good.
>> Nice.
>> Something like that. Just messing with the with the rubber that goes on from the gas cap to the gas tank. I haven't got it clamped yet, but I will.
>> All good.
>> Put the hose on.
>> Should we put some gas in there?
>> Put the hose on.
>> Oh, yeah. Yeah.
>> Right.
>> You'll really find a big leak then.
Yeah.
>> Well, you seem to be all right.
Yep.
Beautiful.
I like those.
I want I want too. Emily, >> can you see it?
>> Yeah.
>> Want me to hold that light?
>> Pass him there. I need a stool though.
>> See right where he's going? Do you >> find it? Yeah. He put his hand on it.
>> I think he might have cut it off the right length anyway.
Did you get a clamp put on that?
>> It's on there.
>> Okay. You got your driver? I get it for you.
>> No, it's too big. Quarter inch. Where's that one at?
>> No, it's a screwdriver.
Quarter inch, right? No.
>> Oh, you got a blade my hand.
>> It's good.
>> You have a zip tie right close, Chris.
If we start that thing up, that air rides on that exhaust pipe. You know what's going to happen?
Pop. Thank you. I don't got to go around that or not.
Let's do this through here.
Do both.
Actually, let's take this one out.
This one hang down and do this one.
Let's figure that lays down the exhaust not that decide to run. I'm not going to have no way to ride.
>> Not going to be running that long.
>> Yeah. Well, I don't want to melt that through either.
>> No cooling in it.
>> There is full. Yeah. Yeah, it's full.
>> It's full.
You got the gas line. How's that look, Chris?
>> It looks good. Yeah. Beautiful.
Beautiful. Well done. Well done.
>> Go down first. I guess take them out.
>> Y that piece that you got the leg didn't come off at all. So we put the filter on it.
What?
>> Far off the timing cover.
>> That's supposed to have a big filter on that. Yes.
>> You don't have it?
>> No, I don't think.
>> Right at the end here where that rag's at. Yeah, it's supposed to be a filter.
That's a cam filter, isn't it? Or >> I'm trying to think there's something >> that does it do anything?
>> Well, on some sort of >> Okay, >> I'm thinking that something tractor. Maybe they have kind of one that has is spring loaded on the inside that might fit down in there. And I think it's got a filter in it.
>> Might just fit in there. I'm not sure.
>> I haven't got anything yet.
>> What about that gas that you want?
>> Yes, I can get probably get something off that >> might dump gas in it now.
>> You start dumping gas on the floor.
>> Oh man.
>> I am. I'm just kind of kind of thinking about that. I haven't got no clamps on that either, but >> you got no clamps.
>> I'll just shove down in there far enough.
>> Pat's probably got that thing inside.
>> Leave it to Pat.
>> Yep.
>> Fool you.
>> Well, he got me cuz I never do it. I lost all mine.
All them inside ones.
>> Yeah. Oh, I haven't got one of them things. I used a plastic bag.
>> So, you put things back and you wouldn't lose them.
>> I know that, Chris.
He's got me there, Bubby. Over and over and over.
You probably don't need very much. Start it.
>> You tell me when.
Yeah. Anything dripping?
>> Want to try that?
>> Yeah.
>> I'm looking underneath.
>> Yeah. Well, we had we got a hose underneath there. Got to be clamped up >> cuz you did it.
You got that one, did you?
>> I didn't see anything be happening right now.
>> Not at all.
>> Cool.
>> Okay, so >> nice.
>> Beautiful.
>> Okay, we That's just a choke for Carburetor taped up. You're obviously going to run the carburetor from outside here, are you? Cuz the gas pedal is not going to run inside.
>> What's that?
>> You're going to run it from out here if it starts.
>> Do I want to take that thing out for now?
>> How many pounds? How many pounds of pressure did you put on those bad boys?
on what >> how many pounds pressure goes on them bad boys >> on the car.
>> Carburetors.
>> Yeah.
>> Leaking.
>> That's why I say like them >> gasket in the bottom.
>> Yeah, bottom gasket's leaking. I'll have to get a gasket on now. I got lots of these carburetors kicked around. I'll grab one.
I don't want to start running out like that.
>> Oh, is that right?
>> Yeah. Okay, let me don't want that bottom.
>> Oh boy, is it ever running out.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Put it back off.
>> I want one. Okay.
Hey, hey, hey.
Just a little bit further, Chris.
Like I said, Yep. Yep. Yep. Lots.
>> Yeah, they may both be >> Yeah. I'm just kind of wondering what kind of pressures on those things cuz >> Yeah, that's just a bowl.
>> Okay.
>> Too much pressure. It' be going It' be pushing the the >> Okay.
the uh valve open.
>> That's just the bowl.
>> They're both are looking, ain't they?
>> Yep.
>> Looking like a sie.
>> Little bit.
>> A little bit. It's hard to What can I say? Sometimes like the carburetors need different amounts of pressure. Like I know the carburetors on that old Cadillac.
>> That's just a three lb pump I believe.
It's just a diesel push pump.
I just use ones on the snowmobiles.
>> Okay, >> I'll get out of Emily's way. You want to get in there and take a look? See what he's doing?
>> You don't need to see my fat head.
She running there good now.
Suppose it pumped them full, isn't it?
It's just an O-ring. I can put a new O-ring on that.
>> Is that what's making that leak?
>> Yeah.
They're a little different than the strong bers that we used on the B. It's just no ring around there.
>> And you think that's what's leaking or you know it?
>> I know.
>> Okay. Good. Cool.
>> That's good. Easy fix.
>> Well, he knows.
>> Good.
It's nice to, you know, if I had it at my shop and I took it off, I would not have a oil ring, a ring to put on it, a seal to put on it. Like he said, he's got carburetors here for that.
Good time to come over and clean this thing. Look how dirty that thing is. How clean that thing is, Emily. Eat off that.
>> Oh, boy.
>> Off this bottom of this car. It's that clean. Look how dirty it is. Right.
Yeah, I'll just wait.
Get her back. Doesn't smell like gas.
Not >> as bad as differential fluid.
>> No, I don't like the differential fluid either.
>> Worse.
>> It smells like dogs out or worse than that.
>> I go in the house after working on the diff. I can't stand being near me.
Try not to work on them that much then, do you?
>> That's what she says.
This is your rental.
>> I don't care how much automatic trans rear end is rear end fluid is the is the worst by far for me anyways.
May as well. What? Wipe it off.
Speck and span out all the way.
That's going to run cover.
>> Nope.
>> Did you ch?
>> No, >> I don't mind a little bit of fuel on me.
a little bit.
>> I just clean her up under here. Wow.
>> Double up.
>> Okay. Well, now we know. I'm glad you took over.
>> Just cleaning.
>> Oh, just wiping her down, right? Getting ready for the big show.
Put her up in the ditch upside down. Now you can see what she looks like. See, she's playing.
Hopefully that big enough seals.
Looks pretty good, you know. Looks pretty good. Looks pretty decent.
Everything looks pretty decent.
Really decent.
Some tape left on it.
Huh. Whole distance.
All good, >> I guess.
Emily, have you washed your new car yet?
>> No. No, I came through one car wash.
>> Okay.
>> Once.
>> No, no, no, no. You wash it. Have you ever washed it?
>> In the city, we have this car wash that has like disco lights and music that plays in it. It's called Jack's car spot.
>> Okay.
>> So, that's where you go.
>> What'd you buy for a new car?
>> I have a Ford Explorer ST, but it's not brand new. It's 2023.
new to me for the last few months.
>> See what happens this time when you Well, you got that turned on now. So, it's pumping fuel.
>> Yep.
>> Yeah. Good fix, Chris.
>> Well, stand in front of it. I >> I just want to the pump turn off real quick sign there.
We're in park, aren't we? Yeah, we're in park.
>> You need a new cable for this, too.
>> Yeah. Yes.
>> I'm hoping you'll find me something.
Couple clips here, too. I had all that on the list there one time.
>> I know.
Grab her over.
Oh, that thing sounds good.
Oh, I got the goosebump.
A goosebump, isn't it?
>> 50 lb almost 50 lb of oil pressure.
That's the oil pressure. Beautiful.
That thing sounds good. I like it.
Oh, aren't I going to scorch the tires up the road on this?
Oh, okay. That's going to get the fan.
What are you checking? Pressure.
>> Yeah. Take a little bit of transmission.
>> Okay.
>> Okay.
Awesome.
>> What's that?
>> See right up there.
Whoa.
>> Oh, wait. That thing going to be loud.
>> Woo.
>> Want me to shut her down?
>> Yeah.
>> Awesome. Awesome. That thing sounds awesome. I can't wait to mash that gas pedal. Awesome. Sounds really good.
Yeah. Next thing you know, we hear the fire department come turn this car upside down. It's in the ditch.
>> This is a little link I made for your uh >> Okay, awesome. I see it. Right on. Does that >> I've already had Don adjust it and everything. I just took it off, painted up.
>> Does it hook to that top can?
>> Yep.
>> And it works and everything.
>> And I just took a couple of uh brake pins for a boggle.
>> I just cut them off and I'll put some air clips in.
>> Okay, perfect.
>> Together, >> tighten them up.
>> A little different what I got. I got to >> I took the rivets out.
>> All right, everybody. Thanks a lot for coming back. I really appreciate it.
Chris, you made me the happiest man ever today.
>> Great.
>> Huh?
>> Perfect. Thank you very much for coming back. I really appreciate it. This thing sounds awesome.
>> Guess you owe me dinner now.
>> I will. Any anytime you want to.
Anyways, have a good day. Come back and like, share, comment. Thank Me for doing a great job. Appreciate everybody.
Cheers. See you tomorrow.
Thank you.
